We had a wonderful experience last weekend when we rescued from the Bakersfield, SPCA. They do a thorough check to ensure their pets go to good homes. We brought our dog to a meet and greet with the puppy we were interested in adopting, and it went smoothly. We had no issues and everyone there was so kind. I'm confused by some of the reviews because we had a great experience! We are so lucky and thankful we were able to rescue Northern after losing our cavalier King Charles last year. We are so excited for our new adventure as a family of four again.

I took my grandchildren to look for us a new fur baby or two and the process is VERY CAREFUL. If I could've taken 10 I would've.They keep the animals kennels clean and I appreciate the service to our community. It shows the we who donate are donating to a good cause. 🐕‍ 🐕🐩🐈🐆🐆😻🔥🙏💞

We adopted our German Shepherd 10 years ago when he was 11 months. Best decision we ever made! They were helpful and patient while we found a pet. Steve is a wonderful addition to our family. The only thing i don’t like is how they clean the cages. They hose them down and to this day my dog is still scared of water. As soon as we saw Steve we knew he was the one and so glad we took him because another person was at his cage asking to see him but we were already in the paperwork process. They spay/neuter and chip your pet. Which is amazing! They even give you a voucher to take your pet to the vet to make sure he is in good health. If for whatever reason he isn’t you can bring them back and get a refund Or choose a different pet. Price may be a little high but it goes back into the shelter and it is my understanding that it is a no kill shelter.

OLD Lady that answers the phone is so RUDE lol, I asked if I can go to the shelter to look at the lost and found dogs and she rudely told me NO! , and she told me they don’t have “lost and found dogs” they have adoptable dogs . I said okay thank you and she just hung up on me. Old lady needs to retire if she’s that mad she still working there. lol oh and she hung up on me twice because I called back to ask another question and I said THANK YOU again and she hung up on me again smh. Dam old people have the nerve, I doubt she would be talking to me like that in person cuz I know dam well she would learn some manners with me.

Went to adopt a dog yesterday, and everything went amazing. I'm now the proud companion of Mamacita. She's just over 2 years old and is perfect for me. Their program to help veterans get a pet is awesome. Thank you again Bakersfield SPCA

I wish I could give them five stars to support them but I have called them a few times over the past few years and they are never very friendly. They're unhelpful. Every single time I ask them about an animal it's a no as far as can they help it. They never got back to me multiple times I tried to adopt an animal. When asked about donating my time They told me they haven't taken any volunteers since covid.... it's been 3 years get your program together. It's literally ridiculous the level of non-action that I've run into trying to actively engage the SPCA here in bakersfield. I'm not sure but it feels like something shady is going on with that organization here and it's disappointing because across the country it has never been like this. I have always volunteered at SPCA or shelters and always done my best to help when I find animals in need and it literally feels like I can't do anything in this town and it's honestly infuriating. I don't like to leave negative reviews because I don't want to do anything but encourage the SPCA but honestly it's the truth of what I've experienced and it's sad.

Called to ask simple questions. The lady who answered had the worst attitude ever. You have to like your job and care about animals to work there and have good customer service. Especially if someone is talking to you with respect

I got my bestfriend here. You fill out an application, and then they call you to come in. Once you're there, they let you spend as much time as you want meeting the pet, really deciding if they are right for you. I did not feel rushed at all. They had spayed her, given her shots, and microchipped her. Adoption fee was 100, which is insanely reasonable considering all they had done for her. Thank you!!!

We went to the Bakersfield SPCA looking to adopt a dog. I recommend viewing their website first. They list the dogs available for adoption online with their picture and information. The website explains the adoption process clearly. When we showed up for our appointment, they had a day camp occurring, where local kids come to play with and learn to care for the dogs. It was a very welcoming and warm environment. The staff was friendly and kind. They helped us find our new little furry family member and we were pleased with our visit.

The staff are very friendly and patient. They will work with you in finding the best pet companion for you and your dog. Our new baby is working out just fine with our 8 year old dog.

Everyone was super friendly, the animals were amazing. They have different play areas for the pups and even the cats have open play areas. I adopted this dude, and he won't stop cuddling me and following me around.

I applied for a cat Online but when i found out i wasn't gonna meet the cat before adopting it, i called with concern. I was told i could do a walkthrough so I did. I did not take that cat home. We just didn't feel a spark. But then i saw Mimi. She was so cute and perfect! She adapted so well, she was exploring the whole house day 1. Thank you SCPA!

Saw a puppy on line and went in to see if the puppy was still available. Heads up, you can only see animals with an appointment. Worked out great, I went the next morning . Our dog was still available. We were happy with the facility. They keep good care of animals

I just adopted the sweetest little female red Australian cattle dog from the Bakersfield SPCA. I couldn't be happier with the adoption experience. She is so happy here at her new home and we love her so much.

10 years ago. My mother who is now raising my nephew. Asked me to take him to get a pet. We picked what I thought. Would have been a good addition. Little did I know he had been caged for over 2 years. Then we figured out. My nephew had allergies. We had to take dog back. I didn't ask for the 100 bucks back. I thought a child with allergies would have been reason enough. To take a dog back. 4 years ago. I a 50 year old male go to get a pet. And guess what. I'm told I'm not worthy of adopting a pet from them. Seems if you ever return a pet. Never mind. The poor thing has been caged for years. Your not worthy.

This was our second choice, after first going to the Bakersfield Animal Shelter. We came to adopt a cat, had no trouble picking out the feline. There were at least a dozen or more cats. We were instructed to not put our fingers into the cages. Rather to sterilize our hands first then retrieve the cat out so we could hold it. After selecting a cat, they checked the paperwork and said it had just arrived and would have to be checked out prior to going home. 60$ fee, paid for all the basic health checks and shots. Picked her up 4 days later. Process went smoothly, no major problems

Rude staff, how do you expect people to adopt if you guys want appointments only, I’m sorry a picture doesn’t do justice on whether i want That dog or not. And paying $400 for dogs that are not even full bread is ridiculous. Don’t recommend this shelter!

Ok I adopted a dog from there and come to find out 2 weeks later he has an ear infection from having 3 foxtails inside his ear canal. I took him to Vet and he had to be out in order to remove foxtails. I assumed when I got him that he was well no problems. I called SPCA and asked why wasn’t he looked at she said the Veterinarian they have doesn’t do that.?????? So, I paid for the negligence of that dog. Not good.

The people at the front desk don't know anything. Went there 4/5 months ago and got my dog (Puppy at the time) Casper. Hes good. Thanks for him. Though you got his breed wrong. He's not a chihuahua, he's a Chihuahua dachshund mix.

Wonderful place to rescue animals but prepare to pay a fee if you are turning in a stray. If you do, the donation will go to finding the owner, animal will microchipped, spade or neutered, food, care, and ready for adoption. To me it was well worth it because I, myself was not able to keep any animals at my rental. Thank you SPCA for being there and caring for these wonderful pets.

After doing an evaluation for my dog they said he was able to take in to be adopted. Upon leaving the place they instantly called and said they can not accept him after saying he is okay to take. Terrible service all around and liars to the public.

My mom wanted a dog and when she picked her up the next day after she been fixed, it turned out to be the wrong dog. But mom kept her and she's so loving and turned out to be a god sent! She's such a angel!!! We love her!!!

I love the ASPCA and the mission. Too bad the customer seevice is so poor, as a whole, although there arw always exceptions. Keep on doing what you're doing, just try it with a smile once in awhile....pretend ro care about the humans who are wilqling and able to provide a forever home to these precious animals!

I found a Lil dog Saturday morning & I posted him on everything I could find & every 4hrs almost on Facebook. I just could not keep him any longer. So I called SPCA & they gave me an appt. We are forever grateful for the decency and professionalism of your organization. Please accept this donation in honor of our new adored dog Rocky.He has settled in well and has managed to take over every soft spot in the house: pillows, blankets, cushions and beds. He is a bit vulnerable and needy and I suspect been stepped on in the past and personally ignored. NOT HERE.
