We were traveling from vacation in Mississippi back to Iowa and found two incredibly emaciated dogs running in and out of traffic on the interstate. We arrived at this shelter after hours (after talking to 911 dispatch) and talked on the phone with the dog catcher. She instantly answered the phone upset with me for some reason. She said the shelter was full and she couldn’t take dogs out of city limits (but we just got off the interstate to get to her) and that she would press charges on us if we left the dogs outside the shelter because there are cameras that caught our license plate. We had no intention of leaving the dogs. We were just trying to help them and to be met with that kind of anger was a horrifying experience. After calling numerous shelters, a Good Samaritan saw us and is planning to take the dogs at least temporarily. I hope no one else has to deal with this dog catcher while just trying to do the right thing for two helpless pups.
