They sold us cats that they either knew, or should have known, were sick with a highly-contagious and usually-fatal virus. Two of the cats have died so far, breaking our hearts; the third one is sneezing but might pull through. They seem to have no qualms about doing this, which seems disgraceful. We recommend adopting from a place that does not sell sick cats to the public.

Had a great time on a field trip with my granddaughters class. They read books to the dogs who are up for adoption. Also had a nice time visiting with the veterinarian and holding kittens and puppies.

Very very disappointed. Unable to adopt in spite of numerous applications. Dog in question not ready to be adopted and required more care than any adopter should be expected to provide under the circumstances. More recovery time should be allowed when a shelter dog has just had surgery and could react negatively to any new person no matter how kind of experienced

Give people a chance who want a job with your company, not everyone is perfect on their first day. Train them at least! People get nervous when someone is watching them do a performance assessment.

I love this place! Everyone is so great! Even the manager, Julie, talked me through how to properly introduce my new kittens to my dog and even made sure I understood their vaccines. All of their animals were very well taken care of. Great customer service with a smile. I recommend this place to everyone!

Fantastic place, we've rescued two lovely dogs from here. The people are great and the animals are well looked after in a clean and happy environment. They are reasonably priced compared to some rescues too. There is plenty of space out back for dogs to run around and they always have access to the outside in the day time.

Over the years, I've been in and out of SYV Humane Society several times. The staff are always friendly and professional. The animals are well cared-for and social. I especially love the indoor/outdoor cat room, which allows me to meet cats on their own terms. When my last cat died, this was the first place I looked. They were great cats, but you know how it goes. None of them (this time!) had the special pull on my heartstrings. They are one of the smallest Humane Societies in Santa Barbara County - but they've grown a lot ! Techniques, technology, the latest in behavioral work - they either have it or are working on it.

We found our last 2 cats here. We visited every weekend for 2 months so that we could get to know all of the cats. This helped to know which were calm some days and feisty others. Now, as we are looking for a new cat or two, we are visiting regularly again. The staff is patient with us and very informative.

I took my kitty to SYV Humane Society in 2012 for vaccinations as well as to be fixed. We had such a good experience we took our puppy back this February 2018! The friendly and professional staff as well as clean and organized office made me feel comfortable leaving my furbabies with them!

Manager (Julie) extremely rude with me. Big time sas someone needs to learn some communication skills. (Everyone else was kind however, just had the wrong information). I was told on the phone I could adopt one kitten out of a litter and confirmed twice. Overjoyed I drove 20 min to the shelter. As I was leaving they tell me I can’t because I need a letter from my landlord and that the kittens actually have to get adopted in a group of three. I couldn’t get just one. (Come on people you should have told me this info on the phone)Other kittens looked very sick and one had a broken tail that I told them about and they said they hadn’t noticed and did nothing about it. Poor thing.

Front desk staff were kind, but manager was lousy and rude. I'm not the only one who has noticed that she hides in her office and hardly helps out. Would've had better luck talking to a rock instead.

Love it here! I've adopted twice. They're careful and considerate about who adopts their animals. They are patient and kind about the adoption process and they want it to be a good fit for the animal and owner/caregiver.
