Really nice spot!! HUGE portion sizes. I would share a main next time. Carrot cake was delish. Fish was super fresh. Didn’t love the garlic bread - it tasted sour.Vegetarian options: None, all fish

We Always use to go to this Phil’s Fish Market and Eatery, a few times a year but our last visit as of April 19, 2024, we were actually quite disappointed with our visit. We loves Phil’s much better when it was located in Moss Landing. Not only location was a lot better, our food, services, and our welcoming warm atmospheres were much more pleasant then this new location in Castroville. The Famous Seafood Ciopino was something I always ordered every time we stopped by Phil’s.Clam Chowder was exceptionally ok, Halibut Fish n Chip were dry not really worth 30 bucks either. I hope they make some changes soon or we won’t be coming back here anymore.🙏

We were looking for a Fish and Chips restaurant and didn't feel like going to Monterey. We decided to visit Phil's Fish Mkt and discovered a quaint and inviting restaurant. The workers were quick to hapily greet us and helped us with our orders. We settled on Fish and Chips, plus Clam Linguini. The wait was not long. The Fish and Chips were good. An order came with five pieces of Cod. The ClamWin Linguini came with what seemed like an endless amount of Clams. It was delicious. My wife had contemplated ordering the Ciopino, but the price seemed a bit high. But the price was justified, after we watched someone get served with a large serving at a table nearby. This will definitely be on our radar on a future visit.

Delicious seafood. The food has remained just as fresh as before the move to the new location. But we still miss it being by the ocean.Parking: Parking available inside and on the street.Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly menu.

We used to often visit this restaurant, when it was located at the previous location, while driving to Carmel. This was our first time visiting the new location and what a disappointment it was. This is when you notice the lack of passion in a business. When the owner is purely interested in, putting some stained old, dirty tables and chairs and open the doors to his patrons. This location was devoid of the fresh fish showcase (like its previous location) which made customers enthusiastic about this restaurant. One felt that the seafood they were eating was just as fresh as what was showcased. Although the old place was not fancy, it still looked much more appealing and had better service than this location. Extremely disappointed in what we experienced.

Well, my friend kidnapped me after a long day of work.. she brought me to this place and OH MAN!! I had the Calamari appetizer and it was better than good. It had its own fresh unique taste... you gotta try it.. that's of you like Calamari.. my friend had the Fish (Cod) and chips.. she loved it. She took half of it home because it was a bit on the larger sized portion.. afterwards, I was returned to my car safely. I'll be going back again soon. The cashier/ waiter knew his dishes.. I'll go with what he advises next time.Parking: It's kinda tucked in the back.. there's plenty of parking..

I ordered the crab cakes, fried, I have had them before although this trip they were extremely oily and salty. Even recalling this dining experience makes me light headed. Other dishes are certainly delicious, but I don't recommend getting the crab cakes. Just like the original location in Moss Landing, they have plenty of space to dine, probably triple the amount of space including the outdoor part.

Best to come before 12pm. Line goes out the door and winds around the parking lot at lunchtime. I wouldn't wait in a line this long for any food. Our party of 4 arrived at 11:30. This was my first time here. First thing to do is pick up a menu to decide what you want to order. Next, walk up to the cashier to order, pay, and get a number. Seat yourself and wait.Food arrived quickly, but we did have to wait 5 minutes for condiments, like ketchup for the fries. The shrimp salad was okay, not remarkable. I asked for their oil and vinegar dressing and it was white. Milk? Mayo? Husband and friend shared the lobster sandwich for two. Looked good and they liked it. Other friend ordered fish and chips and that looked the best. Added clam chowder and an artichoke appetizer. They were good as well. They have an amazing assortment of cheesecakes, but we were too full to try any. Also noticed a table with donuts.Loved that you can walk out to the beach from the restaurant. Very calming and beautiful.Would I come back? Yes, but not after 12. Very casual place.

Came in on a Saturday afternoon. Be prepared to wait, as it can get extremely busy especially on the weekends. The seafood is extremely fresh and always great whenever we go. However, it is extremely crowded and difficult to find a table. The fish and chips were delicious, and the food is consistently good. I have gone here multiple times, and will continue to come back! The new location also has a food truck outside in case you don’t want to order inside.

New location, still great food (and better parking). There is a good reason why tourists worldwide flock to Phil’s: high quality, fresh seafood, extensive menu, reasonable prices, and an unpretentious beach restaurant. Locals also enjoy oysters and drinks at the bar. The clam chowder, grilled scallops, and shrimp cocktail are all delicious but Phil’s signature dish is cioppino. The pasta dishes are also wonderful, but don’t fill up on pasta if you have never tried the cioppino. A must appetizer is the fire roasted artichokes. Absolutely delicious. If you have a room for dessert try the fresh strawberries with cream. Phil's is not just a restaurant, fresh fish, crabs and oysters are sold. Prepared Cioppino is also sold frozen in buckets to take home and reheat. Don’t worry if the line to order food is long - it moves and is well worth the wait.

I really like the new indoor location in Castroville. However, I miss them having bar seating. The bar at the old location was very fun and lively with people sitting at it. I also love their mini chowder in a bun. It is a better size for a bread bowl as usually no one finishes a regular sized chowder in a bread bowl. The mini size is perfect for adults and kids.Vegetarian options: Their fire roasted artichoke is amazing!

The place is closer now, and from Salinas you can play two songs on the radio, and be there. The building is totally remodeled inside, and out. The only downfall is the parking. The best place to park is across the street were the bank is. There's cameras all around so you don't have to worry about getting your stuff messed with. The fish and other seafood is really fresh every day and caught just miles away. You get treated nice, and fast service.

Meh. We went to Phil’s over a decade ago in Moss Landing and all I have are good memories of great cioppino so we looked forward to coming back today. Mistake. First, the bar man wasn’t around to take our order and took time to get there. Sorry, Phil, you lost a beer sale. Then they asked for tips for the “servers” who plop food on your table-by that logic I should tip the staff at Carl’s Jr. But the food was not up to snuff. The clam chowder lacked flavor, which was masked by the gravy like texture of the soup. Sure, I don’t mind thickening the soup but this was overly thickened and under-clammed. It was missing a ton of flavor and texture. My scampi tasted fine and the bread served with it was fine. My wife’s cod and chips was bland. Fish wasn’t seasoned. Batter wasn’t seasoned. I tried a bite and it was almost flavorless. She kept salting and applying malt vinegar to get it to taste. Just to get some flavor. The fries were cooked at too low of a temperature as we could taste the oil. They weren’t greasy but there was too much oil taste and not enough potato or salt taste. Her cole slaw was also flavorless. No seasoning. No cabbage flavor. No tartness from any vinegar. Just blah cabbage and not even a mayonnaise flavor to the dressing. Iced tea was okay. The whole meal was unremarkable and we’d be embarrassed to serve it to friends and family. We spent around $85 for two people for bland food.Dietary restrictions: They claim they have many gluten free options.Parking: Good parking in a fenced lot plus free street parking.

Let me tell you something. I like Swordfish. Like a lot. If I had to choose a specialty spirit animal I like to eat, it'd have to be a swordfish. I have had quite a few swordfish steaks in my life, and I gotta give it to Phil's. They know how to deliver! The steak was perfectly prepared, grilled like a spy under millitary investigation, and thicker than 3 day old clam chowder. It was joined by some crispy, freshly made french fries and salad cut from the finest of the greenery eats that Castroville has to offer. Last but not least was the strawberry on top! It was sweeter than an orphan being adopted by a loving family and ending up becoming a billionaire charity founder. It was absolutely delicious, and I can't wait to come back and try it again!

We miss the old Phil's at Moss Landing though the taste at the new place is more or less the same. Maybe, the owners intended to keep the old elements and thus, didn't make much change. I'd said, a relocation rather than a revitalization. Entrance is still from the back for example, many tried to enter from the front (of the street). The world map is gone, with pins pinned by customers from around the world. The fresh market is not longer there. Having said that, it is good to have Phil's Fish Market & Eatery - Cioppino, always the best choice!

Amazing! A huge amount of mussels and great soup in their full order of steamed mussels ($30). And the blue point and Pacific oysters were fresh and delicious ~$4 each.I'll never go to Sea Harvest (yesterday's place) again...see my review...I overstated their rating based on this experience. This place used to be at Moss Landing but is in Castroville now. THIS IS THE PLACE FOR SEAFOOD.The staff were great.

Lengthy lines that move relatively fast. We got there ~2pm on a Sunday and had to wait 20 minutes to get to the front of the line to order food. Once you order food, you should easily be able to find a place to sit and wait for the food to arrive. We tried the lobster roll (which was only sold as a double portion but served in 2 individual plates?), Halibut fish and chips (deliciousss) and the cioppino. All were good and definitely fresh, but not memorable enough to make this a must-stop. I may visit again but won't go out of my way to eat here.

Update Update, the honeymoon is over. Third visit, went from 5 stars to 3 depending on what you order. The fish and chips are OK but overpriced. The British food truck at Seacliff State beach makes them better and at almost half the price. The large salad is subpar and they up charge for extra dressing! I still love the cioppino. I think it comes down to this, order anything in a broth and you will be happy but you will still be paying too much. Half the staff are nice and half are pretty miserable. The parking is atrocious.Update, first visit to the new location.Location is kind of meh. Cool building but wayyyy smaller than the old location. Signs everywhere saying they are not responsible when your car gets broken into. Food is still exceptional, staff still great.Original review,Wow Wow Wow! " Best meal I ever had!" Said my son who is an eating machine with an incredible palate. The Cioppino is an experience not to be missed. Easily enough for 3-4 people. Pro-tip, buy a loaf of their chewy sourdough French bread up front to sop up every last drop of the sauce/soup/stew. The fried smelt was also great but someone cut off all their heads?Looking around at other people's orders I don't think you could make a bad choice here. Everything looks incredible. We came at opening, 10am. The workers were eating before the rush, always a good sign. You can also buy fresh seafood to cook at home, smoked fish and they had incredible looking deserts but for my money it's all about that Cioppino.Multiple seating options, if it's windy or cool you can sit inside but if it's nice you can eat practically right on the beach. Can't wait to come back.
