Today - Ate breakfast here expecting the wonderful Mexican food they used to serve here! Nope. This has changed. Spoke to the server and owner They can no longer serve Mexican food (wanted Huevos Rancheros), since it is "too expensive to prepare," as was their wonderful Eggs Benedict. Now you can expect regular fried eggs and omelets and pancakes which are also served at most other restaurants in this area.Food is ok, but no longer a distinctuve difference! So I guess we go back to the River Inn tomorrow where we are staying and eat eggs and pancake breakfast there. So disappointed since it used to be really good and I liked really good Mexican food! We won't be back since there is no longer a reason to eat there!

Only went to the Cafe for breakfast, and it was really, really good. Got French toast and a side of bacon, both were excellent. It's definitely worth the stop if you're hungry.Food & drinks: Breakfast food was excellent!

Had a great little time at Ripplewood this past weekend. The cabin was as described and was an easy walk down the hill to the creek. Comfortable and quiet even with being close to the hwy. There were no issues for us or our kids, and we would love to come back again. Pictures on the site do it justice, and the little shop they have had all the necessities in case you forget anything.

We did not stay at the resort. We were just visiting Big Sur for the day and wanted breakfast. Their cafe did not disappoint. The service was very friendly and the food was tasty. They kept the coffee coming which was really nice. If ever we are in the area again, would definitely make a return visit to the cafe!Nearby activities: Lots of places for hiking.

A great little spot down in the hallow. The cabins are cute and clean. The staff is friendly and the meals nearby, if you don't want to cook in your fire pit, are delicious.

We did not stay here and had breakfast at the cafe. All the other restaurants around were only serving lunch, but the Cafe served breakfast until 2:00pm.The food was so good! I had the eggs Benedict with spinach, and my wife had the veggie scramble and she said it was pretty good and fresh. The staff was prompt and friendly.

AMAZING! Super sweet staff, great rustic & cozy accommodations, delicious food. If you’re looking for a modern fancy place, this is not the place for you. If your In need of some time away from all the hustle and bustle of city life, definitely check this place out. The cabin was stocked with everything you could need , extra blankets/pillows, toiletry items, cooking and dining necessities, wood and starter for a fire. The cabin was super clean. The general store had just about anything you could want or need, plus prices were super reasonably priced compared to other stores in the area. The service and food from the cafe was amazing, fresh and super yummy! Try the chorizo and eggs…you won’t be disappointed. Large portion sizes. They don’t serve dinner but there are a few cafes/taverns in either direction, within about a mile that have great fare. I’m almost regretting posting such a review cause I’m trying to book a stay again and they are sold out… however, must give credit where credit is due. Loved our stay , will be back again!

Overall, fine. Convenient to reach the national parks, but the cabins are very low spec for what you’re paying, especially compared to other spots around here. The staff are lovely, but the owner was very rude and unhelpful when we needed help with something. Not really what you expect when you spend nearly 300 dollars for one night in a cabin - where the shower is so low you can only fit under it if you’re under 5 foot and the outdoor table by the kitchen is covered in old bird poo. You can also hear cars as it is right on the road.

We had a wonderful magical time staying here! The cabin was amazing and so peaceful amongst the redwoods and on the Big Sur river bank. Morning coffee and danish on the back river deck of cabin. One of my favorite experiences was staying here. We loved it. Quiet and serene. Easy check in. Great staff. Will definitely return. I can’t say enough to express the amazing time we had here!

Very cool little spot. Felt like traveling back in time. There are few amenities but what is there is well maintained. Great way to experience nature without actually camping!

This was my 3rd time staying at this place and I enjoyed every stay as if it was the first time. It is a very rustic, enchanting, magical place to stay (in my opinion). I happen to like this type of environment. This type of environment is not for everybody so if you're looking for a luxurious pampered environment then most likely this isn't the place for you. However, if you are happy with the simple things in life and are able to adapt to this kind of environment then I highly recommend ripplewood! I love the shade of the tall trees and the flowing river running through the back of the cabins. Truly magical. To be able to have a camp fire and barbecue is a definite plus! The only thing I would change would be the check out process...it would be nice to be able to leave the keys in a drop off box or in the locked cabin due to leaving early (before 8am) to beat traffic. Other than that...absolutely LOVE this place and will DEFINITELY be back!!!

We stayed one night in cabin#9. It was very basic and old. No wifi and no TV. The favorite part is the fire pit and the little kitchen. There were many campers across the creek. I feel it’s a bit noisy and lack of privacy when we sat at the patio. I had stayed in a better cabin in the north shore which is cheaper too. The breakfast was delicious but service was very very slow.

We stopped for lunch at this restaurant. A rustic place but we left happy with our meals. I had pancakes and they were excellent. My partner had eggs, toast and hashbrowns which were equally good. Service was also good. Our server was friendly and had that extra something in his demeanor that left you with the impression that he enjoyed his job.

What a great place! It is a throwback to the old motor lodges of my youth, but with the amazing bonus of having the "tourist cabins" located right on the historic Big Sur River. The cabins themselves are attractively rustic and very well-designed. Ours had two bedrooms (one bed is in the living room, the other bed and bathroom were separated by a door), with a nice little kitchen off to the side, and it has a separate entrance. You are provided firewood and starter for the fireplace, and there is also an electric baseboard heater in the living room, and well as a very effective gas wall heater in the bedroom. Both rooms have ceiling fans, too. Most of the windows opened, so you could get lots of fresh air and the wonderful roar of the river flowing by your back deck. The folks in the Ripplewood general store/front desk couldn’t have been sweeter or more patient. The cafe next door has a terrific breakfast. The overall experience is like being in a really well-run state park. Everything is beautifully maintained, and the prices are very reasonable on everything, which might seem surprising, given the relatively remote location. Clearly, the owners want your stay to be a quality experience.

A wonderful assortment of cabins in Big Sur located right on Highway 1.We enjoyed our stay in cabin 12B and slept like babies in total silence with so many stars shining. The staff was helpful checking and shared their knowledge freely.Cell service and Wi-Fi are spotty at best and no TV… but that is what made it a truly enjoyable getaway.

Didn’t stay here but had breakfast here. The chorizo with eggs was a solid 4/5. The food came out hot and came with some soft taco shells. The Eggs Benedict was good. Hollandaise sauce is not too sour and eggs were cooked to perfection. Avocado, ham and mushrooms were all a perfect mix. However, the mushrooms and hash brown was a little burnt. A 4/5 because of the burnt stuff.Overall a solid 4/5 - will come back and order the same things.

We popped in this place last minute to get a bite to eat before closing and they welcomed us with open arms. We had some of their homemade Mexican food and it was....."The Best" wish we had this good of food and service at home. We will be back for sure.

Excellent location literally on the river, away from the highway, and surrounded by redwoods. Beautiful. The cabin was rustic but functional and clean. Staff was very friendly. Our only issue was our visit to the cafe where the food was good but mostly cold when it arrived.

We LOVED our stay here and would DEFINITELY come back! It's not cheap, but I would say it's worth it! The cabin isn't brand new, but it was comfortable. The shower had a glass ceiling so you could stare at the redwoods above while you showered! The room had a fireplace and the owners left us all the supplies necessary for staring a fire. The room and towels were very clean. There is no WiFi in the room and no phone service in the surrounding area. But there is a pay phone at the rental office for emergencies. The convenience store had anything you could possibly need from postcards to day packs and board games. There is a restaurant too if you would like your breakfast cooked for you instead of cooking it yourself in your fully equipped kitchen.

Overall a lovely place. Some cabins are too close to each other. No wifi. Only a few cabins close to the river. If you’re lucky (and on the side away from the river) you may see wild turkeys

Didn't stay the cabin resort this time. But definitely going to look into it!! The little cafe though...was a quant little place for breakfast (at least that's what we had). The patio seating looked inviting I guess that's why it was full... Sitting in the atrium was nice too though. The food was good and my picky Littles even found something on the menu to eat themselves.

We only ate at the restaurant for 5 days in a row for breakfast because it was so delicious. Authentic Mexican ingredients. I ordered the juan hagaris omelette 5 days in a row, with the side of the pinto beans which were homemade. The staff was fantastic and super accommodating ... took care of everything. Best place to eat in Big Sur.

We loved this place! Clean, quiet, comfortable. We rented one side of a duplex. Walls are thin, but if you have good neighbors, it's not a problem. Road noise only until dark.We stayed two nights and would certainly go back!

We stayed at Ripplewood for only one night at the end of October but wished we had more time to be able to stay longer. My partner had stayed many years before so for her it was nice to revisit a place she had fond memories of. We had a small cabin to our selves which was perfect, it was very clean and tidy. Staff were welcoming and friendly, we booked over the phone by calling from the UK with no issues. I’d recommend staying and going down to the beach at night to see the stars, with so little light pollution the sky is absolutely amazing.

Nice cosy place to have breakfast, very reasonable prices and the staff are really friendly. Portions are good and the food is tasty!

Cold bathroom with no heat…but otherwise quaint and cosy in winter.Especially if you keep the bathroom door open to warm it up which makes the bed cold in winter. The pioneers had it much worse so I shouldn’t complain, we were roughing it.
