I had the burger and cheesesteak. Both were excellent but the cheesesteak was awesome. The prices here are very reasonable too so it’s only $10-$12 per meal which includes fries.

Have heard of this place for years. Worth the hype. Had a small chocolate malt, cheeseburger and ample fries. Everything was delicious and service was friendly. This is a must-stop for PCT hikers.

Friendly, neighborhood environment. Great food. Great people. The people here are super welcoming. If you are or plan on walking the trail, Oak Shores Malt Shop is a must to stop and stock up on supplies and get a delicious warm meal.

Such great people working here!Highly populated by PCT hikers for some burgers and shakes! Lots of items to restock the hikers needs.I've also witnessed a large population of locals here as well.Great food, I waited 3 days for a Philly Cheesesteak and it was well worth it. I should've shared it was so much food!

Great stop, whether you're headed to the lake, camping, taking a break from the Pacific Crest Trail, or simply needing to purchase groceries. Friendly service offering everything from fishing and camping supplies, to groceries, beer, wines and spirits or Thrifty Ice Cream on a hot day. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner from burgers to pizzas, fries, appetizers, and much more.

Well, besides buying some much needed supplies, I ate breakfast and came back for potatoe & cheese soap. The food was perfect.The man working the front gave me a phone # so that I was able to hire a ride down to the start of the PCT.Oh, and of coarse I had a malt.I would have gone back a 3rd time, but my 20 mile hike took 11.5 hours and I was beat.Thank-you, I hope to come again.II Sticks

There is a great selection of thru-hiker supplies (not as marked up as I'd expected) and the kitchen menu is pretty diverse and delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful.

This is a diner/convenience store/liquor store.I had the chicken fried steak and a chocolate Malt which was really just a regular chocolate shake. Then I grabbed a couple of Electrolit waters for the road. In the morning I came back for the two egg breakfast with bacon and hash browns. The store opens at 7am but the kitchen doesn't open until 9.

Lilly is an amazing cook/server. She is kind and a very hard worker. Whenever we showed up breakfast lunch or dinner, she was there each day. The food is amazing. Frank is nice too! If you go camping at Lake Morena stop by the Shop...free WIFI too. Btw: besides the restaurant they've got everything at that little shop from Propane, fishing supplies, gear to keep you warm, food...and booze...lol.

Great Lil Store on Oak Drive off Lake Morena Road...in Morena Viilage! Very freindly people & staff!! Can use EBT. Have adult beverages for take-out purchase. And good amount of food and cold drinks. In-house grill with ice cream & shakes. Breakfast too!! Not to expensive $5-15. Fruits from 50cents to $2 #.

Malt shakes, real ingredients nostalgic tastes, yes, please. We visited for lunch, cooked perfectly, decently priced, and worth the money spent. Dine in, sat outside, and was pleasant on a quiet Saturday afternoon. Friendliness was a great experience. 👍

We didn't eat at the Malt Shop but bought some beers and snacks. Pretty good selection of craft beers for the small little shop. We walked to the shop from Lake Morena Campground. Next time we are in the area camping I will try the food at the shop.

Incredible sandwiches and incredible people. We had the double bacon cheeseburger and the pastrami melt, which were WELL worth the reasonable pricing.The pizza was pretty good too, but nothing to write home about.

I ordered 2 Denver omelettes with sausages to go inside. No toast. I made that very clear. I was given extra sausages on the SIDE on top of the very small amount of hash browns I received... And toast that was ON TOP of my omelette. The cheese melted on the bread. I was told by frank (whom was EXTREMELY RUDE) "you can just take the toast off it's not a big deal" he also said "people make mistakes we are human just like you make mistakes". I don't think this was the correct way to handle this at all. Very poor customer service and disrespectful attitude even when they are in the wrong. This food was quickly thrown together and it's clear frank did not care. The cooks name is Valerie. Yes mistakes do happen but I've never heard of being chastised while simply informing them of the errors on THEIR end. I asked for an owner and Frank rudely said "The owner won't speak to you at all you have to go through me" After being rudely spoken to I doubt the owner would be proud of the way his store is ran in that manner. If anybody has any information on how to reach out to the owner I'd greatly appreciate it. I have a few others who has this very same experience that would like to reach out as well. Thank you.Update: 7:20pm same dayOne of my neighbors went in the store to grab some ice and FRANK told him to tell me "stop complaining about the toast". For 1 I left it alone earlier with him rudely saying the owner won't speak to me and for 2 my children are ALLERGIC to bread. So to make a joke and to tell a neighbor this as if it's funny I DO NOT APPRECIATE IT AT ALL. It's mind boggling how some people do not have any manners nor customer service or even have an EMPATHETIC response when THEY are in the wrong. "It's just toast" could've cost someone's life and then what? Would it be funny? I am disgusted.

Cute little shop just outside Lake Moreno Campground. Prices are so fair it's amazing. Service was kind and selection was surprisingly good. I have so much confidence in my next camping stay knowing if I forget something I can easily stop here and get whatever I need. Also pizza is amazing haha

Staffs attitude poor. After i spent 30 dollars on food and tipped they refused to fill my water bottle. Genuinely cannot remember a time I have received worse service. Avoid this place!

It's a convenience store / sit down or take out restaurant. Small but very good food. Not so friendly service but I believe it's because they are always busy. I've tried the pizza and the cheeseburger and both are delicious. You have to try the milkshakes.They make any flavor from the ice cream they have available.

This place has just about everything you'd need while camping at the lake down the road. I was able to get outdoor extension cables, firewood, drinks, treats, and pretty good food to go.

The cafe has amazing food. The service is great and always friendly. The shop has just about anything you need for your hike up the PCT or for your day at Lake Morena. Gotta get some of that yummy Thrifty Ice Cream while you're there too!

Great food and shakes. If you're in the area, Oak Shores Malt shop is definitely worth the visit. I highly recommend their burgers, pizza and malt shakes. Portions are generous, despite being within a convenience store don't expect gas station sized servings.

A bit of a busy place so we had to wait a bit. Good burgers, bacon, and fries. Just a bit crispy though. It is, however a must stop to see why it's a pct hiker institution. I'll get the Swiss mushroom burger next time.

Friendly people always willing to help when asked. Definitely a stop for the PCT hikers after the first small but rough section of the trail. Food is delicious and the menu is pretty big for such q small place. Good beer selection too.

Always on the hunt for an exceptional eatery, my wife Francisca and I caught a glimpse of this non-descript burger joint/general store on a prior drive out to Lake Morena in San Diego's east county. Call it good marketing but the name piqued my interest. Malt Shop? Now that's a serious play from the 50's to which I'dve bet my Peter Max poster that nostalgia in San Diego County died about the time I donated my platform shoes and lava lamp collection. Fortunately I was wrong. So last week on one of those days when the only thing that sounds better than a great burger is a fun road trip to precede it, my 'anywhere on the road companion' and I, after first reading the solid reviews of the Oak Creek Malt Shop, decided to pay homage to this popular hole in the wall I'd heretofore been ignorant of. And, after calling to confirm this place was for real and open, we hit the road.An hour later I asked the accommodating all business proprietor what she recommended. 'Bacon cheeseburger'. ''Make mine a double". What came next was a gastronomical delight that could only have been made with me in mind.Served on a golden brioche bun, the juicy perfectly seasoned patties we're cooked to perfection, smothered in cheddar and crowned by sumptuous thick cut bacon, finished off with fresh tomato, lettuce, purple onion and condiments including mayo, (they know) served with a heaping side of crisp golden fries.We ate outside, enjoying the natural beauty of the area and the satisfaction that comes from having found another destination treasure to satisfy that all too familiar urge that comes upon us now and again.
