Absolutely one of the best grocery stores of all times. The organic section and the conventional section both come with more options than you can imagine. The store is highly organized. Some things are a little pricey, like all grocery stores, but on the average, it seemed to be pretty reasonable upon checkout. Friendly staff customers seemed happy the quality of the meats. The store was super clean. Wow completely wonderful healthy delicious. Wish more cities had Berkeley bowl. ❣️

A great supermarket with an amazing variety and selection of everything! Take banana for example, they carry more than 10 kinds of bananas. They also have some mushrooms that I, as a mushroom lover, never knew before!Sushi there was tasty too! Believe it or not, way better than some sushi buffet or warehouse sushi.

Incredible produce, meat, fish, mushrooms, dairy, etc. Like a farmers' market all under one roof! Worth a trip to Berkeley just to shop here!

This will be my shortest review ever. Berkeley Bowl is mostly a ripoff.EDIT:Per the establishment’s response I’d like to clarify… I found the price of most items here shockingly high - 15-20% higher than what I find similar items in other stores. I’ve heard people say Berkeley Bowl is the place to go for value in produce. I didn’t find that to be the case either. I guess the “employee owned” / co-op aspect of it made me think it would be much cheaper. I will however say the price and selection for bulk ingredients is impressive.

What a fantastic store! Just visiting for holidays - does anyone know of a similar market in Pasadena/LA area? (Not Whole Foods)

Berkeley Bowl is a very unique place known for its expansive produce selection. On top of that, they have a lot of organic items and a huge bulk section. If you combined the best parts of Whole Foods and Sprouts and then added a little bit of Asian and European items, you would have Berkeley bowl. The staff is attentive, friendly, and willing to help you find what you need. Check it out. You might just get hooked.

Phenomenal choices of fresh produce, bulk foods, meat and seafood, grocery items and more. This is the real deal. Not a chain. Long time independent grocery store working hard to provide the best produce possible.Parking lot is tight. If you have a big vehicle, plan accordingly.

I’ve been coming here since I was a little kid. Moving down to Los Angeles in the moving back up again I’m glad this place is still here. They have a lot of really great ready-made food and the best produce department I’ve probably ever seen. Also, the beer selection is remarkable.

A vast market with the largest selection of apples and oranges I’ve ever seen. I mean, literally aisles and aisles and aisles and aisles^6 of apples and oranges. The selection (and quality) of the non apple and citrus fruits was not quite as impressive (ie., visible rotting produce), and the prices could be steep. While a terrific market , I wouldn’t hype it up to be the equivalent of a roadside fruit stand in the Yakima valley… or one of those gigantic fruit markets in Colombia

I’m genuinely the best version of myself here. I love how they have such a strong diversity of products and especially price points. You can find cheap box mixes and fancy spices all in one store. It’s lovely! I want the whole world to know about this place and I’m so lucky I got to experience it.

This place is probably my favorite place to go grocery shopping. Wide variety of kombucha! I’ve been shopping here since I was a kid and have always found something new every time I come in. The bulk section is phenomenal and has a huge selection of nuts, dried fruit, pasta, flour, tea, spices, and dehydrated food. Lots of seasonal produce. I’m looking forward to the deli reopening once they’re done working on it.

Large selection of fruits and vegetables. Butcher shop with fresh poultry fish, meat etc. You can find cooked food and pay by pound.

I have been shopping at this location for over 20 years and it just gets more expensive as time goes on. I just spent $19.38 ($9.99 lb) for a large mashed potatoes at hot deli department. Yes, $19.38 for mashed potatoes that was runny and tasted like instant mashed potatoes with little flavor. Save your money and make freshed mashed potatoes instead; way cheaper. Side note: The hot bar/deli staff can be rude sometimes.

Amazing shopping. Huge selection of everything. Great produce, fish, meat and bakery departments. Tasty hot foods to go. Lots of wine selection. Friendly and helpful staff. Place is always packed with people. Takes a miracle to find parking.

I just moved to the area from New England and when I set foot in this place I was amazed at the sheer variety of items, especially the produce. I counted over 50 varieties of mushrooms and apples alone, and zillions of other things. Everything is fresh and well kept, lots of bucks for you to bring containers, helpful staff, and just a great friendly vibe. Bring your own bags and containers-they have a lot to choose from!

This place was built by a Japanese couple that made their name by bringing a vast, fresh, local variety of produce under one single roof. Personally I have never seen anything like it. The level of freshness its just unreal, you get to try just about everything and on top there is a drink call Kombucha that brings great health benefits. The place has also hot food, cafe shop and again all super fresh. As per supermarket itself there are so many product only found here with an accent on Asian products for those whom love cooking with it. Grains, mix to go crazy about. This is stepping stone to humanity providing a healthier approach to our daily diet.

Love love love! This my might my favorite supermarket in the US! All the veggies and fruits are fresh, and they have such a big variety. I found green plantains here too (if you are from the Caribbean you will understand) !

I came here to find my father who has Alzheimer’s, he was lost and was last tracked to this Berkeley Bowl via an AirTag. The store was just closing and there were still customers inside. The workers on duty tonight Mar 10th blocking the doors would not let me in to quickly to look for him or ask anyone inside if they had seen him. They were incredibly rude and unhelpful. My family have been long time customers, I am really disappointed about the lack of humanity and decency that was shown by Berkeley Bowl.

Big selections of everything. I came to check it out because this place is featured in must-visit-places in Berkeley. There's organic and non-organic sections. Lots and lots of fresh produces. There's also deli, and lots of ready-to-eat packed sandwiches, salad or noodles. No wonder the place is crowded.

Consistently bad experience at checkout again today. What has happened to the people who work here that makes them so miserable. Surely customers treat them no differently than other retail employees are treated. On that note, I went to Berkeley Bowl directly from Trader Joe's where the checkout person was so nice that I thanked him just for being so pleasant and "human." At Trader Joe's another employee pleasantly walked me to the location of a product I was searching for.At Berkeley Bowl, whether it's an employee on the floor, at the register or customer service, there is about an 80% chance that they will be somewhere on the unpleasant scale. Twenty percent they will be okay and, so far I have never experienced anyone as just simply normally neighborly as almost every Trader Joe's employee.I would shop exclusively at TJ's. They deserve my business and I leave in a good mood, except that they do not have all of the items I look for. Now, I will write a TJ's review.

Just out with my old pals Shaun Cassidy and Bobby Sherman, they were up from Inglewood for the Partridge Family reunion concert at the Colosseum on Thursday. They were so happy about staying at Country Club they took me out to lunch, they had planned on going to Saul's deli but I told them the Berkeley Bowl Marketplace has a much better offering. So, off we went. The sandwiches were amazing!5 stars all day long. ☆☆☆☆☆

My recent experience at Berkeley Bowl was extremely disappointing. I drove all the way from Hayward, California, only to be denied the food I wanted to order. As a regular customer who frequents the Berkeley Bowl 3-4 times a week, I was shocked by the treatment I received on 02/17/2024.I usually order food for two from the food court, including BBQ ribs, mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and other items. However, this time, when I ordered two entrees with specific sides, I was told I could not have Brussels sprouts, despite them being available. The employee insisted I could only choose broccoli or creamed corn, which was a sudden change without any prior notice. To make matters worse, the employee proceeded to remove mashed potatoes from my plate and play with the remaining food openly. This behavior was not only unprofessional but also made me feel discriminated against and embarrassed. It was evident that other customers were not facing similar issues, which added to my frustration. As a loyal customer of Berkeley Bowl since its opening, this experience left me feeling undervalued and disrespected. I hope the Berkeley Bowl takes this feedback seriously and addresses the lack of consistency and customer service to ensure a welcoming environment for all patrons in the future.Moral of the entire story is that on 02/17/2024 I didn’t purchase any food being that I was rudely handled and most of all denied a side of Brussel sprouts on my entree. And by the way I explained to the lady that I come and purchase food from their food court almost every day and I have never ever been denied a side of Brussel sprouts on my entree and I also asked the lady when did this change go into effect stating that a customer can not have brussel sprouts on their entree because I was just here last Thursday, she laughed at me and told me that they have just changed it which made absolutely no sense and also I pointed out to her that there isn’t a sign stating what she was telling me, So I just left the food and walked out I’am sure she put the food back into the rest of the food and served it to other customers which would be contamination. Because I watched her start to take food off of my entree when I was explaining to her about the fact I’ve never had a problem getting brussel sprouts as one of my sides on my entree and that’s when she started to take mash potatoes off my plate and put it back into the trays for the other customers than she started playing in my entree with a spoon she had in her hand serving customers food.

I was just thinking about how much I miss this place as my go-to supermarket. It has, by far, and without question, the biggest and best produce section of any supermarket I've ever experienced from the 32 countries and 38 of the United States which I have visited. Of course, that excludes produce sections of a giant public market, which is not one business entity, but many businesses together in a public space. Apples and oranges.

I love Berkeley Bowl because they have fabulous fruits and vegetables - - both organic and conventional. They are really on top of their produce. There are lots of people working there to keep it clean. They have discounted produce that is super ripe--ready to take home and use.I prefer going early in the morning when it's less crowded. I find their aisles to be rather narrow when someone is coming the opposite direction. It can be hard to socially distance in their isles. They have lots of variety. They have fresh fish (wild and farmed) and meat (organic and conventional). I have found the butchers to be friendly and helpful. If you are a senior, they will give you a good cup of coffee (part of my morning ritual if I am there in the morning). They have a very nice bakery if you have a sweet tooth.Their cheese section has cheese from around the world. Besides the bakery with wonderful tasting desserts, they have fresh bread. There deli has Asian foods, Mexican, and desserts. During Covid times--take out only. They clean their shopping carts between uses, and don't let too many people in at once. You put your own groceries into your own bag--unless you buy a paper bag and they then bag it for you.For me, it is kind of a cross between a coop and a large grocery store. I love what they have to offer!!!

It might just be the best grocery store on the West Coast! It soothes the pain of visiting the Bay Area for me (slightly) when I remember I will get to go to the fantastic Berkeley Bowl. Bulk section and deli, coffee bar, produce, product selection, all par excellence. I've never been to the Berkeley Bowl West location; the Oregon Street spot is the mothership. It has that distinct West Coast grocery store smell (a good thing). As far as I can tell, every single resident of Berkeley, CA shops here!
