I had the pleasure of tent camping with my car at Flying Flags Avila Beach. We got lucky with perfect temperature, sunny, and low wind conditions. The service staff were all so friendly and welcoming. The bathrooms and showers were extremely clean. We had an amazing camping trip and I will not hesitate to return to paradise again.

We stayed one night in a Jupe at the end of October and it was fantastic. This a very romantic place, with a great sea view. It was very quiet at night with only the sound of the sea and in the distance the occasional sea lion. After the sun went down we sat around one of the many fire pits on-site and the sunrise was magical. I would give our stay six stars if it was possible. Great on-site facilities and friendly staff.

**** UPDATE****Service went up from 3 stars to 5.I am updating my review to 5 stars. It seems like management really cares about every experience and reched out to me directly to remedy the situation. I honestly wasn't expecting anything additional as there is plenty of times when two parties don't necessarily see eye to eye. What impressed me most was their intent on finding an acceptable solution. I am happy to say that we will be travelling back to Flying Flags Avila in the near future. The views of Port San Louis Harbor are absolutely spectacular and its proximity to food and events, like the lighthouse tour, make it an amazing destination. Thank you again for your efforts and understanding. Very impressed.****OLD REVIEW****Hoping that I would be able to write a better review, since our initial experience was pretty great. We originally booked a No H/U site for the New Year's weekend but had to change that reservation shortly after. Their internal policy is that you get to move your reservation one time - at least that is what we were told at the time of booking. During that second conversation, we attempted to book a 2 day trip with Full H/U (decided to splurge a little), since the site was available for the weekend of the 17th of February. We were later told that since it was a holiday weekend, it required a 3 day booking (another internal policy). It was at that time that we decided to forgo that weekend and instead chose a dry site for 3 days No H/U in the middle of January. Mind you, these sites are easily the most expensive dry camping sites you will find. The weekend went great, although navigating to the dry sites was a bit challenging when arriving at night since the entire site is all one way roads. Regardless, everythign went fine until we found out that we had another reservation for the February stay. I sent management an email clarifying that it was a mistake since there was multiple reservations made but was told that they ended up honoring the 2 day booking for the holdiday weekend that we though we couldnt book for 2 days. Additionally, they had already charged our credit card for the first night deposit. I understand that people make mistakes, but I called and left a message for the management and there was obviously a ton of documentation on both sides that showed that there was confusion in the booking. The issue is further complicated by the fact that there is sometimes a discrepancy between the online booking and when you speak with a representative on the phone. The facility is wonderful, don't get me wrong, but I just don't understand why I needed to be a scapegoat in this situation. It's unnecessary and leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Stayed in our RV for 4 days. Lovely RV Park. Nice size spaces, clean and neat. Fantastic views of the Pacific. A bit breezy and cool in November, bring cozy clothes. Each RV site has a natural gas fire ring as no wood fires are allowed. Beautiful and scenic. Dog beach nearby, great place for Fido to run off excess energy.Be sure to go down to the pier for cocktail and oysters at Mersea's. Mermaid Market has soft serve ice cream. Also saw SpaceX launch and retrieve from Vandenberg AFB.

Very pleased with my entire stay and amazed at how clean everything is. Love how close it is to the beach. Staff was very friendly and helpful. One of my favorite camping stay experiences and I have been camping my entire life. I stayed in one of the walk in / bike in sites. The site was a short walk from where I parked and easy to find. The restroom/showers are the cleanest and best I've ever seen at a campground. Thanks to the amazing team for a wonderful experience, I will definitely be coming back to visit!

I would rate flying flags a 5 if not for the lack of customer service from the front office. Check in was long, asking questions was like pulling teeth, trying to extend our trip by one day you would have thought we asked them to clean out our RV and while we were at the window they turned away a couple who was interested in looking at little house for future rental with the excuse they were all full- they weren't. If not for the fabulous ground staff (Mike & Jesse) and the views I would give it a 1. Mike & Jesse are awesome and the only reason we left feeling like this was a good place for our anniversary trip.

Absolutely the most beautiful view! 5++ Star.Nice 5 star camping spots. Super nice staff! Now for the 4 stars-Grounds need HELP!! For the price we are paying there should be NO weeds in the camp spots. They need to freshen up the mulch. Not must left at all. I don’t think they have been freshened up since they opened a few years ago.. For this price/cost level of an RV park, it should be pretty spiffy at the sites and on the hill sides. We do appreciate the staff as they are really nice, just wish the amenities/ grounds parallel the price you pay.

Literally, the nicest campsite we have ever been to. The grounds are in the most breathtaking view of Avila Beach. The amenities are wonderful, including a little shop with free coffee and tea in the morning overlooking the peninsula. Honestly, the showers were even better than that at hotels I’ve stayed at. Honestly, the only downside was how close the campsites were to each other. But literally can’t wait to stay at this place and/or another flying flags.

I recently stayed here and had an amazing experience. The location was absolutely perfect - right on the beach with breathtaking views of the ocean. The RV campground itself was clean and well-maintained, with all the amenities you could need for a comfortable stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our stay. But what really set this campground apart was the stunning natural beauty of the surroundings. We enjoyed long walks along the beach, watching the sunset over the ocean, and even some surfing right in front of the campground.Overall, I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful and picturesque beachside vacation. It was the perfect spot to relax and unwind, and I can't wait to go back!

Jukes-Stayed hereI love giving positive reviews. However this place is not ready for guests."juke" Tents are installed next to a busier than I thought it would be road where trucks park next to the tents and the exhaust enters the tent.If a truck esp. diesel parks it takes seconds for the toxic CO2 gasses to fill the tent. This is so bad that I had to leave my tent several times to get air. I am glad that I was awake or I might have died.Children entered my tent that were not mine. Woke me up!!There needs to be signs installed to not park or even stop next to a "juke" And a do not enter signs posted, and a railing installed on the small porch in front of the jukes. This may help with the "enter the tent if you want to" problem.I did inform the manager. They said oops its new sorry, lets chat. Nope!No power in these tents.I will not be back anytime soon!!!+ note. The views are great. The staff were friendly. The actual bathrooms were clean although a bit small. And they did have live music on the bluff. Not worth the crazy loud children that rampage around and invade everyone's campsite. Lord of the flies comes to mind.Stay at your own risk!Safety: Kids were riding there bikes all over and several fell and hurt themselves pretty badly. 3-6, 7-9 years old, without supervision! Very steep roads, sharp turns and no railings. It was very hard to watch. Other campers were taking care of and watching others children!!! Crazy!

I stayed here for three nights in their “car tent site.” I wanted to be near the ocean and thought this place was a good fit.The good:The view from the car tent site was good. Faces the ocean. Unfortunately, it was raining the three days I was there but I did get to see the sunrise on my last day and it was beautiful. Can only imagine how a sunset would look. If you have a cottage or rv site, your view is even better. They offer free laundry which is very awesome. Restroom were clean. The entire place looks well maintained. The bad:The sites are literally right next to each other. Isn’t that big of a deal with car camping but not great for tent camping. They do have walk in campsites. The three days I was there, it rained. The car tent site is gravel, sand, and dirt. It got messy real quick. Bathrooms were far so I drove every time. One way traffic. Leaving the bathroom to go back to the campsite, I have to leave the campground to reenter. The lower car tent site is next to the entrance so you’ll hear traffic from time to time. They do the annoying resort fee thing instead of just pricing everything up front.Overall, if you want to be next to the beach, have great views, and use it as a starting point to explore the surrounding areas - I say it’s worth it. I would stay again.

We came to Flying Flags to celebrate our 15 years wedding anniversary. We stayed at one of their Jupe accommodation. We had a great ocean view however it was cold inside the Jupe and no heater for us to use. No bathroom inside the Jupe, we had to use nearby restrooms which is not bad but to get up in the middle of a cold night to go to the bathroom is not ideal. A bit pricey for a Jupe accommodation, $189 per night, weekend rate and $125 from Sunday-Thursday.Rooms: No heater, no bathroom

I want to start off by saying that it is a nice campsite because it is new, however it's not very kid friendly at all. I wish it would say it on the website. We have 4 kids and it was very hard for them to ride their bikes. There are quite a few hills. We were expecting something similar to Flying Flags Buellton. Tracy (an employee there) agreed that it's not very kid friendly. You have to cross the street to get to the beach, just an FYI... we didn't know that. Not a big deal just looks like its right on the beach when looking at pictures. Not the easiest beach access either. I posted a picture of our view from the highest street which is where our campsite was. Hopefully it loaded. I've spoken to a few people since leaving and many have agreed that this is a campsite where you basically do nothing as they have A LOT of rules. Seems like a great campsite for older people who don't have little kids and just want to relax. Could be great for others but not what we were expecting. So this is my PSA for campers with kids; this may not be for you. We ended up leaving two nights early and booking at Flying Flags Buellton. My entire family loved it, including my parents who met up with us at both campsites.

We had something of my 4 year old daughters fly over the side of the hill when it was really windy. She was soo upset about it and Carlos and Scott were passing by and when i asked for help they both assisted right away and climbed down the side of the hill to get it back for her. It made her day! The kind hospitality here has been amazing. We also had the manager Mike I believe his name was earlier in the day help us hammer our tent down. The friendliest staff here! Also amazingview! !Noteworthy details: We had something of my 4 year old daughters fly over the side of the hill when it was really windy. The campground is gorgeous! Although not completed, we love the views and location! We stayed in site 44- Super Premium Ocean View and had an amazing stay. The weather was perfect, it was so peaceful and relaxing. The cabins are adorable from what I can tell. I have posted a few pictures of the the walk in tent sites. I am not quite sure where you park or unload but its a cute area for smaller tents. The canvas tents are being constructed, see photo. Summer is high season and has a 7 night minimum. I can’t wait to come back when the pool and cafe are open!

Fantastic RV resort. My family and I cannot wait to return. Cory is fantastic and super helpful. Be sure to say hello to him. Very dog friendly. Site 31 is the best.Safety: My camper was very safe and I felt comfortable leaving stuff out. I saw the police and security patrolling often.

They've done a good job so far with everything they've developed however the campers on the bottom row need their own bathroom so they don't have to go all the way up to the top of the hill in the middle of the night to use the only restroom on the property. The common areas are great offering coffee and tea exceptionally clean bathrooms and fire pits with plenty of chairs to sit and view the ocean and enjoy your company.

Great location, was nice and quiet in the evenings nestled into the hill with great views. This place is still under construction by with built in gas fire places on leveled spots. It's a great place to camp. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back.

Amazing campground. Most amazing view and great amenities. Free laundry facilities. Free coffee bar. Bocce Ball and did I mention the most amazing view. There are full service hook ups and tent sites available. Kayak rental available just down the hill on the pier. Hike to the lighthouse if you get a chance. Most importantly, just enjoy the view.

WORST PLACE EVER! At first I was super excited to stay here. My husband and I planned on him staying there tent camping for about 2 weeks and into the second week my husband was kicked off the property for having our cat inside his tent! This place is not pet friendly and they do not follow there own pet policy which states "four legged friends are welcome" It's too bad the owners are not nice people. Id understand if we were bothering people but we were not. We kept to ourselves and our cat is quiet unlike all the dogs they allow to stay barking. Our cat is just like our child like dogs are to alot of people... I can't imagine leaving her behind when she's our family. Mean heartless people run flying flags!

Although this place is only about 15% complete according to the staff, the grounds are absolutely beautiful and you will not be disappointed with your stay! They seemingly spared no expense developing these grounds and it really shows. My wife and I stayed in our trailer at a hookup spot for nine days to start off the new year. We were in spot 45 at the top of the hill and the views were absolutely stunning. One minor gripe is that all the sites are angled with the back facing the mountain rather than the ocean so if you have large rear viewing windows on your rig (like we do) you will only get a partial ocean view from there. But if your windows are on the camp side or if your are just out enjoying the nice private gas powered fire pits, full beautiful ocean views. My family joined us for the latter port of this trip and we had 3 of the cabins, 4 tent camp spots and of course our RV spot. The one issue we had with this was while they are all relatively close the hills are quite steep and walking up and down them constantly does get old (though my glutes are all the better for it!)Staff here was very friendly and more than accommodating. This trip was planned as a Birthday surprise and the staff went out of their way to help not spoil it.Pricing is in line with other RV resorts we've stayed which falls somewhere above the costs for a state beach camp site and below the cost of a hotel, depending on the accommodations you choose.Town is a 5 minute drive, 10 min bike ride, or 30+ min walk. We did all three while there. There is a great 3 mile bike path (Bob Jones Trail) that runs through the back of town and is complete with secret beer garden. Lots of great little places to eat, wine and beer tasting rooms coffee, etc. There are two piers (three if you count the closed-to-the-public Cal Poly research pier), one is in town and is a nice stroll, the other is just down at the bottom of Flying Flags in the Port San Luis area with a small fish market and two restaurants. Be sure to stop and watch the sea otters eating mussels off the pier and catch a show from the sea lions sunning on the work dock. There are also kayak rentals and just a ways down from the pier is a nice dog beach. One other minor gripe is that the roads are a bit tight considering they are expecting rather large rigs to be staying. the initial turn in and the one at the top of the hill were particularly tight due to the way they curve.Sunsets in this location bring in all kinds of pink and purple hues and sunrises bring oranges and yellows, both are over the water due to the cove like nature of Avila and is quite unique.Overall I highly recommend this new Flying flags location and am truly excited to see what the other 85% completion will bring!Happy Glamping all!
