The view from our campground site was spectacular!! The restrooms on the premises were clean, and the campgrounds were well-maintaine Oid. We were warned not to use the water temporarily due to testing positive for salmonella (it's been raining heavily)—wood sold on the premises. There was a nice trail to the beach across the road from the campsite (see the pic on the stairs). Must go!

Beautiful grounds with spacious sites. Located directly on Highway 1, only a few steps from the ocean. If you don’t mind about rude host and quite pricey rates this is your place to stay.

We had a fantastic time at the campground! Ocean views from campsites 7 and 8 were stunning. Site 8 offered plenty of shade, while we managed to fit three 5 people tents in campsite 7. Restrooms are clean and in my opinion closed water sinks helped, as there were no lines. The well-maintained campsite, easy access to Sand Dollar Beach, and proximity to great hikes made the long drive from Bay Area totally worth it. The camp hosts were also incredibly friendly and helpful with all our questions. They recommended truly awesome hikes. Conveniently, you can purchase fire wood and fire starters right at the campsite. Overall, a highly enjoyable experience!!

We booked this on a recommendation. It was a nice quiet campground, bathrooms were clean. We had site 31, and there is no shade at all (there were 3-4 HUGE trees which had been cut down and the trunks were left, which made a fun for place for the kids to climb, but did not help with shade). Also we had two tents and both were either on a slope or had roots/lumps. I can sleep almost anywhere, but I do prefer a flat spot. Nice fire pit, extra long table, and separate bbq. Some other campers told us the poison oak on the trail down to Sand Dollar beach was so profound, it scared us away, so we never actually went there. Instead, we packed up the car and drove to Willow Creek just down the road a couple miles, and that was lovely with easy access to the beach. I would not go here again, as the drive was made long by the bridge being out (we came from Bay Area) and I didn't like the lack of privacy (we were definitely just right in the middle of everything and neighbors right there). Beautiful part of the coast though, and all in all it was a fun time, but I've been to better.

It's my first time camping in California or Big Sur since we just moved. It's a beautiful drive to the campground from Northern California. Michael and Punky, the campground hosts, were very kind and welcoming to all campers. They also gave handmade bracelets to all the small kids who went camping. The camping ground is close to beaches and trails. The restrooms were clean. The views from the campground were stunning, especially at sunset. We had a great time fishing and hiking around the area. We look forward to coming back soon.

Highly recommend this camp. The facilities are maintained extremely well, the guests are spaced out better than other spots I've been to, and the hospitality of the camp's hosts was next level. We pulled up after an exhausting day of traveling and hiking, and Punky and her husband Mike's great energy lifted us for the rest of the trip! Great spot...

The drive to the campground is very scenic. We dove from Bay area and Highway 1 was closed in parts and we took Cabrillo way and we enthralled with the beauty around. The host of the campground- both Punky and Michael were very welcoming. They helped us with a beautiful spot and Punky gifted a handmade bracelet to the kids in the group. The ocean is close by and we hiked a few miles around with vast breathtaking views. We had a lovely time. The washrooms were clean enough and taps had running water. A little heaven to enjoy and unwind.

I'd like to start this review by acknowledging I'm no Lackadaisical-Lisa when it comes to making camp plans with razor thin details....except for when I am.Did Michael and Punky Scruggs (Plaskett Creek Campground hosts) ever save me when I overlooked one very, tiny, detail of reserving a campsite for more than one night after driving +5 hours away to come and camp for a 2-night weekend? Yes. Yes, they did save me.Upon realizing that I had made a grave (let me tell you, GRAVE) error in campsite etiquette and trip coordination, Michael suggested my friend and I could still stay another night as I had so seemingly "planned," rather than turn us away. Michael and Punky graciously made room for my friend and me on an adjacent plot of land, something I've never experienced after making such a foolhardy Oopse. If you don't know about Highway 1's closure, go and self-educate! It's can be laborious to get to this campsite—by bicycle or motor vehicle!—especially when you're heading South and must make a detour. Suffice it to say, every bit of the drive and the trip was worth it to experience this campsite's location and the over-the-top hospitality of these amazing camp hosts.THANK YOU, camp hosts Michael and Punky, and thank you to the canine camp hosts, too!

This place is amazing! It has a beautiful beach just across the street. You can see beautiful sunsets from your campsite, isn’t that amazing? There are not many campsites in the area, so I’m grateful we got to spend some nights there.Make sure you buy *everything* you will need before arriving there since the closest supermarket is 45 min away. You also may want to fill up your tank if you don’t want to overpay for gas.Camp host was super friendly. The only downside I guess is that they didn’t have running water in the bathrooms lavatories. But still, 5 stars

Conveniently located next to Sand Dollar beach. My dog loved it. I stayed at site #7, the sound of the waves drowned out the generator from the school nearby. If you're a light sleeper, I would not book site #6 and the one next to it because those two are the closest to the school. The porta potty was clean when I was there. They have bag for your doggy if you forget. Check-in was smooth. Firewood is sold for $15 dollars a bundle. There is no drinking water so bring your own unless you want to pay for pricey water.

Painless online booking and check-in for experienced campers. Newcomers will learn easily enough by reading the check-in sign. Convenient location for PCH travelers. Some campsites have unique features not listed on website. Ours had a path to a large tree well that would make an excellent picnic spot or romantic hideaway in summer. Just don't touch the poison oak.Grounds are very clean - we struggled to find any trash to pick up when we packed up - but high-traffic areas have become trampled and muddy - trail improvements and signage is needed around central area to stop impatient desirepathwalkers. Proper bathrooms and showers could make one's stay much more pleasant. Only porta-potty was available when we stayed. We saw a cute black tomcat we hope is making the site managers very happy. We did not feed him and he moved along politely.

This campground is great for groups. Aka not really great for those looking for natures peace and quiet. It’s right on the highway. There’s a generator from the school next door running 24/7 and it’s all you can hear. Potable water was up and running this weekend but still no bathrooms, just port-a-potty’s. Sites 6, 7, 8 are all next to the bathrooms and camp host. The opposite side of the campground might be ok. The middle of the campground is all open, no privacy, so again great for groups. Sand Dollar Beach is a 5 min walk across the highway with good surfing and dogs allowed. Campfires are allowed but $15 a bundle, you can get some elsewhere first. No service on this stretch of the 1.

I can't express how wonderful this campsite was! The staff and host were very attentive and very friendly! The camp sites are perfect in size and all come with a grill and fire pit. Sand dollar beach is within 10-15 min walk and the scenery is being magical! They have have plenty of water locations on the camp site and 2 restroom sites with 4 stalls each. I'm looking forward for next year's trip and I highly recommend staying here! My camp site was 41!

beautiful campsite. very close to the beach & beach outlooks. bathrooms were clean but there was no water to wash your hands. a bundle of firewood was $15. beware there are skunks and raccoons that come by at night so make sure to clean everything up at night to avoid hungry animals rummaging through your camp!the female camp host was absolutely insufferable and the most rude person i’ve come across in years. you could tell she is truly miserable and she should not be working a job like this. people are on vacation enjoying nature and the way she treated us ruined a good portion of our day. honestly, she should be fired and work where she doesn’t have to deal with people because she so obviously hates everyone and her job. i do not recommend this campsite until someone else more pleasant replaces her.

The camp grounds are nice and relatively clean. During our stay (Mid Oct 22) the rest rooms were not working and thus the provided porta-potties - which I detest. That said, we stayed in a travel trailer in site 21 which was pretty close to Hiway 1 and occasionally you could hear vehicle traffic but it wasn't intrusive. I did hear the school generator but only when I left the camp sites and walked across the street to the go to the beach. The camp host was, I'd say, snippy but I ignored her for the most part. There is no cell phone service anywhere along this section the hiway, even in Gorda which, if you value your money, is a place you'll want to avoid as everything there is so over priced. And speaking of over priced - bring your own firewood and fill your tank before you enter this part of the hiway as both will cost you dearly. If you want to buy wood ($15 for 6 pieces of cedar that burns in 20 minutes) and gas, ($9.69 for unleaded regular in Gorda). Come prepared for these little annoyances and you'll have a very relaxing time.

Very loud industrial generator ran until 10:20pm. After a brief quiet period, a less noisy one was started and ran through the night, to be followed by restart of the loud one at 5:40am.Restrooms are closed and blocked by porta potties. Water taps have signs "water not suitable for drinking *and cooking* [stress mine]" - while less than a mile north, at the Forest Ranger Station no such restrictions are mentioned.A few years ago restrooms were still operational, water was to be conserved (makes sense). However, since then this campground (when used for real camping, not just a day use) in my opinion is one of the two worst in the Big Sur (between Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park and San Simeon).Very dissapointing for this beautiful stretch of the coast and visited by people from all over the world.

The park was easy to find. It is located right off of highway101. There is pavement all the way including in the park. Signage is good. Check in was efficient and friendly. The rules are fairly basic..Our site, 08, was a back in that was not quite long enough for our short 28 foot Coach and Towed. Our two door Wrangler had to stick out onto the street a bit. Services were non existent. Even the water was not usable as the system was contaminated. Distancing is reasonable for a State Park. Each site has a table and a fire pit that were NOT conveniently located. Our site was flat but sloped to the rear. We did not use the washrooms as they were closed due to the contaminated water supply. This park is in serious need of upgrading. The interior roads had many very deep pot holes with some deep enough to damage your vehicle and large areas where the pavement have broken away completely. Very few sites are level and very few are long enough to fit a motorhome with a towed. This park appears to have been built and designed for the 1950s and little or no improvements have been made since. There is a pathway across the highway and down the road that will take you to the beautiful beach. Be aware, to get there, one must make use a 100 step staircase down and again on the way back. This and the fact that the park is reasonably located, are the only redeeming features. The camp host will sell you a very small bundle of fire wood for $15.00 and five gallons of water for $5.00 (or a quart for a dollar). We found this park to be very poorly run. The camp host was hardly visible until it was time to sell firewood. We saw no effort made to maintain the park in any way. They were not knowledgeable about the local area. When asked where one could fill our tank with fresh water and dump our grey and black tanks we were told that a location was not known. We paid $35.00 per night and we feel we received very poor value. Because of the lack of water and sanitary services, this park should have been closed or at least the price reduced accordingly. We doubt if we will be back again.

AVOID CAMPSITES 6, 7 AND 8.My wife and I managed to make a reservation for four nights and were so excited to make the trip from San Diego. We arrived the afternoon of May 2 and was greeted by the camp host. After we set up our tent, we noticed a continuous noise coming from the adjacent property that was part of park's administration. It sounded like a running generator.Campground policy regarding generators is clear...you can only operate from 10 am to 6 pm. We assumed that the generator will shutoff soon after 6 pm. IT DID NOT! In fact, it was running whole night until early hours of morning around 5:30 am when it went off because it ran out of gas. About an hour later, the generator up and running again. When we asked the host about the generator, she simply said, there is nothing she can do about and that park is working on an alternative plan but she didn't know when "the alternative plan" will take place. The campground was full and she did not offer to move us to a new location. So, we had to live with a running generator for four nights. My wife ended up taking four sleeping pills every night to get a shuteye but they hardly worked. We complained to a replacement host and she offered to move us to the group campsite area that was closed to the public and it was in a remote part of the park with no-one around. My wife didn't feel comfortable with that option. My problem isn't that they need a running generator for their administrative purposes. My beef is with the park management who needs to inform visitors who are trying to reserve a site about particular issues in regards to specific campsites or the park itself. They should note on the web site that sites 6,7 and 8 have ongoing generator noise.Furthermore, the camp website talks about bathroom sinks with running water. We'll, that's not true either. There are sinks but no running water. Infant, according to the host, there hasn't been a running water for nearly a year. There are water spigots near campsites but not inside bathrooms. We did receive a voicemail from the Park CEO which blamed the park staff for violating the generator operation hours. Not sure who to believe. This is a beautiful campground and I still recommend it. It just needs better management.

Beautiful campground. Open spacious, clean restrooms. Facuets were closed in restrooms but water spouts were open around the camp grounds. Firewood available at host site. It's dewy in the morning so if you don't want your things wet when you wake up keep them inside and not on tables. RIP cooler stickers.

Beautiful forest service park. Well space sites. Lots of open area. Access to small trails and beach right across the street. Several sites are large enough and level enough for a big rig. Our 37ft class a fit in 16 but the car did not. Even towed cars are $10 a night extra. Senior pass discount apply. The park is kept very neat and landscaped. The camp host is active, informed, and helpful. 4 stars because all the bathroom sinks are disabled and the leash regulations are not enforced. Most dogs were roaming free around the park.

Great location directly across from Sand Dollar Beach. Plenty of shade under large trees in most every campsite. Definitely stock up on gas, water and firewood in town before heading in, options are limited around the camp. Camp host Susan was one the most helpful I have ever met. She made sure we got taken care of and keeps the place immaculate. She makes this camp something very special. One of the best pay sites in Big Sur, hit it up👍👍👍.

Quiet, beautiful, amazing. Tent sites were nice. Many sites tight for a travel trailer over 20ft just due to the angles and you might drag a hitch. Beautiful beach across the street but there are tons of stairs. Sunsets amazing, nice hike out the back of the camp goes up! Access from south with 24 ft travel trailer was tight but I think it could be worse from north.

May 2022:We spent 2 nights in Plaskett, the first was site #035 that we reserved in advance and then the 2nd night moved to site #022 for the first come first serve. The park was easy to find, even at night (JUST MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD THE MAP BEFORE YOU LEAVE SANTA CRUZ AREA (if heading south) BECAUSE THERE'S ZERO RECEPTION!). Pavement all the way around the park (some repairs needed, but nothing inadequate for our truck with truck camper. Good signage, so was easy to find our location...all except the bathroom. Pulling in at night (was pitch-black) and walked all over looking for the bathroom that was right by our campsite! 😜🤷‍♀️. Late arrival meant we had to check-in the next morning as we went to try to get a FCFS 2nd night after 11am. At first, Adri was not very friendly starting with "I didn't check you in last night." When we explained we arrived late, she responded curtly "Last name?" Once we established we had a reservation, she eventually became more friendly and told us site #22 was available, but not very friendly or helpful. However on future encounters, she seemed much lighter and friendly. There was an unpleasant interaction with a fellow camper starting yelling profanities as loud as he could for 30ish min, and she came around and apologized for observing that interaction and introduced her dogs to my kids.Note: You do have to buy the $15 small bundle of wood.No water in the restrooms so plan accordingly, but toilets do flush but not all restrooms were unlocked and available. Several times were there long lines waiting to go. Please unlock all of the restrooms.Great listening to the sound of the waves! Important to note that to get to the beach, you have to go down a rope to get to the gorgeous beach so we just explored above on top of the cliffs. While $35/night is pretty standard, especially for Big Sur, I do think the lack of available water warranted a slightly cheaper price...but is Big Sur! Other campgrounds have zero water, so there's that...Feb. 2022:We spent 2 nights in site #039. - Location was good with an easy walk to Sand Dollar Beach and quick access to other hiking spots in the lower portion of Big Sur- Hosts were polite and friendly. They sell dry firewood. Small bundle = $8. We needed two bundles for a small fire.- Bathrooms were clean when the weekend started; not so much as the weekend wore on. There were sufficient numbers of facilities for the campers. Flush toilets but no water available at bathroom sink. Water available at spigots in the campground.- We were in Site 37- not recommended. Grassy but little privacy as everyone from the outer loop walks through your campsite rather than using the path to access the bathroom.-Road noise is audible but not obnoxious, background during the day and there aren't many cars driving Route 1 at night.-Dog friendly campground. We didn't see any dog waste but inconsiderate people let their animals roam. Hence our tent was marked and now requires significant remedial effort before it can be used again.-During our stay it was extremely noisy with bongo-type drums playing till around midnight in the group campsite. The camper next door started their diesel generator at 617am. The next evening was much more pleasant as the campground host addressed the numerous complaints about the noise.

It’s a Beautiful campground and close to the beach; however, there was an extremely rude employee (DANA) that worked at campsite that was overcharging people that reservations and for parking claiming that original reservations were lost. At one point she started screaming at a camper that asked for a refund money back that she had overcharged. So, if you visit, please make sure you confirm all your information and have a printout of it.

Campground is nice in a beautiful location, but you may not have water. The campground host Dara was extremely rude. The map for the campground did not have all the site numbers on it and the spaces weren't in an obvious order when we drove through. Host Dara was sitting in front of her trailer on duty and said she was busy and couldn't tell me where the space was located. Fortunately, a ranger saw this happen and helped us. She was angry with him then too. She shouldn't be in a job working with the public.
