The best coffee shop in this area.There are several other shops, but this is your real cafe experience. There is a work space in the upstairs loft area, wifi and a pleasant work environment. It’s not too loud or quiet.The beach is right across the street ( video is attached) which I find to be refreshing and inspiring for my work.The coffee was delicious, I had a tuxedo mocha (half dark chocolate & half white chocolate) which was velvety, delicious and beautifully made.It was however a bit pricy for the area $7 for my latte, but that’s to be expected in this semi touristy part of California.

Coffee served with a snarl is not good coffee. We’re coffee people, baristas run in the family. Serving coffee should be viewed as providing an elixir to the soul.Dear unhappy Kraken Barista, a pretty design served with a bad attitude = coffee left untouched. I’d rather go home and make a nespresso.P.S. Coffee served without a saucer means the coffee will spill. At least provide a napkin.

This review was was given solely on the basis of the atmosphere this place has. I literally didn’t order anything off their menu (I don’t drink coffee and already had breakfast) but I just loved how this place felt when you walk in the set up is really cool, being nautical but not too crazy, nice colours, great smell of coffee, and an upstairs seating area. 10/10 would totally work from this place if given the chance.

Kraken Coffee was wonderful! I went there 4 mornings in a row while visiting Avila Beach and ordered something different each time. Everything was tasty and the staff was very sweet and friendly. The bacon date scone and the cold brew were my favorite.

Very disappointed on the treatment that I received from the manager. When I asked if they had a medium roast, told me ‘no’ with arrogance and that the flavors from the roasting are “subjective” (?). I still got a dark roast to try, but $5 for a drip coffee certainly not worth it.Liked Kraken before, but not coming back (especially with the attitude).

Super cute shop with good quality food and drinks. Frustrated however with most of the service and inventory. They frequently are out of very basic things like drip coffee, teas on their menu, or even lids?? The staff is largely unhelpful with these shortages and they don’t have a restroom for customers. Great potential for such a cute place but really needs to be run better.

Nice location and atmosphere, but the prices and coffee quality leave a lot to be desired. This is the lightest/weakest/most watery cold brew I've ever had (looks and tastes more like an unsweetened iced tea), as well as being the flattest nitro pour I've ever experienced. A real miss, unfortunately. (especially at the $6-7 pricetags for the relatively small drinks here.)

The American Southwest stole my heart, but Avila Beach was one of those places where I’d rather didn’t want to leave. Never. Drop me there and I’d never look back. Kraken Coffee would be the place I’d come every morning.Nah… wake up. I was just an hour and a half in Avila. But the cappuccino and ice cream were amazing.

This is a beautiful coffee shop, my family has been coming here for years. I think it deserves a good review, but I’m writing a bad review today because the barista (Olivia D.) was so rude. Other reviews mentioned negative service, and I’d think it’s because of her. Olivia was cold and unfriendly the whole interaction, even after we tipped her 25% she was incredibly rude. I don’t have high expectations for a short coffee interaction, but this was not normal.

Love this new coffee shop. Ice cream...bakery goods and coffee coffee coffee oh and tea! Love that they have oat milk, it foams do nicely. They also have almond milk. Nice view of the pier. A great place to work.#allergygirl

Two stars mostly because the food and coffee was good. Came in and the guy taking our order was nice enough but drinking coffee while taking orders, which was weird…but it was the baristas that were terrible! Walked up to grab my drink, said thank you, girl didn’t even acknowledge or look at me. Went back up to ask for a bit more cold almond milk for my americano and she hardly looked at me again, looked annoyed at the request, then barely gave me an ounce of milk, again not even looking at me. Not to mention their milk was just sitting out on the counter, all of it, for who knows how long. Always loved this place, but after today I won’t be back. Fingers crossed it’s better service and health standards moving forward for the next person

They run out of pastries. The coffee cake is good, if they have it. The restroom use is awkward (through two locked doors, requiring a loaner key). Great location for viewing Avila Bay.

Kraken coffee is where Joe Mama’s Coffee used to be in Avila beach. Can’t speak for the coffee, but the chai was good and the staff was very friendly. Still my go to spot for coffee in Avila :)

I love coming to Kraken. It's so great to not only have a coffee shop in Avila, but a great one at that. Beyond the coffee, I've also had ice cream, baked snacks, bought a beach toy or two and even worked upstairs on my laptop with a great view of the ocean. Not much missing from this place and it's a must visit.

IMHO, really good coffee in the tiny town of Avila. Nice stylish establishment and the owner is hardworking and loves what she does. Lots of people coming and going. Great place to sit down have a drink and watch the people and the beach.
