Heard this was one of the premiere spots to get sandwiches and food in general at Big Sur. The sandwich was huge and went way above expectations. I ordered a Turkey Sandwich with Swirled Rye bread and it had mayonnaise, dijon mustard, lettuce and tomato. We also ordered a Tuna Salad sandwich with sourdough and it also had mayonnaise, dijon mustard, lettuce and tomato. Nice sandwiches to enjoy the amazing scenery of Big Sur.

I had heard that the Big Sur Deli was the place to stop for a hearty meal on cold mornings and I was not disappointed. I was slightly late to breakfast but they whipped me up a breakfast burrito designed for a king (or at least a prince who was down on his luck). I also sampled a delectable double chocolate muffin that I washed down with some chocolate milk for good measure. There were some other options under glass that looked rather good but that will have to wait for another pass. The staff were very kind and knew what they were doing. The Deli itself has some great magnets as well and is attached to the a tasting room where you can sample local beers and wines. I bought a sampling of IPA’s to try while sitting around the fire with/and for my friends, their selection was large and varied. I highly suggest grabbing a post card and utilizing the Big Sur Post Office located next store. It’s a classy move and it costs under a dollar to make someone’s day. I will definitely be stopping at the Big Sur Deli on my next ride through.

I stopped in a little before the taproom opened so I grabbed a sandwich ($10), the up in smoke and a craft beer and had a picnic in Big Sur State Park. The sandwich was amazing nd filling. They also have a great craft beer selection in their coolers. Really hit the spot and a perfect stop after some hiking or a day driving down Highway 1.

Outstanding deli sandwiches! Such great bread for the rolls and generous portions of tasty fillings. The prices are quite reasonable for the quality.

The deli and taphouse have a variety of vegan & vegetarian food options to choose from.We tried enchiladas for dinner and plant based chorizo burrito for breakfast. Both were delicious. The portion size is quite large.Their little general store has souvenirs, basic grocery and camp supplies.

Stopped in for a quick bite while exploring Big Sur. Sandwiches were fantastic!! Not sure of the young man's name that was working Monday, October 30, at about 5pm, but he made us some great sandwiches and he was fast and courteous. Will definitely be back!!

Just grabbed a couple coffees and sandwiches after a long day hiking, great little store with no tourist, crazy inflated prices. Do recommend

Great place to stop when in Big Sur! I got a sweatshirt and some magnets for my family, along with some trail snacks. Good selection and parking too.

Stopped in here during our second visit to Big Sur and were so glad we did. We wanted something quick, delicious so we could continue enjoying the scenery instead of waiting in a long line at another place like Nepenthe or Big Sur Bakery.I highly recommend the Hipster sandwich. The hippie was just okay.

Located in beautiful Big Sur California, this place is gorgeous! Met and talked with many pleasant people here, all of them fellow travelers. Unfortunately the buck stops there. The workers there have major attitude issues and lack basic common sense. I walked in wearing my full helmet with the clear visor up, and was told I couldn't be served unless I had a facemask! Thinking this must obviously be a joke, I paid it no heed. The big lady working there then told me I must "leave the property unless you come back with a mask". Nevermind the fact that my ENTIRE HEAD is covered or the fact that you don't need a mask outdoors. Smh, avoid this place if you can. Shame to ruin such a beautiful spot

If you are tired of overpriced food choices in Big Sur, maybe this is a good place to give a try. This is just a deli with a few sandwich options. If you want to take a sandwich or two go along with some chips for any long hikes, I'd definitely recommend this place as the price is very reasonable. (Well, if you have been to other restaurants around this area, you will feel much more reasonable than you'd normally think...)Sandwiches are decent, but again nothing too special about those sandwiches. Price ranged from $10 to $13 per sandwich.Another positive aspect of this place is that it sells small groceries. You can think of this place like as a small convienence store attached to a gas station. It generally has things you'd typically find at a gas station store.Considerations:- If you are looking for a sandwich to take out and for your hikings, I'd strongly recommend making a stop at this place.

10/06/2021 I was looking for a place that was open and had hot coffee. I stopped at Big Sur Deli and had the most delicious cup of coffee. My small coffee was $2.25. Behind the counter, they were making fresh sandwiches priced at $8.99-$9.99. There were fresh muffins and some pastries too for purchase next to the coffee station. An easy stop in the early morning.

Our experience at the Big Sur Deli was nothing but delightful. Our sandwiches were top notch and the service was exceptional. Only thing that was off about this place was the employees they weren’t very personable and the security guard out front was weird. Overall, their food and service was great.

Good deli food. We ordered some hot sandwitches and those were fresh. We also bought empanadas and it was hot and good too. They have beer and cold wine. Its a busy place at the lunch time. But they gave us the food within 15 mins. Staff was friendly.

So many great foods unique to this store, I have personally driven an hour down to this place to enjoy the beautiful drive down the PCH and to grab some Big Sur Hipster sandwiches and tamales.

The grocery store is small but super impressive with the selection of food and beverages. I found some super unique beers (which you can purchase by the can) and they had lots of healthier food options. The taproom and restaurant had awesome deals and really good food. I enjoyed the fact that they were vegan/gluten free friendly and had a choice of indoor/outdoor seating.

Highway 1 to reopen July 20, 2018. Looking forward to easy driving to everything in Big Sur, not looking forward to the loss of tranquility that came with the road closure.July 16, 2017 : to get here you have to hike around the bridge taken out due to spring rains. The tap room is an excellent place for an afternoon with tacos and beer on tap. Tho there is the hike back.

I’ve traveled extensively across the United States. I’m a big fan of a good ole fashion corn dog. This establishment has one of the best corn dogs I’ve ever had. It was so delicious that it didn’t even require ketchup. The sandwiches, coffee, everything was good ... but the corn dog is an absolute must.

Should avoid. Staff, especially the "Security" employee was extremely rude and condescending. They are more interested with the competition with the nearby bakery and parking issues than the are with helping customers. They have some things to work out, apparently.

Avoid the next door Big Sur bakery (it is wildly overpriced) and go here instead! Very friendly staff, reasonably priced, wide range of products, and tasty sandwiches.

A quaint little grocery store and sandwich shop combination. One of the few places you'll be able to grab a sandwich in the Big Sur area. You can either choose from a pre-made sandwich or have a custom one made for you while you wait. The only seating is next door at the Big Sur Taphouse which has an interesting clientele.

We were camping at the Riverside Cabins just down the hill and I asked my friend to “surprise me” with something from the Big Sur Deli as I kept an eye on our campsite fire. I can’t say I ever imagined eating a riverside corn dog at 9 am amongst the redwoods as I pondered life’s beauty, but sure enough that’s what was the scene that followed my good friend’s return to the campsite. The corn dog is the reason for my 5 star rating (id give it more stars if I could): enough flop to slap my cheeks, yet enough structure to stay glued to that stick; flavor filled hot dog with moist corn surrounding, yet it kept its shape as you ate it; humbling in size, yet affordable. Truly a must-go stop if your a foodie who finds yourself in Big Sur.

Foreigners be aware of using your foreign card here. There machine will decline your card making you go to the ATM in the store costing you a $3 transfer fee. Make sure to ask for the 2nd machine to pay on card.

If I could leave 0 stars I would. We were here for a week and this is by far the worst service I encountered our entire trip. The security guard who assists with parking was incredibly rude. He actually questioned how handicap someone was when they parked in a handicap spot even with the permit displayed. Those working inside were almost as bad completely ignoring customers.

One of the only delis on Highway 1 in Big Sur and sadly disappointing. My friend and I split the roasted turkey sandwich with chips and drinks on the side. Oy vey, the turkey was so dry even with extra mayo and mustard. What was worse was that the bread kept falling apart, making it unedible altogether. A waste of 9 dollars.Just like everything in this area, overpriced and underdelivered. You'll find your fair share of chips and snacks and drinks here to stock up on, but be very wary of the price. My recommendation? Be sure to pack all your food and snacks before heading here!
