parking is atrocious. the hot food offering is high carb junk. they do have a very creative bakery with some beautiful looking desserts. self checkout computers are morons. it will pop up stupid crap that makes you respond and then complain that you haven't put in your card yet. idiot. The bottom scanner doesn't work self checkout so you have to hold your food items at an awkward angle to scan from the back scanner. why doesn't the bottom scanner work? Don't they fix stuff like that when it goes out? given that there's three acres of parking, there's no reason why the spaces should be so jam-packed. The spaces are too small damn it. there are no condiments anywhere in sight. Even when you get dipping items at the hot menu, there are no condiments to go with them like ketchup, ranch, etc. I've been in gas station mini-marts with better quality hot food and service than this. I do not recommend this Safeway.

What is going on with this store? Seems for the last three years the management has been horrendous with customer service. They cannot decide what hours they offer their services and when they are available to speak to you they have no answers just the repeated "That is all the information I have." Also check out the "5 star"reviews which seem to be some of the most paid for bots I have seen in awhile

I tried to do the digital clip coupons with the photo of barcodes. It worked on two of seven items and I finally gave up, very disappointed in the lack of Wi-Fi or network connection of the store. Several other customers told me they had the same problem.

I love this location. I haven't lived in Chico long. Everyone is so friendly. Tatum in the deli is amazing and makes the best food. Maria who stocks the shelves is helpful and friendly. I could go on and on. I'm moving again, and I will miss this store.

The selection is okay as far as I know there are three safeways in Chico one on Nord Avenue one on Mangrove and one on East Street Nord has the smallest selection mangroves has a medium selection and the Safeway on East Street seems to have a full selection of groceries

Very well stocked store but man it’s getting expensive. I started going to Winco and it’s almost half the price. I do like the discount I get on the gas with my reward points. But not sure if it’s worth it anymore. I only buy a few things here now that Winco doesn’t carry.

Once they address the issues with panhandling and loitering, this will be a terrific store. The prices aren't terrific, but they're not completely horrifying either. Good selection of most everything. Nice bakery, except for the roaches. They might want to address that, as I advised the manager, who blew me off. See the picture? Anyway that's the big one that made me quit going there.

This Safeway has fresher produce than any other Safeway in town. I don’t get spoiled milk at this location. This Safeway location off Mangrove is the best one in Chico because they have better quality control. The staff are trained properly. They are courteous. Store is clean.

In my experience, always helpful and friendly staff. Reasonable prices and usually good produce. I shop here weekly at least and they have always treated my family and i very well. Also, gas station is conveniently set up and staff there is very friendly and helpful as well. The staff at the gas station are always cleaning and working hard at this location yet still provide excellent service.

Clean place. BAKERY has lots of delicious looking cake options. The only thing I'd probably rate down is that sometimes their cashiers look like they don't want to be there. Can't blame them, my job is hard too. Otherwise, my go to Safeway in Chico, when I'm in Chico.

Safeway is out of my way, but I go there when I need certain items that my local grocery store doesn't carry. I can find more varieties of whole coffee beans at reasonable prices, dried fruit and individual containers of delicious desserts, as well as a variety of single bagels.The employees are friendly and helpful. The East Ave store also has a wide variety of potted plants, as well as cut flowers.In these times of expensive gas, it's nice to have shopping for items that I would normally buy contribute to discounts at the pump.

Love this store, sadly it's becoming increasingly more expensive to shop here or anywhere really, so every dime has to count. But most of the employees here are awesome, both helpful & friendly. I've never had issues shopping here.

The Safeway I go to a lot and is open till 2am. Great for our Neighborhoos. So very clean with top-notch security. They have rules about parking lot security that include not to apprehend.It's a little sketchy after 11 pm till closing. The best rule they could post and enforce is "No one may approach anyone on the lot to solicit anything, security will be called."It needs to be done and more families with children will come.

I'm only giving it 4 stars because it's the only grocery in town close-ish to me. Prices are high enough to knock the wind outta me. Steaks are mainly choice--lowest grade, but three times higher than Raleys Angus steaks. I eat little to no meat anymore, this helped for sure. Produce and product variety even hair supply's are really good. Nice checkers and nicer managers,but bag your own groceries . Not good. !

Meh. Okay to shop at as they have wide selection. But of the three stores in town, I think two are old dingy ones which makes shopping there have a sort of depressing effect.UPDATE: I thought about this a little more after I received a reply, that they would pass along my inputs. Overall, the store is not really terrible; I think what gets me is the checkout process. There are a number of checkout lanes, but they are almost completely obscured by tall racks of checkout line junk-merchandise that obscures each of the lanes. These stick far out into the crossing aisleway making the whole process feel congested. If you ever go when there's a big crowd like pre-Thanksgiving or Christmas it's almost total gridlock, as insufficient aisleway to navigate across the checkout lanes. It's a severe pinch point.I think they could relatively easily improve this situation, by moving back the main merchandise shelves coming forward from the rear of the store by 4 to 6 ft. and reducing both the size and height of those junk-merchandise kiosks at the end of each checkout aisle and open the whole thing up to make it look more friendly and less like a toll booth. Compare this to the checkout area at WinCo which can hold a lot of Shoppers waiting to check out and not feel congested. I bet this would also improve the attitudes of the cashiers, as one person mentioned they didn't look very happy to work there. If you look at their situation they're almost like a rat in a cage in their little check out area. Kind of walled-in.

No different than any other grocery store chain and I really don’t like grocery shopping; however, I want to give props to Safeway for, what I think are, their underestimated hot and fresh chicken pot pies. I’m impressed! Yum!😋

I hate to be "that guy," but I feel like I need to publicly speak up and say something. There was a Checker there the other day named "Ashlee" that was wearing clothing that is completely inappropriate for a work setting, specifically, her shirt with a bare midriff exposing belly button body jewelry. I have no problem with that attire in the appropriate setting, but at a place of business, especially a grocery store, I feel like that was really inappropriate and unprofessional, even in the event it was a "casual" day. That store seems like it has gone way down hill since Cal left and subsequently passed away.
