This so-called "rescue" is nothing more than a glorified puppy-mill dog broker. Legitimate animal rescues use a large network of foster parents who take the dogs in and acclimate them to life inside a home which includes working on potty training, basic training, grooming., etc. This "rescue" does none of those things. I was wary from the start about adopting through them and should have followed my gut and adopted from an actual rescue. The owner of the rescue is hard to get in touch with, especially once she has your money. My dog was pulled off the transport trailer and was a filthy, stinking mess. He had horrible mats all over his body, eye discharge so thick that part of the fur under and above his left eye was stuck together and blocked his vision partially, and feces caked down the back of his legs. The rescue owner commented "My daughter was going to give him a bath but we didn't think he would dry in time". They had him for at least 7 weeks in which time he could have been bathed and the mats trimmed out. There is no excuse for leaving an animal in that condition. There are other dogs in that same condition that you can see from their Facebook page. I gave him a bath as soon as we got home and spent two hours cutting all the mats out of his fur to make him more comfortable until I would get him into my groomer. A couple of the mats had small wood chips embedded in them and one was poking his skin! Matting can be incredibly painful for a dog. Pay close attention to the background of the pictures they post of adoptable dogs. It appears that the dogs are kept in small outside enclosures that either have a dog house inside it or are attached to a shed. Who knows if they are even heated. She also lied about my dogs age. She said he was "about a year old", yet when I was first held him I noticed his breath was really bad. It smelled like dental decay. A one year old dog would never have breath that bad. I took him to my vet right away and he estimated that he is really between 3-4 years old. Any vet can estimate a dogs age within a reasonable proximity of their true age. Please do yourself a favor and do your research. Go with a rescue (or humane society) that uses a foster network to take for their animals. I watched the owner literally yank a Corgi out of it's crate with no gentleness or care from their transport trailer - that poor dog was terrified. These people don't care about animals, they only care about the almighty dollar. Also, please be warned that if you leave an honest review like mine above, the rescue owner Kim Solimine will block you from their Facebook page. Again, please do your research and go with a reputable rescue and not one that leaves their poor dogs in a deplorable condition.Be warned, she is using a picture of the dog I adopted, on Adopt a Pet currently. If you see a Shih Tzu named "Gremlin", that is actually a picture of my dog!

I was keeping an eye on Petfinder for a perfect fit for our family and applied for Melvin as soon as I saw him. The paperwork was quick and Kimberly called as soon as I texted that I submitted the application.Picking our new dog up was an adventure - they drive from Arkansas to Illinois and then back down through Indiana and down to Kentucky. Kimberly did a great job of keeping us updated the whole day. They stopped often to clean up accidents in their nice trailer and arrived with many clean, quiet dogs in crates with blankets and towels ready to go home with their adopters. Everyone in the parking lot was full of joy as we met our new pets. It was a really lovely experience. This is the first time we’ve adopted an adult puppy mill rescue. Our newly renamed Morti is slowly opening up. As far as we can tell, he is going to blossom into the sweet, patient dog Kimberly described on petfinder and over the phone. I highly recommend researching how to help an adult puppy mill rescue adapt to being a pet. It is going to be a long and - we are pretty certain - rewarding process.I will adopt from Second Chance again in the future!

Great organization! I was looking for a rescue Dalmatian and Second Chance was the closest place to me that had one. Still, it was an 8 hour drive each way so I was initially worried about making that trip!Everything turned out perfectly. Communication was great! And my new buddy is absolutely perfect in every way. Adopt, don’t shop!

I’ll admit, I was hesitant and skeptical about meeting strangers in a parking lot in a big city for an exchange, but this rescue is the REAL DEAL! Communication was amazing! Kimberly is so positive, friendly, and full of great energy! I love the mission of this rescue! My Frenchie was exactly what I was looking for and she described his demeanor, preferences, and personality without error! For a rescue with so many dogs, I can tell Kimberly really gets to know them and puts forth the efforts to place them in perfectly matched families. I will never go anywhere else for my canine family members!

Kim was great to work with and always quick to respond to our questions. The application process was straightforward, and we received approval the same day. We will be checking with Second Chance Rescue first when we decide to get Roo a friend. Thanks for the great work that you do and for bringing us Roo. She is so sweet and a wonderful addition to our family.

We recently adopted a small dog from Second Chance Rescue of Hardy that had been saved from a puppy mill. As with most puppy mill dogs she had not been socialized, was difficult and needed one year of socialization to become adoptable. She is now a wonderful little dog and part of our family. My wife adores her. We will always be grateful to the people at Second Chance for the work, time and effort they put into saving this sweet little dog instead of giving up on her. Good job everybody.

We got our puppy from here about a month ago. I was skeptical it was a scam but they are a legit company and do transport the dogs. Kimberly did great with communication until after we paid her and then she only would text for necessary things, but not when I would ask for extra pictures or to Facetime and see our dog (as the websites states you can). We are so thankful for our pup but he came in really rough shape (matted hair, grown out finger nails, an ear infection in both ears, severely malnourished, and obviously traumatized). I understand they have lots of dogs they’ve rescued but they can’t manage to take care of them all, making them not much different from a mill.

They may want to help mistreated animals but they are not set up to do everything their website implies. We adopted a small breed because we travel a lot and wanted to be able to take her with us. Kim said she was surrendered by a breeder. She approved me over the phone. Then main focus was on payment. She promised to send pictures and do a live chat. I trusted her and paid. Money rec'd silence for 4 days. She never sent pictures Would not answer the phone. Voicemail is always full. Dog Bio shy at first warms up quickly and loves leisurely walks spayed all shots located in Illinois but was actually in Arkansas. Told they were going to transport I was hesitant, but she assured me they do this and do not hire out. Transport was set up for the end of January. She cancelled transport and rescheduled for mid February. We drove to Arkansas to get her. 12 hours. Not allowed at the rescue facility. Had to meet at a park. She pulled her out of the crate. Looked nothing like picture. I asked her how long she had the dog, she replied 6 months. This dog was so matted it was ridiculous. She was definitely not taken care of. She told me that her 10 yr old daughter gave her a bath the night before. She should never have given her a bath as she had dissolvable stitches from her spay. She was supposed to bring the food that she had been feeding her and told me she forgot. I told her that she would need to go back and get it as I didn’t have the food she was feeding and would need to transition her to a new food. She had me follow her to Dollar General where she was buying some cheap Purina food. She was not spayed until the week before we picked her up and given 2 immunizations. Rabies and Bordetella. No parvo/distemper or heartworm test. I had to reach out to local vet to get the dogs’ records. 6 mos in their care and never taken to the vet. She was definitely not taken care of. As we drove home she sat on my lap. Stopped for gas took her to potty and she freaked out on the leash. We finally got her back in the car. Tried to call rescue. No answer. She texted me. I asked how they take them out to potty during transport they don’t. They clean up the messes in the crates and keep going. You should know that your dog will be in crate for 2 days without being let out. I was given a traumatized dog that I'm not sure will ever be able to travel. She will have a long road ahead of her with a behavioral trainer. They should have never misrepresented this dog. She needed to be adopted by someone who has the time to invest to make her better. Website does not show one picture of the facility. I have reached out numerous times to them with no response. I'm sure there are others out there that got scammed just as we did.

Second Chance Rescue of Hardy is an outstanding puppy rescue organization based in Arkansas, and my family and I couldn't be happier with our experience. We had the privilege of working with Kimberley, who is an exceptionally kind and compassionate lady. She guided us through the process of adopting our gorgeous Australian Shepherd puppy, Buzz.Kimberley's dedication to the well-being of these rescue puppies is truly heartwarming. Her knowledge, patience, and genuine love for animals shone through every step of the adoption process. She ensured that Buzz found his forever home with us, and we are forever grateful for her efforts.Second Chance Rescue of Hardy is a beacon of hope for puppies in need, and Kimberley is the embodiment of their mission. Our family is now complete with Buzz, thanks to this remarkable rescue and the wonderful people like Kimberley who make it all possible. We highly recommend Second Chance Rescue of Hardy to anyone looking to adopt a furry family member.

I received Finn (formerly Barkley) on September 8th. Communication day of was amazing! I wish I would’ve gotten a few more updates with pictures within the month from date of purchase to day of pickup(just for peace of mind since he was purchased prior to meeting), but also completely understand that it’s a rescue so I know how busy and overwhelming it can be to be handling all the other things going on. I was working so my partner picked him up for me.Within the first week, Finn’s personality started to come out once he realized he was home for good. He’s done amazing, and I took him to his first vet checkup today and they gave him a clean bill of health. He had received the mandatory vaccines/neutered/microchip as promised from Second Chance Rescue of Hardy, I just opted to add on a few extra vaccines since I do live in the busy city. All this to say, I am extremely happy with my purchase overall, we love Finn and everyone who has met him so far has been so impressed with his behavior being how new he is. He’s adjusting amazing, and Kim has checked in the last few weeks too to see how we’re doing which I appreciate. I’m so thankful that this rescue is willing to transport and find good families for their dogs ❣️

Update:I posted on their FB and guess what they deleted my comment and blocked me from their page. Find it funny how they are too busy to return calls and texts but my FB post was deleted within a minute along with blocking my account. Why would I waste my time criticizing this place on social media? All I’m asking is for our refund or at least a response on when it’ll be issued. It’s been 3 months no response what so ever very unprofessional and needs to be held accountable! We’ve tried to reach out numerous times with no response. I get it they are busy with no staff to help but unacceptable for not responding to any texts or calls. We paid for the adoption fee but was unable to move foward with the adoption a few weeks after and notified Kimberly immediately in Nov. She told us Baboo had multiple requests and would get adopted fairly quickly and issue the fee refund. It is going over 3 months with no sign of his listing for adoption and no response from the owner. Hope they read this and resolve/issue the refund immediately.

I adopted my boston terrier puppy from across the country and had a great experience. The rescue was communicative and quick and helpful in my transport planning.

Never get a return phone call. Had a poor pup that was dumped and was trying to get it to help. 2nd time with a situation like this and not even a call back. Shameful!
