It's kitten season and there were at least 8 new kittens up for adoption at this location. Besides that. I have a cat and Petco is where I go for all of my kitty needs...the best cat litter, tons of cat food and cat toys, harnesses, etc. They also have an extensive supply of dog care and grooming items, along with other live pets to buy, like birds, chinchillas, mice and fish. UPDATE - same review, plus they now carry a Snoop Dogg line and Raiders gear for your dog. Too cute.

I took my high energy dog to this location to get his shots. He is a lot to handle and the team here was very friendly, patient and accommodating. I appreciate them for making me and my dog feel welcome and taken care of.

I placed an online order. Got an email that said it was ready. I arrived 1 hour before closing. There was a note on the window . Closed. My much needed supplies already paid for unable to be picked up. That’s not good service. Pets have to eat. I shelled out $80.00 so I didn’t want to have to shop elsewhere because they probably would give me grief to get a refund.

I love Petco. They always have what I need, and many times what I don't need. You know toys or fun stuff. Great place I definitely recommend.

I had a store person help me with my flea med purchase, where the lowest price to deflea my cat was $44. The website said that very store had advantageII for $15. Girl gave me an attitude, but then went to the "back" and lo and behold there it was. What a scam. Buyer beware and shop around.

I brought my two dogs to get their boosters and my puppy(2 months) was really easy to get her vaccinations done but when it was my 3 yr old dog’s turn. That’s when i felt regret coming here. He was already nervous to begin with and they wanted to take the appointment in the main lobby instead of a private room. My dog was trying to break free because 3 people were trying to hold him down so they could take his blood for his heart worm medication. However my dog was not having it and one of the assistants thought if we put a muzzle on him it would probably work but i left instead because my poor baby was already so stressed out. It was a little odd that they take appointments in the main waiting area with a table out instead of giving the dog some privacy. I think I’m going to go back to my original vet office & won’t be coming back. I felt so bad for even bringing my dog there. As soon as i brought him back to the car he threw up. They said it could be a reaction to the dewormer but i think my dog had reached his limit with them.The staff was nice but the entire scene just looked unprofessional when i arrived and i should’ve seen that first red flag. They didn’t take my dogs temperature or anything they just put unable to examine for most of the things you would get done during a check up. I know better now and from now on I’ll bring him to real professional veterinarians.

Everyone in the Castro Valley store were. Super nice and friendly since the moment we entered to the moment we left. We went to find a dog carrier for our furbaby and they guided us to the section and showed us alm the options. Great customer service, Thank you!

The store has a good variety of products for all animals and they also have a lot of live animals available. The staff is also very friendly and helpful. I'm giving a 4 star rating because the fish are kept in bad conditions, but the rest of the animals are kept in good condition.

Haley, Aubrey and the rest of their team were so nice and helpful. They were incredibly patient with my refund when I realized I didn’t have the order confirmation number, but it was their fun personalities that really made shopping for my new fish much more enjoyable and informative for me.

I went into the Petco in Castro Valley yesterday and asked an employee could I see the King Snake they have for sale.There was a young white male with glasses and tattoos who said,” I am sorry, you can’t touch or handle the King Snake you might run out of the store with the animal without paying and it’s against our rules.”I explained to the male employee that I work for the Fire Department, showed him my wallet badge and Department ID and proceeded to tell him that doing something such as that could get me fired. He replied, “Nothing I can do about it, sorry!”A young white girl with glasses and platinum blonde hair and tattoosme over to the snakes cage and attempted to pick up the snake, as usual he urinated in her hand, she stated, “ Sorry he doesn’t want to be handled now, I have to go and wash my hands.” She walked away without telling me anything else.I got the feeling that because I was a Black man, they thought I was going to steal the animal by the way the employees interacted with me, this isn’t my first rodeo experiencing this type of behavior. Both employees were exhibiting terrible customer service. Since when can a store deny you petting or holding an animal before buying it or looking for any type of injuries.It’s a shame that in 2023 that a person of color still gets treated sub standard just for trying to buy a King Snake. I will never shop there again! 👎👎👎👎

They were super nice. I came in and asked if they had it and life was crazy simple after that. Amanda said they had it and Katherine took me to it. Check out took me less than 30 seconds. Parking lot was beautiful by the way.

My mother and I was going to buy parakeets here. They make you sign an adoption paper for each parakeet we were going to buy which would have been three. The lady refused to get the animals out of the cage until we did the adoption papers per animal. The lady was really rude and said sarcastically, "you know they don't like small cages right" as if we do not know how to take care of these birds? I remember in high school my dad saying that the reptiles and amphibians are not treated right at the Petco store and it's not specifically this location but every time I go to a Petco I look at the reptiles and amphibians and they're never treated correctly at any location. The employees at this location are really rude and a bit sarcastic. My dad now has his herpetology degree and I agree with him about what he said about how the animals are not treated humanely. They are treated with the least amount of care possible and it's not the customers fault. The lady employee said, "we have to fill out the adoption papers before we get the birds because people have gone out of the store with the birds before paying for them". Now how is that our fault when the employee should have been the one paying attention to where the birds are in the store with the customer. Never go to this location because the employees are sarcastically rude and have to abide by ridiculous rules and policies by the company. By the way they're uneducated about their pets and the employees seem to be not as smart as you think they should be about their pets that they sell. If I could 0 stars then I would.
