Mixed feelings here. We called ahead to secure a room with a jetted tub and they assured us that our room includes one. Upon arrival, we go into our room that shares a wall with the front desk and to our surprise no jetted tub. Then we look out to where our patio is and the view is 100% a dusty construction site. We go to the front desk and the move us to a room across the way with a jetted tub. The view is somewhat better however being on the single floor we had numerous people walk on the railing of our patio looking in our room, felt very unsafe. Then when we were ready to take a bath we could barely open the glass door to the bath/shower. The doors do NOT glide at all and we both had to use excessive force to open one of the doors. Getting into the tub is also difficult considering the entire bath is tiled around and has pointy edges so we both have several scratches and bruises from attempting to get in and out. The water pressure was also extremely light. The room however was very clean and the lobby was welcoming but the experience was less than ideal considering the price to stay here. The staff is nice though!

The Inn has a wonderful cozy atmosphere. Our room was spacious with a comfortable bed and well-appointed furnishings. The staff is friendly and helpful. Two concerns—the resort fee is high and we have never used any of the resort amenities over the many times we have stayed at the Inn. Also, for seniors the climb into the tub is a challenge.

We stayed at Avila Village Inn the week between Christmas and New Years. So this is a late but rightly deserved review.I can't say enough about the service and quality of the rooms, staff and property. 5 Star Review from our family. All staff from everyone who was at the front desk to our housekeeping staff was superb.I am writing this review for an above and beyond thing that the Front Desk clerk, Tommy, did. And I want him to be recognized:This was a last minute vacation scheduled for my little family (myself, husband and our 2 year old daughter). Daycare was closed for 2 weeks so what the heck, let's go to the Central Coast, a place we love so much. My husband is an alumni of Cal Poly SLO so he was itching for a visit. If anyone has kids or has close relationships with children, you know that something if they lose something coveted, all hell will break loose. My daughter just got a new Moana blanket from her aunt and loved it. She walks around the house with it, plays with it, bundles her dolls in it, etc. We decided it's a small and thin enough blanket, lets bring it with us on this trip to make things easier. On our last night there, we could not locate the blanket, but kiddo fell asleep easy enough, I figured I would find it the next morning while we packed up to leave. We searched everywhere in the room, the closets, the balcony, the swimming pool, out car - Nothing. Well, in our last ditch effort when we were checking out and said thank you to the staff, we asked about the blanket just in case. They looked at lost and found and didn't see anything. So we had a sad 2 year old that we were strapping into the carseat to head home. Just as we were about to back out of the parking stall to leave, Tommy comes running for us and sees us in our truck, waves us down - With the Blanket in hand!! As soon as we walked out, he happened to check with room service just in case. And they looked and they found it! It must have got wrapped up in the sheets when room service cleaned out room. We were so thankful for him just checking for us but us parents were the most thankful as we didn't have to hear the crying and whining about losing the blanket then having to replace it.So thank you Tommy for going above and beyond!! We appreciate you!Walkability: We easily walked to the beach, even with a 2 year old! It took longer, but was a good walk!

I booked the "Grand escape suit" on their site. When you book this room it says there is a vaulted ceiling. They show pictures of a vaulted ceiling and that's what they're selling you.I have stayed at this resort before knowing the vaulted ceiling is on the second floor. So I booked it on the Avila Village Inn site. Upon arrival we got checked into a first floor dark suite. . I went up to the desk to explain I specifically booked in this site to make sure I had the second floor room. The "New Manager" seemed nice but completely uneducated of the property . She had no solutions. So she said she would talk to her manager.I never heard anything so I emailed letting them know of the issue and this is the response they emailed back;Good afternoon Makayla,I do see that you booked one of our Grand Escape Suites. Unfortunately we do not have both suites with the vaulted ceiling. We do understand the appeal of the vaulted ceiling in our suit on our second floor. We can always notate the request for the second floor suit if you would like to reach out when you book with us again.Guest ServicesGuest Service RepresentativeSo sad to treat locals this way, pathetic actually. The two suites are NOT both fairly represented on their website and should be different prices for what you're getting.I asked for a partial refund and that was their response.I will never give you guys my business again.

Very run down. There were chunks out of the wall not only in our room, but directly behind the receptionist desk! That should have been my first clue?NO bottled water available. Soda machine was broken/inop. No coffee machine in the room. Fridge in room was empty, yet they wanted to add a 50.00 charge for "incidental's"? Furniture didn't match. Two different chairs and a Small coffee table. TV stand was for an OLD TV and there was a very small old flat screen on top of it! No movie channels were available. Cabinets in the bathroom were well worn as well. Fireplace was NOT a fireplace, but a heater with a glass front. Spa was ice cold when we got there, and was not serviced during our stay. Staff was friendly, but unable to accommodate any requests (not their fault at all). Parking was marginal. This place needs new owners and a make over in the worst way!!!First class prices for less than stellar accommodations.Completed a survey (from the hotel) with this same information and received no response. Will not be staying here again. Would not recommend.-JDRooms: Clearly not updated since the day this place was built. The light bulbs that did work (some didn't) were all a different color? Bizarre.

Such a great hotel. The only unfortunate experience was the lady below us was super sensitive. My son got up to go to the bathroom and she called the front desk and said we were making noise. It was before 10 pm, and most people were out in the spas making more noise than us. The hotel was super clean, front desk was so kind, and a noon check out made it very relaxing. Awesome place close to Avila Beach.

Room is dated, the toilet was very loose, called the front desk and asked for a maintenance person to address the issue, there was no maintenance person working. The fireplace did not work. I was charged a 34$ resort on top of the room fee.Not happy with the stay.

Very relaxing. Spa on porch seems overkill, though. Right next to Bob Jones walk, beautiful; some road noise with porch door open.Rooms: Nicely decorated in Mission-y fashion.Nearby activities: Trail is great.

The gentleman that checks peoples in is so pleasant!I have never had a problem with my stay here.I wish their bar area upstairs was actually functional though. It’s a great location. Near the beach, and near trails.I loved the rooms. They were nice, clean and well kept. The room with the hot tub in the bathroom was nice. I loved the room we stayed at with the jacuzzi the best. When reserving you can even choose the rooms closer to the trail.Walkability: Near the trail, not far from the beach, the parking is great.

We were delighted with our stay! The rooms were very comfortable and well appointed with a fireplace. The common areas are very open and relaxing with a fireplace in the main area and a smaller sitting area on the second floor. This place is a gem and the staff was very helpful. We dined at Woodstone Marketplace and had a fabulous breakfast within walking distance. Would love to return when weather is better.

My wife and I stayed here on a Thursday in September, 2022. It was very nice. Our room was right off the lobby. It looks like all rooms are although ours was very close to the front desk and coffee station. (No breakfast, BTW). Didn’t notice any noise. A reviewer mentioned that there was no coffee in the room. True enough however all the in—room coffee I’ve ever had was garbage. And the lobby coffee wasn’t far away. The king bed was comfortable. I like a very firm bed and ours was almost very firm. It was flat. You didn’t roll towards the center. Pillows were the usual air pillows that don’t support your head. All hotels have these and it drives me nuts. The bathtub was a large soaking tub with jets. I can’t say whether or not the jets work. If you have mobility issues, getting into the tub is an obstacle. It is doable but you need to be careful. The rest of the bath was nice.We reserved our room through Expedia. We used about $30 worth of points. There was a resort fee of $30. More about that below. The walk-up rate that we overheard was far higher than what we paid so be smart about reserving your room.I mentioned coffee in the lobby. The lobby is a nice feature. It’s close to your room and has multiple comfortable seating options. There is no breakfast but you get a smaller discount at the coffee shop on the same property. We had a very good breakfast there. The resort fee gets you the use of the gym across the parking lot. The gym is pretty good. Somewhat limited on the weights area. A bunch of aerobic machines. A very nice lap pool and a ‘recreational’ pool. There are also tennis courts. To really make use of the resort, you really need to stay more than one day unless you don’t do anything else locally (just my opinion, of course). The property is close to Avila Beach. It’s also pretty close to Shell Beach. We would stay there again if we could get a similar rate. We paid about $190 including discounts and fees. It is great for that price considering the location close to Pismo, etc. We heard of much higher rates and that would make the inn not so cost effective.

Beautiful property, gorgeous, comfortable rooms. Our room has a private hot tub on the balcony, gas fireplace and wet bar. King beds in every room, flat screen TV and a remote control A/C - heater. Bath robes too! Large spacious bathroom and shower. Lovely amenities. Extremely clean. Also a wonderfully warm and welcoming staff. Just a pleasant experience all around. Definitely staying here again! I highly recommend Avila Village Inn.

We were very disappointed 😞! The rooms are small while the restroom was big! No coffee makers in room, had to go downstairs to get coffee. The cleaning was not good. I paid $1900 for 5 nights, was supposed to have a jetted tub it did not work when I asked if I would be reimbursed some of my money was told no. My balcony was not cleaned when we entered the room, nor was it cleaned during our stay. Not enough amenities, plastic cups, glassware not washed during cleaning. Very discouraged 😞

So not worth the money we spent for 2 nights. Our first night all we could hear is doors slamming throughout the night into the early morning. The bathroom smelled like sewer after taking a shower.... The room did not seem like housekeepers know how to clean well. There was strikes of something on the wall near the bed. There was two remote controls for the tv that was confusing. The hot tub was the best part until I tried warming it up at 8am Saturday and it would not warm up. Would have loved to enjoy it before having to checkout..... Nina at the front desk was helpful Friday morning after explaining our sleepless night and credit us 75.00 off our bill. The lady at checkout cared less of how our experience was.... No coffee maker in room. Bike trail is open after being told it was closed. They only have one bike available...

Room was pretty standard at lofty $300-600/night. Some rooms have outdoor hot tub ours did not. Air conditioning was broken and blew out hot air, and the handle in shower broke off. Bed was fairly comfortable and lobby and upstairs bar had a nice cabin feel. Staff was a bit scattered and several didn't speak English (got blank stares when asking for orange juice which they didn't have despite offering breakfast). It was an okay stay and includes access to a great gym, but probably won't go back.

Cozy lobby, very nice personnel. We used the bikes for a ride to the beach, then went to the athletic center for a hot tub soak and relaxation.Noteworthy details: Bob Jones Trail was right outside our room. We rode bikes one day and did the walk the next. Hidden gem.

This place is gorgeous! And the staff is helpful, the gourmet coffee downstairs is local and delicious as well. My complaints would be the bed is 700 years old and sunk in the middle and the hot tub, the cover on it was ripped in 2 and had holes all over it. Upgrade the mattress and keep the rooms with the hot tubs in shape and I'd give it the 5 stars. The grounds it's on is gorgeous too, close to avila, the hot springs and not too far from slo

My husband booked this place for our honeymoon and I couldn’t have been happier. It’s so quaint and beautiful. All the linens and towels smell good and clean. We stayed a week and I was very comfortable here. There is a jacuzzi tub on the balcony and we enjoyed that a lot. The only thing I didn’t like was that there was no full-length mirror in the room. Other than that, this place is great and I completely recommend it.

This place is nice, but the service side of things is definitely impacted by the new COVID normalcy of things. Meaning they provide very little services, like no daily maid service or snacks in the morning. No coffee in your room either, but some available in the lobby. Worst of all, only single ply toilet paper. Throw in old TV cabinets with open holes in them, and you can see that they are not providing funds for upgrades. That's life as we know it now, but maybe they can splurge a little on 2 ply toilet paper.

We've stayed here several times, and the first time we stayed here we were thrilled about having found a gem of a little hotel, so it's unfortunate that we have to call out the Inn for the condition it's currently in. In short, maintenance and cleaning are very neglected. Our room features one faucet that doesn't work, one faucet that leaks all over the counter and onto the floor (and has been leaking long enough to leave hard water deposits), carpet that is beginning to fray, unpainted wall patchwork (also found in hallways), unpatched scrapes in the walls, the shower doesn't drain well, wood trim that has been broken and left shoddily/not repaired, worn out and mismatched chair upholstery, missing patio screen door, curtains are filthy, dirt and dust in lots of places (oddly not dirty everywhere) and the finish on wood chairs and cabinets is pretty rough. It pains us to have to leave this review, because the location in a wooded creekside spot is so magical, but it's clear that there is a lack of oversight on the execution of cleaning and maintenance - this doesn't look like something I can blame Covid on. We'll be watching the hotel's website for a note about improvements to determine if we'll come here again next year.

During my visit we stayed in the Grand Escape Suite Thursday thru Saturday. After reading reviews online I learned the rooms do not have a microwave or coffee maker. The hotel website does not provide this information. The reviews also indicated that the second floor suite provides more privacy than the first floor option due to the trail walkers have an open view to the balcony Jacuzzi and bedroom. When I called the hotel to make the request for the second floor suite, the lady was very nice, helpful, and accommodating. The day of check-in I called the hotel at 11am to see/remind if at all possible to be placed on the second floor (This lady was short and rude). At check-in, the gentlemen (Matt/manager) was nice and informed me I would be on the first floor. I explained it was our anniversary and to my surprise he said we only have 2 Grand Escape Suites and proceeded to make a sarcastic remark that I could not be accommodated on the second floor because he could not kick out the guests that were already in that Suite. I was completely surprised by his abrupt direct response. I explained I did not know there were only 2 suites and “NO” I didn’t want anyone kicked out. So this was the start of my dealings with Matt and it did not get better from there.Once in the room we unloaded our stuff and as we washed our hands we noticed that one of the two sinks did not drain. I informed Matt of the issue and he came to the room with a sink plunger and attempted to fix the drain. He was unable to fix the drain and let us know to inform the front desk when we leave the following day so maintenance can come look at the sink while we are out. After leaving all the plunged debris in the sink and he asked if we drink wine. Since we do not drink wine that was the end of that. The following day the phone rings at 9am asking when we planned on leaving so maintenance could come fix the sink. I did not realize there was a timeframe I had to follow. We left for 4 hours and when we returned they had fixed the sink and still left the gunk in the sink.My husband and I were sitting in the Jacuzzi and 2 kids climbed the wall and looked into our Jacuzzi. Thank goodness nothing was happening, but really???? Starting about 9pm the kids above us were jumping on the bed, running, and dropping stuff on the floor. By 10:30pm I called the front desk because the noise from above had not stopped. Matt was annoyed with me calling. By 11:30pm my husband was furious with the noise and he called Matt who again was annoyed. The atmosphere of this hotel is good: it is small, quaint, and a hidden gem. In my personal opinion this is not a family friendly/kid friendly hotel. The décor is a bit old and out dated. The room had several problems that should have been caught by house cleaning. A clogged sink, the other sink handle just spins and hot water does not come out, ripped curtains, chairs with springs hanging out, lights in Jacuzzi don’t work, dark and dingy room.Overall I feel that if Matt who is the manager would have offered some kind of compensation for the condition of the room (besides his indirect offer of a bottle of wine), that would have outweighed the issues of the room. I believe customer service and appreciation goes a long way. I definitely believe this hotel lacks the willingness to make their guest happy or satisfied. We did not care we were on the first floor we arranged the Jacuzzi cover is such a way that we were able to create a privacy screen. During check-in and check-out I was not provided a receipt. Shame on me. I did not think about it until I got home.
