For the month of February 2024, all adoption fees are waived, which means adopting a cat or dog is FREE!! My mom adopted a cat on a Wednesday, we picked it up this morning, and there was no fee and adoption included vaccines, neutering, and microchpping.Once you walk back to view the animals, yes, it smells like poo but that is expected. There are sooooo many dogs and cats, and they are just waiting for their forever home!

Adopted 3 dogs who were ill, in October 2023, they were so over capacity the price of $20 for each dog included rabies and all vaccines, licenses, spay, and medications for the original illness for kennel cough. One was housed with Ill dogs and came down with the illness currently being followed up with unknown etiology, a day after bringing her home. Thankfully Dr. Beshara knew it was far more than kennel cough, and treated her with daily antibiotic injections., also other injections, she would have died from dehydration and respiratory failure.2 Rottweilers, and an albino jack russell, bonded immediately and sisters happy to be home.

I got my cat, Vinny, here and the first lady that I met was very rude. However, the lady that helped me with the adoption for Vinny was very nice and polite. Vinny was separated from the others due to a medical reason but I knew I wanted to take him home as soon as I saw him. The process was quick and simple and they gave me all of the information I needed for Vinny including medical records and Vaccine license. I would adopt from them again.

We adopted a dog there on Saturday. We drove a long way. Well she is very sick, we don't know if she will make it. We are not taking her back, she is a living being and you just don't take them back so they can kill her. And give me another one! There were so many dogs there. You need to start sending your dogs to other Co.s here in California and more states. There is only abt 30 dogs here where I live. Start sending dogs to other places please! Someone deleted the other half of my comments.

I adopted the dog Tulip to be hearing ears for my mother. Her current service dog is now very old and deaf. The staff and volunteers helped find the right size and disposition. Tulip is a great dog and really will fit the need. They also stayed a little late as getting her picked up from Mariposa was an issue. Thank you all.

Upon arriving to get a emotional support dog,the puppy that we wanted. Had a release date and wasn't available, but I guys was dropping off a litter of puppies. Do to being at Kern county animal shelter, the guy let us have 1 of his puppies and received one of the most amazing and fun loving puppies once it settled in with us. Best thing that ever happened for me and my wife, her name is SPECIAL. We saved her and she saved us.

Place is great. Got my Schnauzer mix there. He looks nothing now like when I got him.Everybody please adopt. There are so many animals that need a home. Don't pay for animal!I paid $12 for my boy with the holiday special. The volunteers there were really nice and seem genuinely compassionate for their canine and feline friends. I highly recommend this shelter. They are doing the Lord's work for animals.

I love what this place does for all these lost, stray and abandoned animals. It's amazing. The kcas streets of bakersfield thing they do really opened my kids eyes on how many animals don't have loving homes. When we take a dog out for the day my kids ask everyone they pass if they wanna adopt the dog, or about this program to try to get more people to go down and do they same thing we are doing. Getting that dog out and showing them off to help find their perfect furever home! It's rewarding to them knowing they helped save the dogs life and helped them find a family that will love them.

Unfortunately the front desk staff is rude and unhelpful. Picked up a loose dog and brought it to the shelter. Basically was told they couldn't/wouldn't take it and it's my problem. Was actually told "sounds like a you problem". Pupper was very sweet but kept attacking my dog and cats so keeping her was a challenge. Eventually I found her owners but I will not be picking up any more loose dogs. KCAS please train your staff better. That kind of attitude when someone is trying to help is really unprofessional

The employees here are so wonderful and helpful. The kettles are super clean and very well kept. I found my wonderful new companion there and the process was just smooth and amazing. This should be everyone's first place to look for dogs. There are so many wonderful companions and friends. I recommend coming in person since their website doesn't always display what animals they have.

I want to give them 5 stars because they brought me joy with the 2 dogs I adopted who were fixed, had all their shots for their age and came with microchips. They also provide leashes and harnesses. It was all I could dream for. Sadly, the dogs I got were sick and they did not know. It's hard to give them 5 stars when my dogs are sick and are struggling to get better. To be fair there is an unknown respiratory illness going around. This review is emotionally conflicted because of the health of my dogs which is why I decided to remain neutral and give 3 stars...may the reader decide...

Flying J in shafter which is still connected to current animal control. Anyhow, two white pitbulls that have been used for bait, dogs and fighting have been abandoned at the flying J off the 99 northbound for a few weeks. They have killed a cat. They have attacked a person and his pet. Either way these poor dogs have also been through a lot themselves. Animal control has not picked them up. They are still out there. It's been weeks they get calls all the time for these two dogs. Supposedly the excuses by time to get there. It's too late in the day but they're there napping or walking on the parking lot all day long. Those guys go there if they don't see them within a minute they leave. It's horrible but somebody needs to do something these dogs are the ones that are being seen there for the last few weeks. Animal control is not taking them. I don't know why they were just there napping again today

Love the clean facility they provide to animals, however the staff are very accusatory, unprofessional and incredibly picky over what qualifies as a sick stray. Also, recommending to just "drop the animal off anywhere," regardless of the free roaming argument is just contributing to the issue that caused this epidemic in the first place.

you guys should really provide full information for people before they go looking with the intention to adopt. i was supposed to be adopt a cat for christmas, and i visited the cats, and instantly felt a bond with a cat (jayden) and was ready to adopt. however, i went to the front desk to confirm the adoption, and they told us that he had an incredibly contagious upper respiratory infection (URI), and can spread to my other cat at home. i was crushed because of this bond i have created, is now not available, because i didnt want to put my other cat at risk. after a day, i decided that i would go ahead and take the risk and i went to the shelter. instead of providing information that the kitty could go home with medicine, i was told the kitty was gone with medicine. my heart was crushed because i created such a bond, i started to cry. im 17 and want have been checking the shelter everyday. i hope everyone reads this review, because they said the every male cat had the URI (mind you they are all in the same contaminated room together) and only little females did not, if it’s highly contagious why are they all crated together? they also avoiding answering my question about them all being in the same room, a little fishy, and devastating. it seems that every other review does include a URI case incredibly disappointing.

The staff members could definitely use an attitude check, they are often very rude at the front desk. I get it, it's a stressful place for both animals and people but you signed up to help take care of these animals so try not to have an attitude every time someone walks in.I foster a dog for them and not once did they post about her or ask me to take her to adoption events to get adopted and then they sent me a letter in the mail stating I needed to drop her off and she will be euthanized or adopt her. Being an animal lover and having already 3 cats and 4 dogs I couldn't just drop her off so I adopted her. But this place is very sad. Instead of killing dogs and cats send them to other states where the animal rates aren't high like they are here. The kennels are always filled with poop and the dogs are running around and laying in their own poop.

We found our forever dog here. Couldn't be happier with the service they provide. You don't have to jump through hoops here like other shelters do to adopt. The facility is very well organized and clean. There are people always cleaning and caring for the animals. I would definitely come back to adopt again when needed.
