We had the best experience with our dog’s grooming here! Everyone was patient, kind and accommodating with our somewhat shy and finicky pup. The haircut looks great, our dog is happy, and we are too! Albert is the best - our dog had an accident after his whole grooming was completed and he was more than happy to give him another wash and blow dry, and some extra treats! Thank you and we will be back☺️

We have been coming to this place for grooming since our 30 lbs poodle mix was a puppy. The two stars are because the groomers and the staff are really good and helpful people. We really love Eva's work. This review is mostly for the recent management decisions. We usually pay $140ish + tips for a groom, which usually is just a shave down and sometimes just a bath + facial trim. This price is obviously on the higher end of what the rates are in the area, but we still come here because we absolutely love the groomers and the staff.Recently we were informed that we will be charged $200+ (I think we were quoted $240 before tips) regardless of the cut we get. This is absolutely atrocious. We will not coming here going forward. I am leaving this review so that the management/ownership gets some feedback. This short sighted decision will affect the rest of the business. Every time we come here for grooming, we usually spend $70-$100 in other pet supplies even though Pet Food Express is just down the street and offers the same selection for much cheaper. I really hope they rethink this decision but otherwise good luck with the business.

The service was great. Albert took care of my baby dog Canelo on his birthday after I tried to groomed him at home and failed. He patiently explained how he was groomed and the correct tools to use to prevent hurting Canelo. I was satisfied with the service and Ellie was also really nice and friendly.

My favorite dog groomers! They’re friendly, patient and gentle with my two dogs. We have a 12 yr old arthritic Sheppard who loves to be groomed but his back legs are very sensitive. They are patient with him and ensure he’s comfy. Our frenchie hates being groomed and trembles the entire time but they pet her and ensure she’s comfortable through the service.

My favorite store to pop in and visit with my pooch! They have a great array of high quality treats and toys, but the real gems here are the staff who have been nothing but amazingly generous with their time, their knowledge, and their heavy handed treat giving.I get my young Bernedoodle groomed here and am ecstatic with the results. And I credit much of his being the best boy ever to the additional socialization and care I've gotten from staff when we visit the store. They've been more invested in giving me detailed advice than my vet when it comes to my dog's care and nutrition. My pooch and I are better for having this store in our neighborhood and their staff in our corner.

We took our dog here to be groomed and we were blown away by how beautiful Eva made her look! Highly recommend! Plus she gave us lots of tips on how to maintain our dogs coat. So happy with the results!

We have been taking our pomeranian here for a little over a year now to be groomed. This place is great! Erick has been our groomer for the past few appointments, and he is fantastic. He is very tuned-in with our dog, and we always have a feeling of trust when we drop him off to be groomed. Every haircut/wash has turned out stellar and I can't recommend Healthy Spot and Erick highly enough. Outstanding experience.

For the past couple of years we’ve been bringing our Golden here for the spa treatment every 6-7 weeks. Very happy with them until this last time. Had an appointment for the works. After 4 hours got a call that the bathed her and trimmed nails, but no trim. Ran out of time. Tried to make appointment for trim before leaving her in care of sitter for 1 month. Nothing available. We had booked her for everything yet they couldn’t complete the job, even in the next week. Once a happy customer, no longer.

I've been going here since January 2021 and had several different groomers. Cam was great but he left. I've been seeing Erick for the last few sessions and well it just isn't great. For the amount of money this place charges, I expect great. My doodle consistently has an uneven cut and it take 5+ hours. I had to bring her back twice because they forgot to trim her nails. I specifically reminded him about her nails last week and still they were overlooked. That's pretty frustrating. And to top it all off there have been scheduling issues. I was pretty fed up. Luckily, Lizzi, the manager called me and helped me get things right. Abby, who was trained by Cam, did a touch up on my dog and she looks great. I'll be going to Abby in the future.

I've been getting my dog groomed here for over a year. They are nice, but the administration is terrible. We set up only reoccuring appointments, which they have lost track of several times in their system. And they never give a reason for the admin mistep. Lastly, after they lose your appointment they tell you they can't get you another appointment for a few months out - literally 3 months in my case. Nice cut but unreliable service.

Update - After reading the LA Times article about dog who were seriously injured and died after being groomed at Healthy Spot, I’m just glad my pup came out physically okay, even though the groom was completely botched.Brought my spaniel here for a limited groom - feet, ears and sanitary. I asked them NOT to touch her feathers. There was a “miscommunication” between the bather and the groomer and they trimmed all of the feathers (fur on the back of the arms and legs). This is NEVER done on a spaniel in standard grooming. It will take 6+ mo to grow back. I'm devastated.

I take regularly my dog here to groom his nails and normally they do a great job. However, when I most recently took him, I saw him whimpering through the glass which I thought was strange because normally he is very chill with it. When he came out of the room he seemed fine though and his nails weren't bleeding so I think he was just a little nervous. They also have little doggy peanut butter cups that I like to but for him after he gets his nails trimmed.

Cameron did an absolutely incredible job grooming our standard poodle today! It's the best haircut our dog has ever had! We'd been clipping his hair ourselves throughout the pandemic, but it just it got to the point where he really needed a professional grooming job. Cameron got all our dog's mats out and made him look fabulous, and was so sweet with him. The shop itself is also super cute and very clean, with friendly staff. Will definitely return.

Ariel did an incredible job on my dog’s haircut. Every detail was perfect and he came out looking so refreshed and clean without completely changing his entire look which is so often what we end up with elsewhere. Cameron was a huge help in getting scheduled and talking me through / educating me on some logistics about dog hair cuts for golden retrievers that I was completely unaware of. I’m so glad I found this team! This is definitely our new go-to spot for dog grooming.

I prefer to support small businesses and often give them a couple of chances before giving them a more negative review. I am a disabled senior with some mobility and visual impairment . I previously had a negative grooming experience at Healthy Spot and spoke with the manager about it. She said she was new to the job and convinced me that they were working on improving and to give them another try. After a bit of time I took a chance and brought my service dog in for grooming with Eric. We had good experiences with him. Recently he moved to a different store. I brought Gummy in for a nail trim the person forgot to do his dew claws. I didn't think to check to see that theyhaddone a good job, my bad. I found Gummy chewing on his feet. I brought him in for another nail trim and asked the person to make sure to trim his Dew claws. I brought him in for grooming a few weeks later and he came home with a back and hip injury, inflamed skin and a few small bruises. When we arrived home he was unable to walk on the linoleum floor, his legs would splay open. I have a debilitating health vondition and was unable to carry him to the vet immediately but did give him warm baths every two hours fir several days until I could carry him to the vet.. I did a Google search on Healthy Spot and discovered an LA Times article on the death of a dog at Healthy Spot and a class action. I felt like I failed my service I ce dog. I did get a call from the manager who checked on Gummy and in her next breath said she reviewed the video of the grooming and everything looked fine . I felt she minimized my concerns and kept emphasizing how they had improved. I sent a message a couple of days later asking customer service to view the video or kindly send me a copy to reassure me that everything had gone smoothly during the grooming process. There has been no reply to my request. The vet who thoroughly examined my service dog said I should not bring him back to Healthy Spot and have Gummy groomed at my home. With the addition if shelf liners, Gummy began being able to walk on the linoleum 10 days after being groomed. Disappointing.

What a fabulous, caring team!! I spoke to Cameron on the phone who answered all of my questions about grooming for my border collie mix, and I was able to pop in that same day for a nail trim! While I waited, the extremely kind staff had a great balance of chatting with me and letting me browse. When I checked out, the staff gave me a sample of a new food for my dog to try, and her grooming was done very quickly and professionally! Will be returning as soon as needed.

I had an incredible experience here with my pup! I called in to see if I could get his nails trimmed and grinded and they let me in right away! The staff was incredibly kind and took such good care of my boy. They also were remarkably knowledgeable about the products and toys offered. Also the location was so clean and organized. I will always go to Healthy Spot for my pups needs!!!

Very surprised by the positive reviews. I booked a full groom online for my dog almost 6 weeks out (because they had super limited availability) then 6 days out received a text saying that it had to be cancelled, found a new day that worked then was told it would only be available for a spa and nail trim. Everything just came across as very unprofessional, not sure if it is an online booking issue?

This is a great place to shop for your dog or your cat. The employees are very friendly and helpful. The store carries great products and provides grooming and daycare services. Appointments can be booked online via the app. I had my older dog had several negative experiences with groomers a few weeks ago and came out smiling and happy. The store carries healthy foodas well as organic food and treats as well as other products dogs and cats. An employee informed me that the company was started by UC Berkeley graduates. One of my favorite products is a cooling pad for those hot late summer and early fall days we have in the East Bay. My dog has used his for several years and lives it. The store is located between Alcatraz Ave and Claremont Ave on College Ave ue. There are a lot of choices to do either your shopping, have a good meal, or enjoy a cup of coffee in the area all your dog is being groomed. There are other small businesses in the area as well and it is a great area to take a walk or meet with the friends or business acquaintance..

Healthy Spot has had my respect since day one. They only carry the finest quality items of which afford us Pet Parents much needed peace of mind. I also find them to be extremely reasonably priced especially considering the level of service they provide. This location in Rockridge was consistent with their others being very inviting, clean and, very well organized. They were also stocked with the hard to find items that I needed that day.I cannot speak more highly of Healthy Spot in general but the real star was their employee, Wesley. That day I was not myself as my baby, Tinky had just been discharged from 14 days of hospitalization. His hospitalization was the direct result of a local Veterinary Specialty Hospital & ER of which I had tragically entrusted with his care. The only reason I left the house was because Tinky needed these products ASAP. In hindsight, I am so glad that I did as I ended up having a very memorable, genuine and heartwarming encounter with such a special person and employee.Wesley from the start was very friendly and true to those with a caring nature, just wanted to help. I am a bit of a Canine Nutrition Nerd and very passionate about all things “dog”. I definitely am kind of obsessed so I do a ton of reading and research. With that said, Wesley is very impressive and for sure is equipped with more than enough information to responsibly advise customers. He is definitely very passionate about canine nutrition. This has been the consistent theme among all of the employees I have encountered at Healthy Spot, I might add. They are definitely doing things to ensure they only hire true dog lovers and only of the most passionate variety.Wesley gave me some insight into the ongoing education that Healthy Spot provides to their employees. It was surprising but also reassuring to find out that frontline employees there are also included in meetings with the food companies. They are encouraged to ask questions to better understand their products, ingredients and formulations. Encouraged to challenge them on any and everything that may be concerning as Pet Parents and consumers. I wish all retail Pet Food stores/ companies could empower their frontline employees like this.There are a lot of people with companion animals that trust Pet Food store employees blindly. At other companies this may not be a great idea but at Healthy Spot you definitely can trust them. Their employees including Wesley have been quite impressive and with a wealth of knowledge. It definitely helps that Healthy Spot understands how important it is to educate and invest in the employees that have the most interaction with their customers.I hope Healthy Spot recognizes how much of an asset Wesley is. How truly talented with people he is and how rare it is now to find employees like him. I left there feeling so much better than I did coming in. Customer Service is not an easy job by any stretch but he has mastered it. I look forward to seeing him again when I need to pick up items for my dog.Thank you Healthy Spot for being different and ensuring that you have employees that care. Employee that love what they do and make us Pet Parents feel better on days when we really need it. Please tell Wesley I send my love to him and his own little Senior fur baby as well! 🐶🐾
