Seriously, the people in this town are AWESOME! Friendliest town in the state. I find any excuse I can to go up there (which isn't hard to do). The staff at this store is especially friendly and helpful. Catch them when they aren't busy, and they'll talk to you like you've known each other for years. Actually, every local that I've encountered up there over the years is like this. Even the kids are friendly and respectful - a rarity in this state, let alone country.

I came into town more than a week ago to visit my cousin Don Russell, who owns and runs the mountain messenger newspaper. I love this grocery store in Downieville, because they have everything you need. Not a huge store but it's also not a huge town, it's a small yet beautiful old goldmining town from the 1800s that is not a massive population but an incredibly great population of people. Friendly, friendly, friendly! And I have to say for a mountain town like downeyville this grocery store had some incredibly great craft beer selections, with varieties of craft beers I have dreamed about trying while reading about them in my home state of Michigan. Looking forward to our return trip to Downieville but if you're in this little town check out the grocery store and you will dig it as much as we did, maybe even more.

Hey it's literally the only store in town but then everything there is here is the only one. The bar. The hairdresser. The hardware store. Come open a business. Odds are you'll have zero competition.
