My 16-year-old dog has been a patient at Sunny Brae Animal Clinic since she was a puppy. However, several of my recent experiences have been disappointing, and I have decided not to return to this clinic. While it is the largest clinic that readily accepts new patients, it seems to prioritize quantity over quality. In the past, when my dog was younger, the clinic was convenient, with a lovely waiting room and kind staff. However, on recent visits, I have found that they tend to charge significant amounts without producing satisfactory results.During my last visit, I brought my dog in for kidney issues, as she was passing bloody mucous in her urine. Despite providing a fresh sterile urine sample and emphasizing that she is my service dog with severe separation anxiety, I was informed that the sample might be contaminated and an ultrasound of her bladder was necessary to collect a new sterile sample. I was not adequately informed that they would use a needle to extract urine from her already agitated and inflamed bladder, causing unnecessary distress. After charging me a substantial fee, they concluded that nothing was wrong, suggested kidney-specific dog food without disclosing the formula details when questioned. To add to the disappointment, I later discovered they had billed me twice for the same treatment.The following day, when I requested a prescription for antibiotics as a precaution due to my dog's history of UTIs, I was denied. They had discarded the urine sample, insisting on repeating the process, including a culture test, at an additional cost of $275 on top of the initial $200 payment with no conclusive results.As someone who has experienced veterinary care extensively and worked as a vet assistant, I find the lack of compassion towards my dog concerning. Given my dog's extensive interactions with vets globally and my own background in the field, I am puzzled by such a business approach in our small community.For routine vaccinations for healthy young dogs, Sunny Brae may suffice. However, for comprehensive medical care, I recommend finding a clinic that aligns with the level of care you expect for your beloved companion.

Dr. Carleton is awesome and the clinic is clean, orderly, and if you have an appointment, it is very timely. The staff seem genuinely interested in your furry ones and very kind. Excellent cate and a great new mural adorns the office.

It was just after Christmas, so it was very busy… but I really liked our veterinarian (my dog also very much approved and felt very comfortable.) The team seemed to be happy and organized while working as quickly as possible. The lobby is nicer than most other vets. Prices seem comparable with everywhere else.

Wish I could give zero stars. This place is incompetent to the point of animal cruelty. My dog has been without her medication for over a week because they refuse to call it in to the pharmacy and when we call we are put on hold and forgotten about. Always promising to call us back or promising to call in the script to the pharmacy. Never ever follow through. Ever. The whole staff is rude and doesn’t care about the animals in their care whatsoever. Shame on this clinic

Thank you Sunny Brae! My dog ate some chocolate and the crew at SBAC got us in & out within 30min, (obviously) without an appointment. They took great care of my 6.5yo dog and comforted me when I was panicked over the situation. It was about $350 for induced vomiting & emergency vet fee. I recommend SBAC and would come here again!

They are normally not our vet, but ours was out of town. We had an emergency and they took us in right away and helped us take care of our cat. Great service and care.

We had our 16 year old kitty put down here. The nurses were superb and thoroughly compassionate. The grounds were clean, and the building didn't smell of animals. "Nugget" went to kitty heaven and met Jesus. Be prepared always!

These guys are great don't get me wrong. But what happen to wanting to be a vet because you love animals. Now it's all about money I can't believe they are gonna let my wife's companion die because we can't come up with thousands of dollars to pay for his operation. We always pay everytime never owed them a dollar and we would pay for this to we just don't have it right now so they are letting him die with a blockage. Wheres the passion the love of pets. I mean really how many vets are there and one couldn't take a couple hours to do the surgery. So now our best friend is gonna die.hes literally in there custody right now and they are letting him suffer over money that they would get for sure we always pay our bills. He's in their vet right now dying in pain. What happen to this world it's all about money. Wheres the love of animals.

Best Vet office I've been to! They are very efficient & knowledgeable. They removed a cancerous tumor from our old lab when others wouldn't touch it & it's gave her a new lease on life & a few more "happy" years w/our family ❤️ We are so thankful for Sunnybrea Animal Clinic!

Had a very scary situation my cat throwing up full size worms and had little help from my more local vet in sohum who apparently carries NO OTC medicine at all despite being very rural and think would stock up. This Vet didn’t turn me away because I didn’t drag my cat 3 hours north for little reason and had OTC medicine strong enough to help. VERY GRATEFUL

I took my cat to this Clinic an 18 year old Ginger named Rusty and he was extremely sick they let me sit in their office for an hour and while I waited they seem like they were really nice and then they call me in like I'm going to go in and have my cat checked out because he has a horrifying ear infection and they took me in there and told me that they don't want my business it's too much of a hassle and besides that my cat's old they then told me that I could leave I got on my knees and I begged them to help me and they told me that they are not going to help me I beg them to please let me talk to a veterinarian why are you doing this to my cat my cat has done nothing wrong they ended up making me leave my cat is laying on his side right now panting I don't know what to do I've never been treated so bad in my life yeah I look homeless yeah I smell like a fire but why is my cat being punished I wouldn't take an animal to that clinic if it was the only clinic in the world I have never been disrespected and hurt so bad in my life my heart my chest hurts I am in pain my cat is in pain this place is horrible they were so loud and obnoxious my cat was so sick he lying on his side panting I begged him I got on my knees and beg them and they told me quote we don't want the hassle and your cat is old anyway you could take them somewhere else and they call the cab and refused to help me this is the most horrifying treatment I've ever got in my life anybody that takes their animal there is taking the chance of being treated like you're a dirt dog my cat didn't deserve the kind of treatment I got

We love Sunny Brae Animal Clinic! I feel that our animals receive the best care available at this clinic. They make it easy to get in if your pet needs to be seen quickly. They also have emergency services here. Our dog was injured last week. They got us right in and sutured her up. Even though our dog was in pain, she still walked in wagging her tail because the techs and doctors are so kind here. I also had to put my old senior chihuahua down here last year. He was very nervous about going to the vet. They came out to my truck and let me hold him on a blanket so he could be comfortable and unafraid in his last moments. It was the best passing possible for him, and for that I am grateful.

Sunny Brae was so wonderful in helping my 14 year old dog Boomer cross over the rainbow bridge while I was on a 3 week road trip with him. He had been dealing with a terminal illness for about a year, and it took a sudden turn for the worse while we were in Arcata. They were able to see us the very morning that I called. He didn’t even have to leave our campervan. The vet tech came out to us, and my other dog was able to be there too. I later received his ashes, but then unexpectedly also received a beautiful carved stone from them.They have a wonderful outdoor gazebo and dedicated parking space for the euthanasias, which is so thoughtful.

Brought my dog here for emergency visit as my vet didn't seem to care about my dogs issue. Was ecstatic with the treatment here, and my dog is all better thanks to the doctor. Front desk staff was nice and made the cost very clear to me so I wasn't caught off guard. Very happy.
