(Please note that I did not spend the night at the resort but was staying at a nearby campground so my review is on the actual outpost.)Went here to get red bull and marshmallows and use the bathroom while I was there. Bathroom was not in the best shape and had bugs, but everything worked and due the the location of the business and the bathrooms being outside it’s mostly unavoidable. Prices were high, but it wasn’t that bad. Great interior too.

Terrible experience, would rate 0/5. Made a reservation in January for a family camping trip towards the end of July. We were coming from out of state, so we thought we could minimize the things we needed to bring by renting a cabin from the Outpost. My dad and mom were going to stay with us so we thought staying at the Outpost would be more comfortable for them, too. We got a call about three hours before check-in and was informed our cabin was unavailable because of a plumbing issue, then told it was still being remodeled, and we could stay at a B&B just up the road from Downieville, which turned out to be half an hour away from where we wanted to be. We got there in the late afternoon to find the place a complete dump. Dirty linens, termites, fridge full of expired food, and we were placed in a hot attic room with little ventilation. My husband got locked out of the house and we were supplied with no keys. Luckily I was still inside. It was miserable, no one slept, the house was hot and had a super creepy vibe. The next morning we packed our things, I drove to Grass Valley and bought tents, air mattresses, and several blankets. I wasted half of one of my vacation days fixing a problem out of my control. I could have easily packed tents and camping supplies if given a days notice. It was so inconsiderate and I will never stay there and recommend you not stay there either. I was so lucky to have family staying at Carlton across the street to help us with what other supplies we didn't have. The Outpost used to be a reliable, fun place to visit and I've seen the Outpost evolve for the past 40 years. The Outpost is only good for ice these days, I'm sad to say. I can not express what a horrible experience we endured. It could have ruined our trip if we'd let it. Be careful if you choose to make a response. It could be disregard and you could get screwed. We did receive a full refund, but we were not refunded for our inconvenience and time lost with family on our vacation.

We had the cabin rented for three nights of super fun . Saturday night was the best because we had silent disco and partied down. Super fun Friday night movie night outside on a big screen. We had the best most rejuvenating experience. The hot tub cabin is awesome.

The hamburger for lunch today was excellent. I would recommend this as a stop for anybody traveling up the canyon. The host was very friendly and accommodating. The host is the only full-time resident here, anybody writing a negative review is off the mark. Great stop for ice, cold drinks or lunch at the grill!

Nice management. Great breakfast. Awesome RV spots (if you can get one). Had a great time spending an extended weekend here. Karla & Dave (the owners) have hired an excellent & passionate staff that treat guests very well. Try the biscuits and gravy with eggs and bacon. Top notch!

This is a wonderful little stop on our drive up Hwy 49. We stopped in to rest while the kids tubed the river. The outpost is warm, fun, and inviting. Great burgers, ice cream, and pie! We were greeted by very friendly staff and owners. Well worth the visit!

We just stopped in for a beer, but it was nice. The people were friendly and you can bring your dog. I wish they would have had memorabilia though. I like to collect that stuff. All in all nice place hidden away close by the yuba.

AVOID AVOID AVOIDI had booked this place months in advance for a bachelor party , sight unseen, based off of what is advertised on their website and other camp sites. It was downhill with this business from the arrival. They advertise a “full kitchen” but it’s a mini fridge, broken oven(that “wasn’t their problem”) and some questionable burners. My backpacking burners are wayyy better. When planning to arrive for a 2pm(late) check-in, we had to wait at least another hour and half until we could enter the unit. On top of that the teepee wasn’t “ready” and no one told us when it was.THE HOT TUB. THE REASON I BOOKED THIS PLACE. LOOK AT THE PHOTOS.Luckily I bumped into someone and told them it’s a cesspool. They eventually drained it. It was going to just stay like that if I hadn’t told them.ON MY WAY OUT THEY SAID I OWED THEM MONEY BECAUSE THEIR EMPLOYEE MADE A MISTAKE.GET YOUR BUSINESS TOGETHER

My son’s car broke down and it took two day to get a tow truck to come the guys in the store we’re so nice to let us leave the car in the parking lot until a tow truck could get there and also gave us free bottled water because they could tell we were having a rough time you don’t run into people like that that offer nowadays just wanted to say a big thank you.

Even though the Indian valley Outpost has changed owners several times over the last 50+ years that I have been a customer and visitor, it's always maintained great service and a fun place to visit! Be sure to check out what is on the ceiling inside! They have a restaurant (closed with the Covid-19), air for inflating inner tubes, small grocery and beverage store (selling beer and ice). It is right between the Fiddle Creek campground and Carlton flat campground, about 1/4 mile from each.

This place used to be my second home. My dad(Bill Collier) grew up here. Then he started bringing our family here every year for a month since I was a baby (I'm 30 now). However, when my dad passed away in 2010 I stopped coming. I knew the old owners VERY well (Bill & Sherri Blackwell. Along with her Dad, and Bob♡all R.I.P.) I agree the biscuits & Gravy(by Jeff) are the best! I still haven't been back 😞 but will be coming back shortly to bring my mom to be with my dad✝ Hope too much hasn't changed ♥

We were having a not-so-great trip up from the Bay Area and pulled in to the Indian Valley Outpost on a whim to see how it might be for future camping. We ended up eating there, talking to the owners for two hours, and staying the night in the Laredo 2-bedroom RV. The stay rescued our vacation. We had no idea there were teepees in the back, an RV to rent out and a cabin that sleeps 11!Tempurpedic mattress on ALL beds throughout the resort! You will get a great night's sleep after mountain biking or rafting or whatever adventure you're on.The food is GREAT. It's classic diner food, a spoon without the greasy. Big servings anbd reasonable prices and everything tasted great with fresh ingredients. I had the spaghetti and garlic bread and when I tasted the sauce I knew it was from scratch, with Angus beef. My husband had the burger, and the next day he had the breakfast sandwich and I had the French Toast. I bet my husband that the fruit cup wouldn't have anything from a can and I won the bet.We were pooped and crabby and got the good night's sleep we needed on the mattresses. It's clean, clean, clean. The owners scoured everywhere to get the coolest decor for the restaurant, with a lot of things donated from the previous owner. There are gold flakes in the bar counter, you can decorate a dollar and they tack it on the ceiling as has been a tradition for decades. The teepees are great quality and the bunks/beds in them also have Tempurpedic mattresses. The cabin is jaw-dropping, take a tour if you can't stay. This place is worth the stay, definitely give it a shot.I had never been to the place before these owners took over, but I get the feeling they were able to keep the atmosphere and traditions alive from the previous owners.Locals eat here!

My first trip here was back in the 70's with a bunch of high school friends when Ted n Suzy Heston were the owners. We enjoyed our time there so much we would end up spending the entire summer up there. Eventually my friends parents, Dick & Shirley Hale ended up buying the Outpost and ran it for the next several years. Many of us also had the pleasure of becoming Clampers of Chapter 1849 Downieville... a memory not soon forgotten. I'd highly recommend spending a week or two in and around Indian Valley....you'll meet some nice people and have some great times that will last a lifetime!

Service and accomodations surely the best in the downieville area. Stayed here two years in a row and plan to stay here every trip to downieville. Dave and Carla made us feel safe and very much at home. Very convenient to have a general store and great restaurant on site and you may be lucky enough to have a slice of Carlas homemade peach pie. Love this place!
