Stayed outside the gate as it was closed for winter. CG is not largely developed, but right on the river and beautiful views, needs some maintenance. Bridge over river is a work of CCC art. Super fun history and definitely worth returning to. Nicely positioned a ways from I5, but convenient.

It would be such a lovely camp site if it weren't for the trains running all night. Another review said they didn't run that much but it's not true. Seriously, they went by at 11pm, three trains at 1am, another at 3am, two at 5am and another at 8am. And the rumbling wouldn't be so bad but it's the sounding of the alarm several times as they pass. Worst night of sleep ever. Road noise wasn't bad despite being only a mile off the road (to note, we were staying in a camper van with good insulation). . Otherwise, it's so lovely with the sounds of the river. Spaces are large and with good separation for privacy. Flush toilets plus a sink. Great spot for fishermen. Only one picnic table is available for non-campers if you wanted to come for the day and avoid the night trains. We were there on a Saturday night in October. Able to drive in later in the day and still get a spot.Restrooms: Flush toilets, plus a sink

Nice campground, lots of shades, flush toilets and water spigots. Next to river and a historic walking trail. Be aware of opportunistic bandits!!! We got our chair stolen while I was inside my camper.

Only $15, amazing sites and although the train is near it really didn't pass through too much. Restrooms were clean and nice trails to walk to. The river is great for swimming, several places to enter into and great views of mt shasta. Will plan my next trip there.

"When I was invited to camp with Law School Boys Camp for a night, I knew about their love for fishing and a deep friendship I recognized in my girls’ trips with Sarah and Leona, when months away can feel like minutes.Taking turns with making dinner and contributing to clean-up, these guys had a system that produced a restaurant sized meal.Grilled veggies, fire roasted cabbage, spaghetti and meatballs.Dining al fresco with friends created captivating laughter and smoke until the train horn roared by at dusk. The boys didn’t seem to hear it, but this campsite by the river turn make the rails roar. Between 8 pm and 5 am, I remember five howls and when the sun was up, I was ready to start my day. There was sunshine and the smell of bacon in the morning as we let distance from Monday work and life's chores linger just a bit longer.Boys Camp brought me together with good friends and good food, 2 of the 10 ways I find magic on the trail. #108isMagic."

Great affordable campsite water in restroom or pit so your choice! Make sure you like the sound of trains as the sites are, I'm guessing, 200 yards or so from the track .

Stay here if you don’t want to sleep. Like at all. We pulled in and the trains started running at maybe 9:30pm? Thought it was just a one time thing. WRONG. They ran and honked allllll night it was horrible. Didn’t sleep at all since every time they passed it last for 5 minutes or more. Jesus Christ I’ll never stay here again unless I’m here for day use only.

Absolutely beautiful campground! But just a reminder it's right next to a train track so you will hear train horns blaring through the canyon multiple times a day/night!Restrooms: Not very clean but what can you do

Closed when I visited in early March. Lot's of truck noise from the highway nearby and the freight trains come through 3-4 times a night.

Beautiful camping grounds! Awesome that they have a FREE camping area! You just pull in your car. Almost every spot has its own fire pit and water spicket, also had paths that led down to the water. I also noticed the entire place was incredibly clean and well kept, and majority of camping spots were secluded and private! Perfect for my girl and I for a little spur of the moment romantic getaway! (Even without the tent, and just being in the car!)

Great spot. Pretty cheap. Campfire pits. Bathrooms. Even free firewood. Bring an axe cuz they only let you burn small pieces. Small creek if you follow the trail. Big river if you follow the train tracks. Bring tight shoes if you want to swim. Lots of rocks and the river will steal your sandals. God bless.

Toilets and floor were very clean. The history trail around the campground was interesting and fun. Standing on the old suspension bridge with a view of mt Shasta was very peaceful. The trains came through every hour, but were not too loud, we had fun watching them go by at the end of the bridge. Plenty of space between campsites. Blackberries are plentiful during the right time of year. For overnight camping, very nice. The very large trees made me a little nervous, limbs above the campsite could fall in some sites. Fish, tadpoles, and wildlife in the creek, and sacramento river. We had a great time.

Coming from a crowded city environment, I was hoping to escape the noises of the city. Instead I was welcomed with a train that went by atleast 5 times in a 24 hr period. The majority of the time it was at night when you were trying to sleep. On top of the train, you could hear the traffic coming from HWY 5. Besides all that , the area was beautiful and the history was pretty cool. I'm giving it 2 stars because it wasn't an escape from the city like I was hoping.

Watch out for "AGRESSIVE WASPS" on metal footbridge and snakes at night, here a non-venomous California Mountain Kingsnake. Tell the difference between a Kingsnake and venomous Coral snake by remembering "red touching black, safe for Jack; red touching yellow, kill a fellow". The train is nearby so if that bothers you maybe go elsewhere. But actually this campground was legit pretty excellent with the Sacramento River within earshot.

There is 2-3 trains every 1 ½-2hrs that last atleast 5min long each time pass that goes all day all night. The trains have different schedules every day. Sometimes no train and they pass at different times. But if u dont mind it, its really quiet between those times (not so many people) depending on the month u choose, like winter before they close the park on november 15th. Limit of days to stay is 14. We didnt experience any wild animal run ins except fecies of a small animal in many spots on the street path and one huge pile of Bear fecies by our campsite (#2) next to drinking water faucet; which there are alot of drinking water faucets in the campground. Some campsites are private and most are very open. 3 bathroom locations; one in beginning, 2nd in middle of park and 3rd at far end where it is much colder cause of the closeness of water. A river at each side. There is fishing. Clean bathrooms; toilet and sink. Marked men and women in the middle bathroom. Lots of paths to walk through. Beautiful. Host was amazing! I forgot his name but he was a older gentleman that had a long white beard that reached a pretty good distance.$15 a night. No day use. Big spaces for rv pull ins. Very dark/blinding at night, only lights are outside/inside bathrooms so bring flash lights & batteries.Closest market is super expensive so bring lots $$ but u are supporting it locally and they do have great burritoes and good selection of groceries including fruits.

decent campground next to the Put-in for the upper Sacramento River. There is a freight train railroad that runs very closely. The trans blast their horns very loudly many times a night. I think they do this intentionally because there are campers there.

Fantastic small Campground on interstate 5 near Mount Shasta. There is water, trash and Vault toilets, but other than that very minimal Campground. It is almost a primitive level of camp. There is an iron Ranger were you make your nightly payment. Wonderful creeks intersecting the area, and trails you can follow to Old Sawmills and historic CCC sites. Always great to take a quick dip in the Sacramento River as well.

Our favorite Campground. Right on the Sacramento River for good fishing. One reoccurring event are the trains that pass blowing their horn for the crossing. Quite a suprise at 2 am.

Not a very busy campground as there is limited access to other areas but it really is great for a single nights stay with clean restroom and flat sites for tents. Good price too.
