We went to the restaurant, not the rooms, so this review is focused on the restaurant experience, which was very good. Food was probably a four star level, but delicious. Really liked the French Dip, crispy tater tots, and homestyle fried chicken sandwich. What made this place great is the outdoor patio where it felt like you were sitting in a forest of trees. Good service, too!

We stayed in one of their motel rooms- for the price, quality is just not there. The rooms themselves are fine, but the walls are PAPER thin. Could hear every word of just basic conversation going on in the rooms on either side of us. Like the worst I have ever experienced in a hotel. Not to mention on Saturday nights they blast club music from the restaurant area. Overall just not the quiet retreat we were looking for- also no fridges or microwaves in the rooms. Location is good as a jumping off point for exploring the Big Sur area.

Attendant was friendly, location beautiful and even his dog was cute.BUT, I had to listen to annoying Mexican music from about 9pm to about 4:30am. I don't care if it's employees or neighbors.People go to places like this and pay$$$ to hear nature, be in silence, not to feel like they are back in the city.

Location is the best thing about this campground but there was tons of other options along the same road. I travel full time in my travel trailer and have never been to a place that penny pinches you as badly as this one. Over $100 a night for NOT full hook up. $20 to dump, $3.50 to have a shower, $5 per dog per day (even though I'm in my own trailer?) And any more than 2 people on one site and it's $5 per person, per day. It's really gross how they charge you at this place. also it doesn't say this anywhere on the site but if you're over 22 foot trailer, you're going to have a hell of time parking and getting in and out of this place. The driveway is extremely narrow and steap. I wouldn't stay again and I would recommend to check out the multiple other options for big Sur.

We have been at Fernwood with our Rental RV in Summer 2023, spot 13, right at the River. The place is absolutely lovely, unser Redwood trees, small River. The staff is very nice, bathrooms very clean. The small Shop has everything you need, from Merch to Coffee to fresh groceries to icecream to Camping utilities. This spot has been our most remembered RV spot in our US Trip and we Love to come back in the future.Tip: Enjoy the great fries at the Restaurant Outdoor seatings at the evenings, all people meet there and it feels like Family, while you are basically sitting between the Redwood trees. Loved it!

This was the most delightful surprise of our California vacation. I booked a one night stay for our family of four based on location, price, and recommendations. That said, I really didn't know how incredible the environment of this simple motel room would be. Our room B was great; recently renovated bathroom and a separate nook with a bed for the kids. (I actually ended up sleeping in this room because the master bed was too soft for my back, and the only reason I don't have 5 stars across the board.)We really enjoyed being in the motel but having access to the campground and the State Park adjoining the property. The restaurant on site was a magical surprise. Please ask to sit out back as the sun starts to set. The twinkling lights among the redwoods is just incredible, and it was so delightful to hear the sounds of the campground below. The general store was well appointed with camping needs as well as a cute ice cream and coffee shop.Walkability: Walkable to the adjacent state park

Staying in one of the hot tub rooms is a treat. Food is tasty. The wee shop has excellent variety. Beautiful setting.

If you want to be treated very badly by an entitled teenage staff that’s your place to be. Writing Unfriendly would be an understatement, condescending is the more appropriate term.I am sure the campground is nice but the hotel is not worth the money at all. It’s extreemly loud and not comfortable.

We stayed in the Campground. It's truly and nice place. But if your looking for a nice quite getaway, this is not the place. It's very family friendly and that can be both a good or bad thing depending on the experience your looking for. The amenities are great. A good way to open up the world of camping to a first timer. The few knocks I have are for the price and the fact that we saw people fishing ( which I do often and love). The issue is lot of young children playing bare foot and that the trout species found in this river is endangered, catch and release may be legal (idk the rules for this area) but watching multi families walk away with them is sad to see. Then again I may be completely uneducated in that. Just saying that I wish they had more obvious rules stated about it around camp.

Super fun location for family with kids. The river is swimable, so rafts & floaties are a must. The bathrooms are cleaned everyday & come equipped with free showers. There is also a pay shower near the front of the campground and a pay laundromat and volleyball court near the back of the campground. There are some wildlife that live the area, so keep your food stored and be respectful. 😎

What a hidden gem in big sur! Loved staying in the tent cabin...very clean, the mattress or sleeping pad was incredibly comfortable and staff was pretty nice (no outlets or lights in the tent cabin, bring your power bank or flashlights). The fire pits were good and the picnic tables seat 8 people. There are water faucets right next to every tent cabin.... The restrooms were cleaned every afternoon and were very well maintained (bring quarters for the showers or if you walk into the showers in the tent areas across the street, the showers are free). The dish washing area is also in the tent camping area bathroom. There is a general store that you can climb through stairs by the entrance that pretty much has everything including ice ($4 for a 5 lb bag).Things that could be better:-no stairs to climb down from the tent cabins to the river... had to somewhat crawl down or rappel down.-some tent cabins don't have a safety barrier so a careless kid (or drunk adult) can easily fall down to the river area, though some tent cabins did have a wood barrier/fence.-a 2nd dish washing area desperately needs to be built or added in the tent cabin / RV campsite areas.Rooms: Tent cabins were clean and very comfortable. No power outlets.Nearby activities: Partington Cove is a must, easy hike, 20 minutes south of here. The river water is a little cold, but you get used to it.Safety: Super safe, did see a fox across the street, but the fox didn't cross into the tent cabin area.Food & drinks: Restaurant and bar up the stairs by the entrance

Big Sur is a special beautiful place for me. I’ve loved coming here over the years. I had an unfortunate experience at the Fernwood Bar and Grill on my birthday. I left a one star review under my name Bob A. on Yelp that was too long to leave here. Overall the staff were friendly with the exception of one woman who denied me entrance because I encouraged a recent high school grad who worked there to continue his studies in hospitality to further his career. I work in education as a college and career access provider and offered my business card to access resources we provide. The next day I was denied entrance because this woman felt I should not be encouraging the you g man because she saw it as condescending. He had been in a hospitality program at College of Monterey Bay so his efforts were only being encouraged. It’s sad to see how her own fragility can impact access for people like me and my family as well as others with potential to achieve more.

I absolutely LOVE this campground. We’ve stayed in one the tent cabins and a tent spot (#00). Both were an awesome experience. The restaurant is also very good! The bar tender Blake was very friendly and poured great drinks! I’m looking forward to our next trip!

My wife and I stayed in one of the rooms here about 10 years ago. That was great. This time we have 2 kids and a trailer, so we stayed in the RV part of the campground below the rooms.Site was great. Right on the river, with power and water hookups. Very quiet campground on the RV side (tent area across the river was fairly noisy when we explored that area).A bit challenging to get the trailer in, but some sites seem easier than others. We were in site 3. Easy staircase access to the store and restaurant above. Only a mile or so away from Pfeiffer State Park.

We choose this place by location and that is the prime advantage. The rooms are solid 2 star level without a fridge but you pay $250+ per night. Comfy beds, but we couldn't really control our heating, so it was very hot throughout the night, but better than freezing. The real downside are the folks leaving the barwhen it closes making noise for over an hour around midnight. Those are people that don't stay there but just enjoy the good restaurant and bar (I wrote a seperate review on that) disturbing folks that sleep there.

We booked a motel room for a night that had a hot water tub. The room was neat. Gives you a feeling of camping with fewer amenities. The Hassel was there is no board as to how to check-in. My husband had to call and the lady said we have to do the checking in the campground When we reached there she said no we will have to do our checking in the store. It was kind of confusingWe had one night stay at Fernwood. They have a store and a restaurant. The restaurant host trivia night for their guest. The restaurant has a reasonable food price. Ordered a chicken taco and hummus with pita breadRooms: They have motel-style rooms, campgrounds, and a tentWalkability: There is a trail for a walk. Mostly good in the morning as it gets pitch dark at night so not recommendedFood & drinks: They have a restaurant which serve limited menu options

Well maintained campsite easily accessible just off highway 1, with good facilities. Beautiful views of mountains and the big sur river flowing through the site, while camping in redwoods. The restaurant and shop was super convenient - this was a perfect spot for us as a pre-backpacking-into-the-wilderness stay (and much welcomed post-backpacking food source a few days later). Saw lots of families taking advantage for the whole weekend as car camping too.

Nice RV park tucked below the highway, alongside beautiful creek. Moderate tree cover.High turnover facility so a fair bit of traffic between noon and 8pm. Lots of families with children. Prime sites along the river are inundated with families looking to enjoy the swimming hole. If you're looking for something quieter, consider the 4 sites south of the bridge.Wifi was unusable. Starlink acquisition is spotty. The convenience store was well stocked and moderately priced.

Awesome experience. The staff is helpful, from checking once there, to the restaurant or general store near camp. Definitely a good camp to take your kids. Did some water rafting, hill climbing, badminton and exploring. One of the best camp experiences ever. Restrooms and showers are super clean for it to be a camp. They have washers and dryers AND a outside sink to wash dishes. We loved it!

Just finished up a 2 night stay in the tent cabins in Early October. the weather was was perfect. a little chilly before dawn. While I loved falling asleep on the very hard and firm beds in the tent cabins, I really felt it the next morning in my lower back. Quiet for the most part. I was surprised by the one toilet and one urinal for one side of the campground. Luckily there was never a wait but I was also there midweek. that might be an issue in busier times. The resort is really centrally located for the area. No bugs in the campgrounds but definitely lots of bugs in the state park up the road.
