What wonderful people and staff!. When my co-pilot and best friend Flash died on a Sunday afternoon they were there at my time of need. They were there for me when the Butte humane society dropped the ball. I was able to bring my loving friend to them so they could handle the cremation for me. I was only charged $128 which was a blessing during my time of grief and The cremation was handled beautifully and I have a beautiful box with a place for a photograph of him on the front thank you so much. Now I have also applied to be a foster parent. And I quickly became an adoptive parent with my first foster child. This is the beautiful Sequoia my new friend and canyon hiking buddy. We bonded quickly and becoming the best of friends. She's wonderful about people and other dogs. She's enjoying her new life outside of the shelter enjoying our daily hikes into the canyon. Interacting with residents of my apartment complex. Writing in our little red sports car with the top down and bringing smiles to everybody that sees her.

I took my old boy, my best friend for his final day. He couldn't walk at the end and they helped carry him in. The price of the procedure was fair and the staff were so kind. I miss him but he was hurting every day, now he's not. I'll go back and adopt from them.

Did a walk thru...so nice to see how clean, and the fact that they take to socialize the animal individually. Also initiate some training to respond to commands with treat rewards for appropriate responses.

We found a cat with wounds wandering the street. We're from out of town so didn't know what to do. They took the kitty at the last moment before closing and they were very friendly.

I volunteer at the shelter. The staff there are awesome! They are passionate about the animals in their care. They celebrate when each animal is adopted. They do so much with limited resources.Spay and neuter your pets. Adopt from a shelter, rather than purchase from someone. Consider older animals. You may find the perfect pet at Chico Animal Shelter!

Today I rescued a dog that was running around the East Ave offramp. I called animal control and they were there within 10 minutes! This friendly pup has been an escape artist and animal control knew exactly who he belonged to!About 10 minutes later the lady from animal control phoned me to follow up and let me know that she had reunited the dog with his family. ❤️Awesome job, thank you!!

I’m looking to adopt a medium size dog. Possible two since I have a very large green area fenced with two dog houses build in. My old black lab is gone. However reading high percentage of negatives reviews I decide not to pick this shelter.I hope their treatment for the pets ad well as their customer’s approach and understanding improves soon.

I adopted both of my dogs from this facility. The staff was informative and sought to ensure that the dogs were well placed, that they would get along with each other. It is, in my experience, one of the better run services in this city. The staff clearly care deeply for the animals. I hope the city has the sense to see that this is one of the things Chico is getting right.

Nice little shelter. It is a no kill shelter as well so that is a huge bonus. They help find lost dogs owners, rehome strays etc. They also spay/neuter animals and have discount prices for things like rabies shots. Nice staff that is very helpful. Only complaint is that they lack the funding and the building could use some heat for the animals this time of year (Late November).

Woman with graying blonde hair would not accept a very sick kitten. She accused my friend of trying to surrender the cat and threatened to call the police. What is this establishment even meant for if they won’t take stray animals that need help?

My husband and I had to come to the hard decision of having to surrender our beautiful, healthy, loving, kind dog. Her name was Khloe. Please understand this wasn't a easy decision for us but at this point we didn't have any other options. When we dropped her off the girls in the office seemed nice and it made it easier. But when you surrender your pet they ask you for some reason they aren't adoptable can they call you and we said yes.. Now I had to let a couple of weeks go by and we noticed that she hadn't gone on the adoption page yet we kept checking so I called to check in on her just see if she was doing okay.. They bounced me back and forth to I finally got some answers. They had our dog for 5 days and they said she became sick in 1 day and died the same day.. My baby was healthy never had a problem with her health. They never even informed us and I know I surrender her but she was a special dog.. they had get 5 days and this happened.. When we had to make the hard Decision of giving her up we thought this was the right way but now I wished I wouldn't have..

I think it's very hard to get stars to a type of business of this caliber because of the type of business that this is but from my brief experience there the staff was very nice, not the animal control Lady. Besides that there were very helpful I just hope that What ever happens in the background is that They really take care of the dogs and And other animals on the facility Grounds.Does we all gotta come to that this place is just a jail a temporary short shelter for animals until they get adopted. If they're not adopted in a certain period of time then they're all laid to rest so please take the time visit this establishment and others to I was minutes in adopt an animal that's losing time and save its life

Since the city has taken over the shelter, they have made a ton of improvements. Having done a small internship here, it always baffles me when people say they can't stand to surrender animals here. They are no kill, have a good budget for medical care and the staff is awesome!

Love the Chico Animal Shelter! Never have I met a more kind and caring staff. Since the City took the reins the euthanasia rate has plummeted and the shelter is run more cleanly and efficiently. Love it.

Super proud to live in a community that supports its Chico Animal Shelter. The decision for the city to take over shelter operations from Butte Humane Society six years was a good one. The place runs so professionally now with great attention to the animals, cleanliness and organization, and the citizens of Chico - their customers - who care about our city's sheltering obligations. And it's all because the staff there has been there since the beginning (how does an animal organization maintain such great morale and low turnover - I wish I had that recipe!) and is skilled and compassionate. Keep it up City of Chico! Keep supporting our Chico Animal Shelter!

I have Volunteered and Fostered animals for YEARS, and understand the shelter environment well, and Chico Animal Shelter does the absolute BEST for the animals in their care! Staff truly care about the animals that have unfortunately found themselves in this stressful situation, all through no fault of their own, and do their very best to lessen their anxiety. Even though they have no excessive staff to market & ask for donations (like other 501C's), they take the time to meet the needs of the animals with a limited amount of staff. I would recommend CAS over others in this community, HANDS DOWN!!

It’s great to live in a town where I can tell people, without hesitation, that the animal shelter is a safe place to take a found pet, or even, it it comes down to it, to surrender a pet. I have taken many found dogs to the shelter over the last few years and love finding out how their stories resolve. The Chico Animal Shelter is committed to giving every animal that comes through its doors a fighting chance at a good life. They even take sick and injured animals and fundraise to provide for medical care instead of euthanasia. It does my heart good to see the commitment of the shelter staff and volunteers to the animals and their people.

Our older pit mix and our chiweenie got out through an unlatched gate, left that way by a worker. They were found a couple of blocks away and picked up. They chipped and vaccinated them and charged a reasonable price for their service. Two put of the three people were friendly and nice, while the third seemed judgemental and said that they would be there for euthenasia for our older one! How rude and inconsiderate.

I volunteered at this shelter, and I'm impressed by the amount of care provided by the staff, volunteers and community service workers. I encourage everyone who cares about animals to volunteer some free time.

Got my Boxer/lab Darby from the shelter. Was so cute. He was sitting with his paw over the top of his cage with the look please take me home with you. He was the sweetest dog! I used to walk Darby and we'd dance on the deck. I fed him everything l ate. So regret that bcuz it gave my baby pacreites. Miss Darby so much! He's been gone 10 years but still think of my baby boy!

Chico Animal Shelter has dramatically improved the housing situation of the animals in its care since 2012, and has increased the percentage of animals successfully returning home well above national norms. Chico is fortunate to have such a caring and committed team looking out for its animal population!

All employees work very hard and have the animals welfare at heart. The City of Chico needs to let them hire more staff. They are very short handed. More people volunteer at the humane society and I shelter could really use more help.

Wow I don't even know what to say I called in to the sad unfortunate need for putting down my elderly friend. When I went into my scheduled appointment I was informed that there is no vet on site that they can't make a decision that will euthanize with me there and we need to have my dog stay without me before he can be laid to rest.Basically you asked me to leave my best friend in the care of people who don't know him and allow him the mental torture because you are so incompetent that you don't have an insight vet and a convoluted policy. You are knowingly torturing people in an already ainfull process. That's just evil absolutely evil bureaucracy

Very Disappointed in the Butte Humane Society. I Have a tenant who likes to keep and feed feral cats. He allows them to breed, and then allows the kittens to run all over the property and mine. A lot of these kittens turn into cats or die before they can due to disease, attacks, cars, etc. One of the kittens wandered into my yard without any sighting of the mom. I took the kitten to Butte Human Society thinking it was very adoptable, although a little young. They said it was about 5 weeks old. I would have kept it myself but have two cats already. They instructed me to take it back to my tenant and let him take care of the problem since it was better to be with its mom, and the mom may still be around. They gave me a few numbers to give to him, although I said to them several times he does not call these numbers because I have discussed this option with him before. I am never using them again for anything. I don't think they are interested in saving saving kittens anymore. As a landlord who is trying to help the problem by saving the animals, I have zero options to save these kittens since I am not the one allowing them to breed irresponsibly. And there were six workers there to make sure I understood surrounding me and my children like we were stray animals ourselves. Very Hostile!

I have nothing but respect for people that donate their time and money and efforts to take care of animals that had been neglected, abandoned or just people that did not realize what it would take to have a pet. This center has been nothing but helpful in many aspects that I have had with pets over my time in Chico. I dont understand how people can leave bad reviews for a place that takes care of the pets that you do not want. Take the time to volunteer and help so you can get an idea of what it is to run a facility of this size.

Caring, compassionate people who truly care about animals. Chico Animal Shelter has been the critical component in decreasing euthanisia numbers exponentially within Chico. These folks are willing to give scared animals and those who may be sick or injured a chance to heal and learn to trust people, they take the time and make the effort help the animals. Chico Animal Shelter is making a difference in our community.

Staff and volunteers are the best. They really care about the animals. Wish more people would adopt and give the animals loving homes.
