I saw some mixed reviews of Big Sur Lodge but decided to book it anyway and I was very pleasantly surprised. The location can't be beat. There are multiple hiking trails from the property and several others close by.Our Queen room with refrigerator and fireplace was spacious, clean, and had enough kitchen utensils to cook at the cottage (#2). The walls are paper thin but that didn't deter from our visit. Moreover, the daily delivery of fire wood was much appreciated. We did have one meal at the restaurant which we enjoyed. Finally, we were able to get some wifi and receive text messages.I will definitely stay here on my next visit to Big Sur.

2 stars for location. That’s it. Front desk attendants were unhelpful and rude. We showed up at 1 pm to check if, by any chance, our room was ready. It wasn’t (no problem), so we hiked through nearby parks and came back at 4 pm. Room still wasn’t ready. Waited until 4:30 pm and room still wasn’t ready. Went up the hill to see the rooms and were disappointed. Throughout this experience the front desk staff were challenging. We felt so uncomfortable and disappointed we forfeited our room. That’s right, we couldn’t get any money back due to their cancellation policy but decided to keep driving and find a different place for the night. You win some and you lose some… this one was worth losing.

We got married at the Big Sur Lodge on 10/6. It was a magical location to get married under the redwood trees along the Big Sur River. Paul Amend of Big Sur Lodge made sure our day went smooth. He checked on us regularly during our weekend stay. The food was amazing for our wedding dinner. Our family raved about this as well. I would highly recommend the Big Sur Lodge for a wedding or event.

Great location within Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park and begin of two great hiking trails (less than 5 miles loop or return). More state parks are close by. The cabin provided fast and sufficient heating. We bought a bagel toaster and used the refrigerator for milk and cheese. So, we could prepare our own breakfast. Once we tried out the restaurant. The burger was cold and we left. Unfortunately, the three large cabins 10, 11, and 12 are not standing separately but share walls. Thus, neighbor noise in the early morning disturbed our sleep. The views are marvelous since you see many trees, especially Redwoods which I like very much. I think I would like to come back. Please stay on the trail and obey rules and regulations. Make it possible to return and see the natural beauty again - untouched.

Stayed in a cabin next to a giant 100 foot Redwood tree. Hike to the waterfall is great about 2 miles round trip. Almost no Internet / cell service except late at night / early morning. It's off season so not crowded at all. There's a restaurant and down the hwy 1 about a mile a couple of diners. Great place for family and/or to decompress. Walk around surrounded by trees as much as 250 feet and some as old as 2500 years - amazing place.

Run away this is one of the most unorganized places to be at (formal employee) the GM is never on property, he doesn't care about people, expecially his employees, the Housekeeping Manager has No real experience, Veronica is her name, she is a Racist, shows favorites to Spanish speaking people, and is always on the other housekeeping staff. She has no clue how to run a department.the Restraunt on property has the worest food you could ever order, cooks have little to know experience at all, very high priced food. The rooms are run down, old, and not in good working order,

A lot of cabins in the area are right next to the road - which seems to always be busy and buzzing. The rooms at Big Sur Lodge, which are two or more connected units in cabins, are up the hill and tucked away from the road.We stayed in the Deluxe King. Large and nicely decorated with a porch in the back right under the redwoods. Stellar jays come begging for food - and deer roam the grounds.Overall a very nice room. The large skylight in the middle of the room cannot be covered, so it gets very bright on an early summer morning. No cleaning or housekeeping during four nights stay.We didn’t try the restaurant due to bad reviews. We saw almost no one dining there during our stay. For an amazing outdoor lunch with views of the cliffs go to Nepenthe 10 minutes down the road.Staying four nights you have lots of time to explore Big Sur and the trails surrounding the property, but two of the three state parks included in the stay were closed during our visit.

Great stay. Beds were comfy and internet wasn’t too bad😁 the room was good but at night it would get hot and felt humid and also the floors were a bit dirty with some trash left by the people before us. The cafe in the lodge was okay but the cookies and other bakery food was eh not too good and overpriced. The hiking trails were good and was a fun experience when I went to the waterfall. Overall a good stay👍🏽

We were extremely disappointed in our multi day stay here. When we opened the door to the room we were greeted with a very distinct moldy and mildew odor, which necessitated leaving windows open 24/7 the entire stay. The room was dirty, including carpet which had not been vacuumed. Given what we paid for this stay, the lack of amenities were unbelievable— no internet, Wi-Fi, cell service, television or housekeeping (even with a 4 night stay). The front desk wouldn’t even give us a few additional plastic drinking cups. To be fair, there was a deck of cards and an ice machine 100 yds away. Really felt ripped off by this terrible lodging experience.

This place is magical. We've stayed here twice. The first time was excellent. They upgraded our room for free. Location 10/10. Scenery 10/10.We loved it so much that we decided to make it our home base for our wedding 2 years later. The day we had our wedding tragedy struck, (for us) The whole mountain lost power from 9-5... The time at which my wife was supposed to get ready with hair/makeup and photography folks at the lodge when there was no power to get ready.Upset, I called and talked to Garret, the front desk manager. He worked with us to provide extension cords to the community center/pool area that still has generator power so my wife could continue her big day getting pampered before our wedding. Not only that, Gerret comped the rooms for ourselves and the photographer's room we were paying for.We made lemons out of lemonade and the day was able to go on as planned. While not necessary, I sincerely appreciate Garret and the Lodge for making things right as best they could even though all of Big Sur's power going out was outside of there control. We'll be back annually. The people that make this place happen are 10/10.-Jon

Conveniently located Lodge with local trails to walk on. Staff were very friendly and didn't mind that we kept bothering them.Restaurant food was very tasty, if a bit expensive,Got a little shocked by the lack of WiFi as I'm not sure if that's listed in the website, but quick to adapt to it and take in the surroundings instead. Would recommend if in the area.

We stayed in a Queen Kitchenette with a pullout sofa for one of us. The bed in the bedroom was tolerable, and the pullout was extremely old, slumpy and soiled. The room was clean, however there was very strong smell of mold everywhere in the unit. We brought an air purifier with us, as it is not unusual for facilities in Northern CA to have mold or mildew, and were grateful to have it full blast in the bedroom at night. (when we didn't use it full blast the first night, we both woke up with headaches and congestion.)We left the air purifier on in the living area all day when we were out to help with odor. All of our clothing smells of the mold now that we are home, and we had to run it through the wash twice. If you aren't sensitive to mold or mildew, this might not be an issue for you.The staff were very pleasant, helpful with local information, and we were pleasantly surprised at the delicious dinner we had in the restaurant. Location cannot be beat--walk out your door to beautiful hiking, the sounds of many different birds, and close to other parks and wildlife areas as well.We are sad that we won't be able to stay here again because of the mold situation.

Location, lodging, staff and the park itself were all great. However, the Homestead Restaurant in the lodge was a real disappointment. The Veggie Burger was literally inedible. It was so hard it could not even be cut with a knife. The server kindly took it back and we got the vegetable soup instead. It was OK, but looked and tasted like canned soup (and may have been for all we know). Not a good experience. Based on how empty the dining room was, others must feel the same way. Seems like they are missing an opportunity.

We stayed here for my niece's wedding. We stayed over Mother's day weekend and were excited about the Mother's day brunch. We were told it was a $50 buffet. There were only 6 items for the buffet and drinks were not included. The room was $350 a night and was not the best for that price. I have stayed in Motel 6s that were better and cheaper in pretty shady areas. We were told there would be a microwave and fridge in the room, however there was no microwave and the fridge was not working correctly. The room smelled of mildew and it clung to all of our clothes. It was not pleasant to go to an upscale wedding smelling of mildew. You are paying for the location not the place but I feel that we probably could have gotten an AirBnB or VRBO for the same if not cheaper and it would have been better.

It felt good to be in the park, to be so neat the big trees, to be able to hike from our room. And the room was fine with a comfortable bed, a skylight to see the stars and birds flying by, a little back deck. I was a happy camper! And the restaurant was really good too. The only unfortunate thing was that the conditioner/soap dispensers in the shower were empty, so that was disappointing.

Beautiful lodge in a beautiful location! Very nice and accommodating staff. We had cell service and were able to call for extra blankets and pillows and they were delivered right to our room with a huge smile. Everyone made us feel so welcome. The food was great. The room was clean and was set up with a board game for family time. No need for wifi as my cell phone worked just fine. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the bed was a little too firm for me. If they would just upgrade the bed, it would be a 5 star experience!

Not impressed, all the staff at this Lodge stays out drinking all night and then drives back early in the morning while still wasted... Be careful here on the roads or even in the parking lot at night/early in the morning.

Went here to apply for employment, because my resume said 3-4 months but I mentioned 6 or more. I was informed “something” came up on my clean record as to why I can’t be hired. A background check normally takes 3-5 days, Big Waste of Time Lodge… 16 hours later. The Redwood Trees here are as tall as Vermont pine trees just with semi larger trunks. They aren’t very big.The entire area of Big Sur was a waste of time and energy, a great experience to NEVER travel back to this place!Friendly onsite staff, employees willing to help, but the actual behind the scenes staff are lame.About due time for a swap out and rehire of people who are wanting to change people’s lives.Apparently it takes 3-4 months to train a person to “wash dishes”Aside from that, if you happen to find yourself in this solid wasteland, stop at the River Inn. The staff here make up for the entire place as a whole!

They advertise free wifi, but this is not true for campers. Maybe for guests, but just FYI: if ur staying at the campgrounds hoping to get in their wifi for work, don't.

It was fine staying here, good beds and clean, nice to wake up in the middle of the woods. The map they give you for the hikes is terrible, just use the maps on the signs or download before you get there. I was prepared to be a little more “wowed” but the whole experience but I wasn’t. Nothing super bad about it just not a WOW at all.Rooms don’t have fridge or microwave, which was disappointing since it made us forced to resort to spending a LOT of money at the lodge. Food, coffee, muffins, ice cream at the lodge all great just extremely extremely expensive. The staff is SO FRIENDLY and welcoming.

I stopped by to take a rest after the trail and drank a cup of coffee. There was a Fire place in the place used as Hotel lobby so the atmosphere was even better and cozy. And have restaurant and gift shop that can get souvenirs of Big SurPet friendly place ,,,

Everything about this place was great. The staff were lovely, the gift shop was well priced and the lodge was fantastic. There's no cell reception here and no free WiFi (which I loved!) And each room has a board game in it, which you're encouraged to play. The lodge itself was so cosy and lovely I'd love to come back. There are wild turkeys on the property and they took a disliking to me.... much to my terror. The booking came with a free day pass to the near by car parts to some of the Pfeiffer attractions and we had such a great couple of days here

I had a booking that I was excited about but unfortunately the weekend ended up having a forecast for heavy rain. They made an exception to their cancellation policy and allowed me to cancel for free. They deserve a 5-star for their understanding and I will be confident booking here in the future knowing they are so considerate of their guests.
