I’m giving this place one star. The male staff there are very rude and condescending. They are NOT!!! I repeat NOT CUSTOMER SERVICE SAVY!!!. I’m not really sure why people with jobs think they can act however they want to certain individuals. This is going to stop immediately. I am so sick and tired of business owners being rude because of their own entitlement. If you own a business ACT RIGHT TO EVERYONE!!!!! Or you will see the backlash. Trust me.

I had a great experience here getting my first bird, Bean(hand-fed budgie)! The staff were very polite and knowledgeable, and stayed to answer all our questions while there about being a first-time bird owner. Bean came home with us healthy and is now a tame, happy and healthy bird that has plenty of enrichment and has been with me for 7 months now! The place itself was very organized and all the birds there seemed happy and taken good care of. I do plan on going back to get Bean a friend, and I am confident that I will again have a pleasant experience. 10/10 recommend!

This is a great place for Birds and Bird Supplies.In late 2014 we purchased our Mealy Amazon, he was 3 months old and just weaned from hand feeding.He is an extremely energetic bird that loves flying and is always the life of the party.Of course Emerald is like a child, if you don't hear him, you had better find out what he is into.When spotting children playing from his perch in the front window, loves to say and repeat OMG.

Seven years ago we had our very first bird picked from the store. Four months later we got our second bird from there too.. Now we have nine birds' family with us. Dad bird and mom bird with seven their baby birds are happily living together with us. We go to the Basic Bird store for bird food and toys often since our birds love everything from there. When we travel, we let our birds hotel in the store with the good care from people working there. Love our birds and love the store too. The owner Claudia is a wonderful person who loves birds 🐦 ❤ 💕.

I visited Your Basic Bird in December 2018. The customer service was quite good and they have a nice variety of supplies. The bird cages were filthy. The cages were too small for the Macaws and the African Greys. The owner is very nice and professional. She has a vast knowledge, but I couldn't focus on the information she gave me because of the lack of cleanliness and unsanitary conditions of the cages. Maybe, she needed to hire more employees to clean the cages? There was an Eclectus sitting in its own urine. There was a Macaw who had plucked itself bald. I hope the store has improved since 2018.

I have been a customer of Your Basic Bird for decades. There aren't many of this exotic bird stores left, but such stores are so much better than the big pet store chains! This store has a great selection of birds of all sizes and varieties. The owner, Claudia, is very knowledgeable about companion birds. It's clear that Claudia really cares about companion birds, and she will not sell a bird if she doesn't think it's going to a good home.If you are thinking about getting a parrot or smaller companion bird, I recommend that you talk to her. She will try to influence your decision; she will give you facts based on her wealth of experience. The store also has a great selection of bird food; pellets, treats, and seed mixes at competitive prices. As well as bird cages and equipment. They offer grooming services, and twice a year Claudia hosts a travelling veterinarian who is very good. A great opportunity to get a health check up, micro chipped and groomed at a very affordable price. I highly recommend this store!

Great place to get exotic birds or just say hello to them. Lets give them business. We need small businesses like these! They occasionally have a few cats and bunnies in need of homes. Very, sweet people with a small business done in a caring manner that used to be the norm in 1960s, 70s, 80s and early 90s. Please try to adopt a pet to keep this sweet nostalgic place in business!

This shop is a gem and I have to thank Claudia and her dedicated staff for that. I purchased my amazon years ago from them and she was amazingly smart and my sweetheart. Fast forward to now that I am retired and have more time for another bird, I chose a hand-raised conure who is the delight of my family: sassy, smart, and so willing to learn and do tricks. We tried for a few years to adopt from rescue sites, but the process was incredibly difficult and discouraging.

We've bought three birds and all of them were healthy and excellently socialized. They also sell good quality pet supplies for any kind of pet and truly care about the animals they own and sell. Some of the staff can be a little stand offish but I think they've been working to change that. We sadly had to give up two of the birds we had bought from them and a rescue bird we had and they were incredibly understanding, helpful and we knew they were in good hands. I wanted to thank your basic bird for everything they've done for us and helpful they've been in our time of need.

Awesome shop! Our daughter bought her bird here, and now we come back for all our needs -- clipping, boarding while on vacation, toys, etc. They were very helpful in finding the right cockatiel for our family and making sure our daughter was comfortable with him before taking him home. Great customer service! Nice selection of foods, toys, and accessories. The birds available are beautiful, and I love that they rehome birds whose owners can no longer care for them. They have a few other small pets available too - there was an adorable bunny and some cute guinea pigs when we were there. A very pleasant shopping experience!

The staff at Your Basic Bird are fantastic and really caring. I just bought two parakeets and they took the time to educate me on all aspects of proper bird care to ensure the birds were getting treated right. I would recommend this store to anyone who is interested in getting birds or if you already have a birds and just need great prices on food and supplies.

Your basic bird is a useful bird shops have around in the Berkeley area. I go there for pretty much all of my bird related needs. Claudia is very knowledgeable about birds in general and is always willing to answer any questions you have about raising your bird. They have toys, food, and offer adoptions for birds and other small animals as well. The shop is pretty small and crowded and they can get pretty busy so getting attention for whatever you need can be tricky sometimes.

I've been looking for a heavy-pied or lutino male cockatiel for quite a while. The store owner, Claudia, has been super helpful and patient with me while finding a bird that matches my preferences. She always gives me a call when she gets new batches of cockatiels in and really knows her stuff. If you're looking for a specific type of bird or mutation of bird, definitely get in touch with her when you visit the shop. Just be aware there is a waitlist for cockatiels (it took me about 3 months to get called at first).

Great place for birds and other animals, just put deposit down on baby pineapple conure, third bird we buy from here. Claudia the owner is great you can see that she cares for her feathery creatures and the furry ones also. Her birds are always cared for very well, when you buy from here your buying a bird who has been handled with care from day one.

I took my three parakeets in for their usual beak trimming. Claudia is the best and very knowledgeable about a variety of birds.. it is a great place to look for a new bird or a cage and they also have a big selection of bird toys... food for your pet birds or for wild birds in your back yard...

I came here to buy a kitten, and he was a wonderful kitten. The adoption process was a little bit rocky, but the reason for my review is because the lady I spoke to once I began buying cat necessities recommended some terrible products to me. Their litter boxes and food pans had a thick layer of grime on them and clearly had not seen maintenance or care in many weeks, the litter was terrible quality and heavily overcharged, and the food was smelly and extremely expensive as well. I get supporting small businesses, but there's no reason I should be spending twice the amount of money for 1/3 of the weight and 10% of the quality I get from a chain store.

The people working here are not very friendly. A lot of the cages are overcrowded. I wanted to purchase/adopt an older parrot that was there, but was told they were keeping him for breeding. Why breed more birds when there are rescues FULL of birds waiting for a forever home? Clearly this lady only cares about sales and money and not about the actual birds.
