Incredible history and great place. Have been a frequent patron since 1990's. However is ran horribly. I have tried to book rooms, schedule a group event and no replies from hotel portion. Also was there with family and dates recently and major drama in bar area. The local group blatantly lied to expel my group. I don't feel took liking to sharp dressed, good looking fun group throwing around money, offended their sensibility. Bouncers useless a joke. Not wasting my time or money there until new management, new business model that makes out of towners feel welcome and appreciated.

Just stayed one night and had a great evening. The room was very spacious, very clean, things were quiet and we had a great night of sleep. We loved the big big balcony. Sure it looks over parking lot but wow, what a parking lot, so many gorgeous trees. If you're on a road trip through this area the Brookdale is a great option. One star is knocked off for the 3% they add for paying with a credit card. This is disclosed, however, on their website in small print but it's easily unnoticed.

Spacious room for the price. There's a convenience store and tattoo parlor downstairs, not in a tacky way more wow that's cool. The History of this place is awesome and potential even more.We can't wait until they finish renovating. We'll be coming here forever more.Rooms: Well Renovated rooms. Up to date and with a balcony on every floor and the sound of the water running by.Nearby activities: Santa Cruz is so close. Our favorite places to go are the main drags in Boulder Creek and Felton.Great antique shops and boutiques.Food & drinks: Boulder Creek Pizza is amazing!Noteworthy details: The history and potential of this lodge is incredible. Worth researching while you're there. It feels so special.

Rooms were slightly above average motel rooms. Why above average? Well, ours was 50% larger than an average days inn room, but like unnecessarily so. It was just empty space with nothing in it. I guess good if you have like 2 or 3 roll-away beds you've added on maybe? Also above average because the bathrooms had no mold. Surprising, in a good way. So why only 3*? First, 10pm is when front desk closes. This wasn't posted anywhere on their own website at time of booking nor was it included in our confirmation email from the Lodge for the booking made directly through them. How did we find out? A phone call from the lodge a few hours before 10pm. And it wasn't even on the message they left made clear whether after 10pm it's even possible to check-in. Bad communication. That's not ok. Also, in case you do want to turn in somewhat early on a Friday or Saturday, good luck since your room will not insulate you from the noise of the bar across the parking lot.Walkability: You might die on that bend in 9 if you try to walk. Sad, as close as it is to Boulder Creek. But that's what it is.

We recently stayed at the Brookdale Lodge because my daughters wedding was nearby. Many people from our group stayed at the Lodge. We had a wonderful time. The place is comfortable, and has a bar with outside and inside seating, pool table, karaoke, a nice café, ice cream, and lots of trees and beauty. The rooms are clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay here and our guests all had a great time in the evenings. Highly recommend this location. They could use a larger wine selection, they only had a couple of choices for red wine. Everything else was great!

Stayed for 2 nights for the Annual Big Queer Weekend Burlesque event in August. The cafe cranks out yummy food. The bar is groovy. The redwoods are relaxing and the history of the place is fascinating. Whether you are local or visiting, you will love this place. The rooms are nice too. I will be back. Oh, and I forgot to mention, everyone who works there is super nice and helpful! Thanks all :)

The location is cute and nested in the mountains. The room was clean which is a huge plus. They don't offer breakfast and have an adjacent bar and restaurant that has live music which wasn't a plus for us (too much noise if you wanna sleep). Also the reception was closed until 8 am so I had to just slip my room key and leave at 7 am. But overall I think for a 2 star hotel, it was good.

Stopped to peruse the hotel and grab a quick beer on our way to the mountain! Service was excellent we were greeted at the bar immediately, which looks incredible after the remodel! The area is so beautiful, you’re surrounded by redwood trees on all sides and there’s a little creek that runs through the outside of the hotel. Explore a few of the little shops and restaurants connected to the hotel, everyone is lovely and the food is great!Food & drinks: Good prices on beer and wine!

What a fantastic find! I was on a solo motorcycle trip. My room was spacious and clean, and the staff were quite friendly and accommodating. The room looked freshly remodeled as well. The price point was outstanding! There's a little market on site where you can purchase drinks, snacks, or anything you have forgotten to bring. Had breakfast and dinner at the little Cafe there and the food was delicious. Finally, the setting among the redwoods is just gorgeous and very relaxing. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area again!Nearby activities: Explore the redwoods. Head into Santa Cruz to check out the boardwalk or the pier. Great base for hiking, bicycle riding or motorcycling.

Best place to stay! The rooms are roomy and clean in Santa Cruz mountains with beautiful views. I slept really well. The service is excellent. There's a cafe open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's a great deal and away from the city. Found it because I couldn't get a room when dropping off my kid to UCSC. Much better choice. This time they upgraded me to a suite over the office for better internet connection--free of charge!

Went to see live music on a chilly evening, not only did they have a huge fire place roaring, but they also put the heat on to make the room comfortable. I love the big dance floor plenty of room, and many comfy side tables to hang out at, plus they have warm and sexy lighting. They have a large area for the band to play and still plenty of room to danceAlso right there is the bar where you can play pool or other bar games and still see the band, The bartender was super friendly and gave great service. That night The 10 O’clock Lunch Band was playing ✨ everybody had such a great time! I’m looking forward to seeing them there again . I highly recommend seeing any live music at the Brookdale Lodge you’ll have a great time.

The room was updated, stylish and comfortable bed linens, and we slept well. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Plenty of USB ports, fridge/freezer, microwave and coffeemaker in room. A little more attention to detail could go a long way to making this a 5-star experience. There were rings from previous drinks on the bedside table, a previous guest’s partial leftovers in the freezer, ice cream and other sticky substances on the patio table and chair prevented us from enjoying the space. The sink leaked on first use. Someone came to repair but never checked back (it was still leaking slightly when we checked out). The tub was SUPER slippery, and no bath mat was supplied for stepping out of the shower. Oddly, we couldn’t get any cold water from the faucet. They’re dog-friendly and located near hiking/biking trails so convenient and great if you’re looking for a place to crash. It has the potential to be a destination if they pay more attention to some esthetic details.

I booked my stay for two nights. Was going to arrive (really)late after their check in time, staff was accommodating to that over the phone when I booked. Once we got to the room, I overheard water dripping, I looked into the bathroom and the tub was filled about 1/5 with not clean water . I had to stick in my hand in to let the water drain. Hair was visible in the tub that was pretty gross, walls were dirty. After that I naturally was thinking what else am I going to see. I noticed the carpet was not vacuumed properly, there was blonde hair and leftover residue of who knows what through the place and getting stuck on our socks. I was not able to sleep :( and called the front desk in the morning (during their business hours) if the could cancel my second night. I honestly felt really uncomfortable. I’m glad they allowed me to cancel/refund my second night. I’m really disappointed I paid full price for the one night/ yucky experience.

it was pretty nice. it was really cold out so we didn’t get to explore much and the diner was closed as well but for pricing it was great. there is a little market at the place as well which has a lot of variety to choose from. our room was nice. we got a superior king room and it was big. the bathroom was nice. perfect lighting. it was kind of in the middle of nowhere so that was my fault for not looking. if your looking for more of a get away from the city type of stay then this is perfect. the water did shut off once during our stay because of some issue but we just went out until it was back on. would go again if anything!

We had a lovely time. The hotel is quaint and cozy. Our room was clean and fresh, and the bed was very comfortable, with flexible reading lights on both sides. It was pleasant sitting out on the small balcony, which overlooked several large trees and a small gathering area with cute lampposts and an outdoor fireplace. White string lights provided a welcoming glow at night. The staff was friendly and helpful. We were disappointed that the on-site diner was closed due to an “emergency,” but the on-site convenience store was well stocked. We didn’t try the bar, but plan to next time — we will definitely be back! We didn’t experience any of the problems mentioned by a few other reviewers. It is an older hotel, but by no means dirty as some complained. We visited midweek and found it very quiet with a lovely ambience. I understand they have live entertainment on the weekends, which likely increases the number of guests, but the posted fliers make it sound fun rather than annoying. We wish we could return soon enough for the witches’ ball at the end of the month! A word of advice — most of the local restaurants were only open for breakfast and lunch, no dinner, and some also were only open Thurs-Sun, which was a bit frustrating. But the Henry Cowell redwoods are only about a ten minute drive and are breathtaking, and the entire forested area was gorgeous. Brookdale isn’t a 5 star hotel, but that’s not something you’d expect in a small mountain community anyway, and we would highly recommend it.

This was a very nice surprise. Very clean, interesting place. Only thing is it's kinda out of the way of food and we were told the cafe was open. They had closed an hour before their time. Left us travelling up the road for pizza( not my favorite). We came from Davenport. The route google took us on was kinda rough and long at night. The road out into Santa Cruz the next day was beautiful through redwoods. Overall we were very happy with our stay. There's a store cafe and bar on site.Rooms: Rooms were very clean. Cute little balcony. Also had a fridge and microwave.Nearby activities: 10 to 15 minutes from beaches. Beautiful redwood parks.Food & drinks: Cafe on site. But double check hours. The desk told us they'd be open for another 1.5 hours and they closed early. There's a bat that has live music on Saturdays.

My stay at the Lodge was fantastic it's a beautiful place. The room was very nice, clean and I loved the modern design. The owners have done a great job with the remodel of the place. The staff was very friendly. The manager JC was amazing, such a nice man, he was welcoming and accommodating. It is dog friendly too and my little guy loved it. They have a doggie area for your dogs to do their duty in. There's a road up behind the lodge that goes through the redwoods and was great to walk my dog up. I will definitely be visiting again!

We stayed in several rooms, as we were having a family reunion. We had not ever been there before and everyone from the staff who helped us book the rooms to the staff in the restaurant and bar, were truly AMAZING! I think they were so short in the restaurant, the guys were taking our orders AND cooking our food! And it came out timely and DELICIOUS! This place is a gorgeous gem, the rooms have been updated and for the price, you seriously can't beat it. One part of our family has already returned and we can't wait to go back again!

Better than expected! Our room was very large and updated and had a balcony! We got a private tour of the lodge which was an amazing lesson in the history of the hotel. Really enjoyed our stay! Oh, and we didn’t see or hear any ghosts!

While I am a local, stayed here with family to finally check it out. Although the history is cool, and the area beyond beautiful, I would NEVER stay here again, especially for the prices they charge for kind of dirty rooms. Bedding was ripped and not even fitted on the mattress. There was visible damage to the room and a leaking that made the carpet wet from the shower. But the kicker is that you can not get ANY kind of sleep as you can hear every single little sound of everything, even people just walking from in the room. Sounds like elephants are walking around above your head. The maintenance is extremely loud, even the cleaning ladies. And there seems to be events every second of the day / night. If you want to party I guess that would be ok. I was extremely let down by this place as I've wanted to stay the night here since I was a kid growing up in SC. All in all I will never stay here again and never recommend it which is a shame because the original old building and pool were great back in the day, but you can't even go to that side of the property any more. Save yourself the outrageous charge for a room here and find somewhere more clean and quiet. Highly disappointed.

Clean and spacious room with modern finishes and a super-cozy king. Private balcony amidst towering redwoods was an added bonus. Staff interactions were all-around excellent.

We drove over 8 hours for a much needed quiet getaway. Upon arrival the guy at check in had a bad attitude like we were taking up his time by checking in. He sent us in the complete wrong direction to our room and it was frustrating after the long drive being sent on goos chase to find our room. We chose this hotel because it had a restaurant and shops and a jacuzzi tub. The restaurant never opened. We were told it’s only open on weekends and that their website states that. It does not. So we had to drive more to get food. The shops were closed except the little liquor store. The jacuzzi tub didn’t work. We had to kill giant mosquitos our entire stay because they don’t have insect control. There was old nasty food on the floor. There were hairs in the sink and tub. The pillows were just a joke. The guests upstairs from our room were up ALL night long making noise and stomping around.Rooms: Dirty
