My fiancé and I live in Wisconsin and I have volunteered with rescues here in the North who often pull dogs from Southern shelters where overcrowding is a very significant issue. We were interested in adopting another dog into our family and decided we wanted to look into shelters that were currently full in the South. We came across the Humane Society of Independence County in Arkansas. Their website was very easy to use and their adoptable animals were clearly listed. We fell in love with a puppy named “Benny” now known as “Arthur”. We applied online and within a few hours we received communication back from the shelter notifying us we were approved for adoption and to discuss details. The application was simple but thorough. This humane society was spectacular! They were easy to communicate with, professional and prompt. They were extremely accommodating as they knew we would be traveling from Wisconsin to Arkansas (about a 12 hour drive). We traveled to Arkansas on May 15th and picked up Arthur on May 16th, 2022. We met with the foster parents who were incredibly kind and clearly gave their fosters so much love! The shelter staff were friendly and they provided us with updated vaccine and medical information about Arthur so that we can provide it to our vet for his initial puppy exam. Arthur came neutered and up to date on all age appropriate vaccines. He is a very happy, healthy, playful boy and we have only known him a few days but we love him so much already. Our experience working with the Humane Society of Independence County was a 10/10. We would recommend adopting from them to anyone who is looking for a pet companion. It’s obvious they care about their animals! Their shelter is full so please adopt from them! We couldn’t have gotten a better puppy or experience. Thank you to all who helped us find our Arthur!

Every single staff member that I met, which was at least 6 different people, was helpful, knowledgeable, and flexible. I had been researching which types of breeds/ mixes I thought would fit in best with my cat, grandchildren, and other family dogs. Then when I was ready I went in search of the ONE! Several other shelters/ humane societies wouldn't even let me meet or look at a dog in person without having an application approved first, supposedly due to COVID. That process can take days! This is not an impulse "buy". Remember I've been researching for weeks. It's Saturday. I'm off work. I want a dog. It shouldn't be so hard. The professionals at the Humane Society of Independence County truly operate to help people find pets and help pets find homes. They checked my references and got all the necessary information, but they also let me meet and pet and look at all the dogs I wanted until we all got to know each other well enough that I got a new walking buddy and she gets to have car rides and pup treats from Sonic and shop at Tractor Supply! If you want to find a pet or fur baby or best friend, go see them. They're honest about the animals they have. One of the most telling signs was when I "borrowed the dog" to let her meet my cat then took her (the dog) back to the shelter for a previously arranged vet appointment, she ran to one of her caretakers, climbed onto the bench beside her, and covered her with kisses. Even though I took her (the dog) out of a kennel for a couple of days, bought her toys, and took her for walks, she was still more happy to see one of the people who has diligently cared for her and loved her for months. I got a look like "Who are you again? Oh yeah! Thanks for the fun weekend. I'm back home now. " These people are wonderful!

Everyone is BEYOND KIND and helpful. We were going to ADOPT River but we were just a little too late. I have never been to a rescue where everyone is SO KIND. They are doing stuff right here.

I just adopted a kitten from them and you can tell how much they care for these animals. (Samson is doing great, by the way! ❤️). I'm disabled & don't drive so they brought the little bundle to me and I'm so grateful. Highly recommend this place.

I adopted my girl from this shelter. The staff was super helpful and answered any questions I had. She had a rough first night (couldn't keep any food down, and she was already underweight) and the staff and I were on the phone about every two hours trying to figure out what the best thing to do was. I really appreciated their help! The building itself is as clean as it can be considering the fact that there are many animals living there. I have had her for two months now and she is my whole world!

My wife and I rescued a beautiful loving golden doodle. Within having her for one day we took her to get groomed and she had fleas and ticks and possibly heart worm. All that being said her paperwork shows that she had all her treatments for all of them done for the month. They also said she was in foster care before we got her and she 1. Was not house broken and it’s hard to believe that anyone would take in a non-housebroken dog to foster 2. Has extreme separation anxiety and we’ve only had her for a total of 28 hours 3. The amount of matted hair that she had was completely unacceptable and should have been taken care of as soon as she was accepted into the humane society. All this being said, we will be returning her as soon as we can. We are both extremely heartbroken but cannot afford to address all of the above and some unstated underlying issues, nor can we afford the time to spend with here to take care of all of these issues. If you are looking to adopt a dog/ puppy from this shelter please and I beg you PLEASE make sure all the information is correct before you even sign the paperwork and pay them. It will save you a lot of money and time and heartbreak.

I live near Chicago and found a puppy that interested me at this location through a puppy search website. I filled out the application and within a day, I was contacted and had scheduled a virtual interview. I was chosen to adopt and drove over 9 hours the next weekend to get her. Once we arrived in town, I was able to schedule a visit with the pup prior to pickup so she wasn’t so traumatized the next morning when we started our trek back to Illinois. It was love at 1st sight. The staff was very friendly and informative while we visited. Pick up the next morning was effortless. Once home, I took the pup in for a checkup to find she was perfectly healthy. We’ve had our puppy for a little over a week now. She is so perfect for my family. I am super pleased with my experience with the Humane Society of Independence County.

We got my Gene here when she was almost a year old. She already knew her name and was potty trained. That was super impressive to me that they taught her this. They also provided us with food and a leash. Gene was the best dog I’ve ever had and my dad said the same. Unfortunately she passed this week at 14 years old but I just wanted to get on here and say please adopt your next best friend. She was mine for nearly 14 years. I also know the humane society does bark in the park and that event is super awesome. I’d suggest you check that out if you never have.

Just went in there to bring a dog in that was on side of the road and didn't want it to get hit. I was told to go take the dog back because they couldn't help me. I said what if it gets ran over and the lady just shrugged her shoulders like not my problem. I was like wow and this is a NO KILL shelter but your not willing to save a dog from possibly getting ran over on the highway going towards Cave City. Surely there was something that could be done instead of feeding her own face.

Such an amazing and helpful shelter! I enjoy stopping by often to interact with their animals, their free-roam cat room is such a great way to get to know your cat in a better way than just seeing them through a cage. Their dogs are in cages but they have plenty of room and even a yard that they can constantly go out into. This shelter even has a TNR program in which they take local feral cats for check-ups and that is so awesome. Would recommend indefinitely!

The staff were super nice. They really do care about the animals they adopt out. I adopted a dog 4 months ago and recently took her in to go get more flea medicine. All the workers remembered her from when she was a little puppy and fawned over her. Clean facility when taking into account how many animals are there. A great place to adopt from!

In process of moving. During our last winter storm there was no one living full time at the house. The humane society kindly took our dog in for 2 days to be sure the dog was cared for during this emergency.

I’m sure it’s mostly because they are understaffed, but they lead me on for 6 weeks about a pup in Paws in Prison. I went through the application process and was told to wait for a meet and greet following the pup’s graduation. During the 6-week wait, I reached out several times for updates with minimal response and lack of communication. Then they emailed me on graduation day saying they had already homed him without ever having a meet and greet. They should have just told me they already had made a decision of his new home, rather than leading me on about something that was never going to happen. I will not be working with this facility in the future.

I am very impressed with independence County humane society.. I own for every dog rescue in Hardy and needed to do repairs on my rescue, when I couldn't get fosters the Humane society stepped up and fosters half of my dogs.. they have a great building and wonderful loving staff and volunteers..

We adopted Ford about a month ago. He is the sweetest and smartest pup around. Ford's personality is finally showing. He loves to play, pull the bark off of sticks, plays fetch with balls but still loves his sticks more, he has already learned several commands, and he loves to cuddle. He even smiles.As for the shelter...It was clean, the animals were well taken care of. I've never seen a shelter with a cat room where they can roam and play or a play yard outside for the dogs like I did here.The staff was very helpful and answered a ton of questions that we had. They actually took their time and talked to my son instead of rushing us trough. The girls were so sweet and were so happy that Ford chose is and we chose him that we got hugs and there were many happy tears. These girls love each and every one of those animals! We will be bringing Ford in to see them soon.I highly recommend this place when looking for a pet. I have always believed that rescuing a pet from the shelter is better than buying a purebred.

I adopted my sweet puppy from HSIC in 2017. The staff were friendly and and courteous and explained the adoption process to me and what all she had been treated for during her time at the shelter. We even got some goodies to take home with us too. I live in Little Rock so it was a bit of a drive for me, but it was so totally worth it to get my pup and have such a great experience adopting an animal.

Excellent place to adopt an animal. The staff truly, truly cares about the animals, and it shows. Always willing to help where they can, and in a professional manner. They donate food to those who cannot afford to feed their animals, and do everything they can to help out as much as possible. True they cannot afford to take in every stray animal, for lack of space, but believe me, they wish they could. This place rocks.

It was awesome. They had so many beautiful dogs and cats! There was a basset hound/pit mix I wanted him sooo bad! A litter of lil pittie babies omg so adorable!!! Also a pittie/frenchie mix so sweet!!! Heck I'd take them all if I could lol so if your looking for a sweet loyal fur baby please go to the humane society these babies need loves and happiness 💖💖💖

There were 3 people when I walked in all talking to one person after about twenty minutes of them chatting I finally interrupted and asked if I could leave 3 kittens that had been dumped on us. Well they were full up and could not help. Their cats sell for 90.00 and they wonder why they are not able to move them. The shelter smells horrible and is filthy the worst I have ever seen. I know I will never drop any more change or help them in any way. I only wish for better for the poor animals.

This is a very good humane society. The taking well care of the animals. Medicating, bathing, walking and all around great care. They seem to really love the animals. We have adopted now two cats from them.

Concerned more with making money than they are taking better care of their animals. They go so far as to write employees up for being too affectionate toward the animals there, even when their job is still getting done. Have adopted two puppies who have died within two or three days of leaving the shelter of parvovirus which they had prior to adoption. My vet isn't even a fan.Another note- they dont update their business hours or websites as often or as professionally as they should.

Anyone who goes there soon, please adopt Arrow. He is the absolute best and I love him. This cat Tia is just one of the 30-something cats at The Humane Society. Fred is the best cat ever, he loves getting rubbed but not really being held for too long. If you guys see this, just know that you guys are the best, for helping these animals. If my grandpa lets me, I am adopting Arrow. Thank you Jonathan(Butchered the spelling probably), I don't know the main Dog Lady's name, or main Cat Lady's but thank you to both of you. And yes I was a volunteer for the past 2 days.

Never any help. I'm not talking once or twice, but since I can remember. For at least 20 years or more. Saved dogs from getting ran over in the street and they threatened to call the cops on me! For saving the thing and trying to re-connect it with its family...And yes I have thought of helping out. To the point the best way is to open another "Re-homing" no profit animal shelter. I am working on it. I understand limited resources, and it probably more of the Governments fault you can't do more. But that doesn't mean you still are no help when people need it. It's just a sad fact of our current time and hope it changes.

These amazing girls helped us get a kitten out from under the hood of our car. We agreed to name the beautiful kitten Nissan after the car it was found in. Go out and adopt a fur baby from these amazing girls!!!! God Bless what you do.
