Compassionate, friendly staff at desk... Professional, knowledgeable staff in the exam room.... Prices at best , are basic as anywhere else..$$ Veterinarian prices are expensive unless you can afford pet insurance.. The clinic is clean , not over crowed , plenty of parking space.. Although my pet is a new patient..so far I truly appreciate and trust this pet clinic..

Kind, compassionate, reasonably-priced care. I have two reactive dogs, and Dr. Dossett sees them both. I called around to all of the vets in Arcata before I moved to the area. My Doberman is people reactive and will bite, plus he has complicated health issues which sometimes require frequent visits. AAH exam fee is $80, but a recheck is much cheaper which definitely eased my mind since there have been times we have had 3 appointments a month.AAH is a fear-free facility, and I appreciate the care that they show with their fearful and reactive clients. I want to specifically mention their team of vet techs who have been incredible. Sarah has sedated my Doberman twice. Even though he is muzzled, I recognize that sedating an animal who is actively trying to bite you is a stressful experience. She has been calm and always treated my pet with so much love and respect.Get established with this practice right away and they will always get you in when your pet needs to be seen. The combination of their hours, emergency vet fees, and scheduling ability made this an easy choice for me and my special needs dog.Some of the reviews mention not having accurate cost break down. I haven’t found that to be true at all. Vet care is unfortunately incredibly expensive, but I don’t think that is an issue with this practice in particular.

They provide excellent care for our furry pets. The staff is amiable and takes the time to thoroughly explain any concerns. Like most veterinary clinics, the cost of care is quite high, so I usually shop around for the flea medication they recommend.

Never had such a caring vet clinic ready to answer all my questions, and that made it so easy to pass questions on to the doctors. This clinic truly understands the connection between pet parents and their pets. I walked away from my appointments feeling at ease and truly cared for as a dog momma and that my baby was welcomed with open arms there. I love that they even follow up to see how my little cutie pie is doing. Highly recommend these hard working professionals to care for your pets!

One of my chickens has been having health issues and I was having a very difficult time finding an avian veterinarian in the area. Arcata Animal Hospital has one of only two in the county yet they gladly added us to their panel and got us in for an urgent care visit very quickly. Every member of staff I interacted with was incredibly kind and helpful from my initial phone, to the visit, and even aftercare/follow up. They answered any questions or concerns promptly which was such a relief after I had her home. The clinic itself was welcoming, clean, and calming. Amelia felt like the star of her own show. I am so grateful for their practice and for the care they gave my sweet little chicken.

Great place. Was the first visit with my rabbit, Bun Jovi. They were very kind and professional. BJ liked the vet tech and the vet. Would recommend. Very busy place, hard to get into. If you're appointment is set weeks in advance, you'll get the occasional email with discounts on stuff. Not many places take exotic animals. This one does. The current price for getting a male rabbit fixed is $350-470. Feb 2023.

They have been caring for my cats for 15 years. Always caring and yet professional.Recently one of my cats became very ill and it turned out to be cancer. They did their best to help him for another few weeks. The time came for the last decision.The depth of the sadness they imparted was very comforting and made the crossing as easy as possible.

I absolutely adore Dr Joy. She is compassionate, loving and professional. It's a very busy office so routine appointments have to be booked way ahead. They are usually great with emergencies. But when my bird got sick, the exotic animal vet was gone that week.

Doctor Joy is awesome!She is very gentle and compassionate toward us and our kitty, Bogey.Our girl tends to be anxious during visits, so Doctor Joy prescribed some meds for her so she would be more relaxed during her exam, and it helped.The staff have always been so kind and considerate.I highly recommend this facility.Thank you, Arcata Animal Hospital!🐾❤️

Friendly staff, very knowledgeable and great for emergencies! Thanks for taking care of Lulu so quickly when she had her eye scratched by a cat. We were able to get in within hours and had everything we needed to make sure she healed up right! She is a happy little pup now and her eye is all better. Thanks again!!

This place feels like the only ethical vet in Humboldt County. They still take new patients despite being booked because let’s face it, we’re still getting pandemic pets and new pets need to be seen. They actually stay open for emergencies and most important of all THEY ANSWER THEIR PHONES! McKinleyville and Sunnybrae could never haha. They took really good care of our kitty and gave us great advice. Glad to be a patient here.

Great place! They really care about your pets and are a no fear clinic. They give treats during injections and everything. My dog was so focused on the treats and petting that he didn't even notice any injections. My dogs were scared of going to the vets before going here, but my dogs were always excited to go to this vet. If I didn't have to leave California, I would keep going to this vet permanently

AAH has been there for Nala since her rescue almost 5 years ago. They have always shown care and much concern for her well-being. Even when she broke her paw in 2 places and the "amputation" word came up. The staff was very supportive in coaching Nala and I through that tough situation. "They are great"

These guys are so nice and helpful. I had a great experience bringing my pets here but i had to take a star away because i had to order the flea medicine online, and when i did, the order automatically cancelled itself. Meanwhile, my dogs itching is getting worse and she's starting to loose hair. I called and they said that I would have to order again but that they would be looking for the order to get it through right away. Several days went by and the order still hadn't been approved. I called and they said they approved it that morning. That was a Sat. On Monday i called the 3rd party that I'm ordering from that this animal hospital uses and they explained, after a 30 min hold, that because the order took so long to be approved, and the pharmacy doesn't process over the weekend, it still hasn't shipped. Now my dogs are crying while scratching themselves and i feel that theres nothing i can do to help them as I've already tried all topical options available.

I've been taking my cat here for about 2 years. There's a lack of follow-through, granted, I can only speak for my own experience. Recently, I took my cat in for senior bloodwork. We received no email or phone call or voicemail with the results. I finally called only to be put on hold, hung up, and emailed them for the results. Now I have to request a vet to call me to discuss the results, something I would expect to have been done 7 weeks ago. There have been a handful of other such instances of less importance, but this was disappointing. Also, even with an appointment, 4 out of 5 times I'm waiting for extended periods of time to be seen. I think there's got to be other options that offer a better experience. I hope so anyway.

I took my senior chihuahua to Arcata Animal Hospital when she began limping. We hadn’t had a vet visit since the pandemic.The staff gave me an appointment the same day. They were kind and welcoming when we arrived to their very comfortable waiting room.The staff was super with my skittish pup and gave her a thorough exam. Once the issue was diagnosed, I was given options with no pressure. I’m a senior on a fixed income, so I am limited with incurring expenses. I felt completely heard. Bambi is recovered and I am very grateful. This week I got a text checking up on her progress ❤️Feel good taking your loved pet here.

The staff are very nice and give me options under different prices when possible. We have a big German Shepherd and the vet bills are high when we go in. It's great that they do a full rundown of treatment options with prices so you can make your choice.Just like any of the vets around though, they may not be taking new clients. There is an unfair ratio of pets-to-vets around here.

I just moved back into town and needed a vet. They were highly recommended from friends and so I went there. I got tumor. removal and dental work done for my older dog and they were about 40% less expensive than the quote i got from my last vet. They also don't keave me sitting in the waiting rooms for 30 minutesike my last vet.

Saturday chicken emergency and nobody in the county was open or taking chickens. One of my favorite girls was very sick. The staff, even though they didn't have space to see her, was so compassionate and tried to locate a vet that could help. Ultimately, I was able to fit into a cancellation spot, and they were all so kind every step of the way. I intend to take my other pets here, given the experience I had with them. Everyone very nice, this was my first time meeting them in person due to covid. I love the way they handled Jack, he is a very skittish and fearful 2 year old cattle dog mix. He is very high energy and is a odd mixture of a very happy, playful pup, and a terrified, suspicious, abused dog. I adopted him at about 6 weeks old, he had been caught with about 20 other dogs and puppies running wild near Hoopa. He was born to a feral mom and his Vet says that she had taught him to be fearful but hadn't the time to teach him confidence and not to panic at every noise. It's taken 2 1/2 years and he is better but will probably never be completely at ease. That is why I appreciate the skill and attitude of the entire staff at Arcata Animal Hospital.
