Mandy is excellent. I adopted my sun conure from AZ bird rescue. Shes always great with the birds and is super patient. She also is just fun to talk to. Highly recommend adopting a bird than buying a new one! She has some amazing birds.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVERThe lady at the counter thinks she’s funny with her snide remarks - when she’s absolutely not.She insists that everyone signs in on a clipboard, but doesn’t ensure the clipboard is in an accessible area or that there’s an order of sign-in respected. She will try to ring out a customer on the register, while rudely engaging in conversation but being of zero actual help or assistance.

Mandy has been helping my daughter learn how to care for birds for the past 6 years. She has been a great mentor and has gone above and beyond what a mentor would do. She is one of the most dedicated people I know as well as one of the nicest people you’ll meet. We are very fortunate to have found this establishment and will continue to support them as long as we are living in the area.

Mandy loves birds. She knows exotic birds. We got our 2nd Cockatiel today from her. 1st one we've had for 8 years going strong. Wanted another and got a sweet one today.

My first experience with this rescue was when one of my cockatiels passed away. I didn't want my other tiel to be alone so I called this rescue to see if they had cockatiels available for adoption. The lady that runs the store, supposedly an adoption center, literally yelled at me & accused me of wanting to breed the cockatiels and refused to help me. I've owned pet birds for over 20 plus years and all have lived long lives but I didn't want to breed them. I was already devasted with the loss of my tiel and discouraged by this lady's behavior that I decided to wait and look elsewhere.I've since gone in to this "rescue" to purchase seed only because it's the only place that carried the brand my tiels like. Nobody was in the store and I noticed that the woman running the rescue was in her car. I went in and decided to visit the birds. My heart broke when I went from cage to cage looking at the beautiful but depressed birds available. Just thinking about it brings tears to my eyes. They look like they have no interaction with anyone and lack attention they desperately need. The owner came back in as I was ready to leave and yelled at the lady cleaning the cages reminding her to make sure the cages were locked everytime she finished cleaning them.Honestly, if I had the space I'd adopt every bird there just to take them away from her. I hope the poor birds aren't being used for the wrong reason ($).

I am surprised by the reviews so I want to add my experience for your reference.I’ve been visiting the rescue for bird supplies for at least 5 years now, since they were in the larger, previous location. Mandy has always been helpful and knowledgeable, she’s given me advice that helped my birds.I’ve never brought the birds in, because I do the birds’ grooming myself at home.If you’re considering getting a pet bird for the first time, I want to point out how it’s a slightly different commitment than a dog. Supplies for cats and dogs are much easier to shop for than birds. One of my birds gets sick from seed mix from the grocery store. I find large pet stores and online stores can have drastically fluctuating prices and availability. I have had a consistent experience buying healthy food, treats, and toys here for years.

Customer service poor!! Point of view— rescue bird price’s are ridiculous even if it comes with a Cage !! I wouldn’t buy birds here I feel that they overcharge for “rescuing a bird”, that was owned by a previous owner & who knows how they were here for previously handed, but that’s a risk one would take any rescue, but still☹️☹️ I wanted to rescue a bird, but I couldn’t afford a six year old bird for 800 however! . In my opinion, I found Better prices somewhere else for younger birds and they are hand tamed…/ better tempered, and reasonably priced! Plus they have better customer service@ Arizona bird store off of S Dobson.. overall the place was clean, @ az exotic birds store and it has beautiful scenery outside.. the owner of the store made it clear with her eye rolling that she was not in the mood for anyone. So I left and didn’t buy anything nor did I want to look at the birds after she rolled her eyes after I asked if I could see the birds in the back. Anyways, rant over.

I would give a zero… but it’s not available! The owner took my bird in the back to trim its beak. She didn’t mention she would use a drill instead of a file. She killed my bird!!!Took her 30 minutes to come out and tell me and my children! I donated all of my bird supplies and cages to an authentic rescue and they informed me it wasn’t the first time that has happened there! The picture is very similar to my bird , but very very close!

If I could give her a zero I would, she kept pushing us to buy an ecltus for $800.00, ( senior bird, no we didn't buy the bird)she takes in rescue birds....however she resells them, for what she charges that's NOT an adoption fee but a resale price she does NOT have any of the birds she takes in vet checked, this is very well known in the bird community. I got my 1st rescue from Fallen Feathers in Peoria, a true rescue that is a 501C3, licensed by fish and game, all the owner asks is volunteer time and let the bird choose you.

Extreamly rude and false advertized says you have a contract with her tells you to bring the bird back to re wheigh it and shaves the birds beek and trims the nails than lets your bird fly away for you to go catch it yourself into all the wholes in the wall thats there and tells you in a contract she never sends you have to bring it back to do the same thing every six weeks

Stopped by to check out the store and the birds they had up for adoption. Its a family run buisness and the women I talked to was super sweet. She was very knowledgeable and you could tell she really loved those birds. It made me very confident that they were well taken care of and loved, even if they were just being boarded temporarily. The prices were super great and the selection was huge! I would absolutly recommend them to anyone looking into bird adoption or just general bird products. Definitely top of my list for adoption options and grabbing any items for my birds.

I know my Birdie came from a terrible place so he didn't look his best. Birds here are sad not sick. Staffs is short but worth the wait. Mandy is personable and warm. I had a bird in mind after speaking with her I realized that bird wasn't for me. There was a Birdie better suited and I fell in love with him. My boy gets everything he needs here grooming is different my Birdie iscomfortable. Arizona Exotic Bird Rescue is a special place. There are so many unwanted birds please RESCUE don't buy from a Breeder.

I have been a customer at AZ Exotic Bird Rescue for years. I take my African Grey in regularly to get groomed. Mandy is amazing with him. My guy can be very moody and sometimes pinch a hole in her shirt as she is giving him love and affection. His demeanor quickly changes as he knows he safe and in good hands just as I do. Mandy does a great job assessing his needs for a trim and has never hurt him. It's always been a positive experience! Keep in mind this is a bird rescue. Just like any other rescue....it has to be a good fit for the bird and you. Also, if you are seeing dirty cages...birds make a constant mess. This is not a boutique store. It's a rescue run by an amazing and caring woman. There's a lot of work to be done each and every day. Mandy and the volunteers do everything possible to keep the rescue running. It saddens me to see such hate in the other reviews. Maybe offer to volunteer if you think you could do better. As for people commenting about birds plucking. These are rescues that lost a loved one for one reason or another and tend to pluck out of emotion not because they are not well cared for. I have boarded my bird multiple times without issues and I will continue to go back to this wornderful rescue.

Very happy to see a bird rescue here.We get to visit with Murphy and see that he is well taken care of.Have been in about 4-5 times in the past two years and have spent a long time each visit.the owner was always welcoming and friendly to my children and me.I've only ever had positive experiences buying supplies, getting wing and beak trims for a donation price.Have overheard the owner being extremely helpful with other customers while checking out the adoptable birds and interacting with volunteers.I don't understand all the negative reviews. Seems like vindictiveness.Don't see any problem with a rescue asking a lot of questions about adopting out abandoned animals.if you have a pet bird you know how sensitive they are. They are intelligent and even get their feelings hurt and become depressed.I'm sure she's seen enough mistreatment and is rightfully skeptical about who they go home with.Owner probably is trying to avoid dealing with the occasional inevitable flakes.Don't mind paying a little higher price for toys and food because it goes toward the care and feeding of homeless birds.I'm a customer who saw negative reviews while I was checking on the hours of operation this morning.People need to get over themselves and realize taking care of helpless creatures is Noble.

I first came here during the pandemic to purchase a harness & leash for my cockatiel and ended up also purchasing a face mask for covid that were on display for sale for $10. Mandy (the owner/caretaker) made them herself and were super cute. There was only one harness & leash set left in size petite and I wasn’t sure if it was the right size and didn’t know how to properly put it on my bird but Mandy took the time to show me how to put it on, which was confusing to me because I didn’t know the first thing about how to do it because I was a new bird parent altogether and was just barely learning about cockatiels but Mandy was super nice and patient with me. I ended up having her clip Picachu’s wings & trim his nails and all she asked for was a donation of whatever I could afford & didn’t charge me anything for the service. She called me about 6 weeks later as a courtesy to remind me Picachu was due for another grooming which I set an appointment with her for the following week. From then on I brought Picachu in regularly to get him groomed & we both adore Mandy. She is very knowledgable about all bird species and I have learned so much from her. Shortly after, I hit a rough spot in life & wasn’t able to properly care for Picachu & a 2nd cockatiel I had acquired as a friend fir Picachu named Chibi, because I suddenly had to move. I called Mandy & asked if she could take them temporarily until I get back on my feet because I didn’t want to surrender them, I just needed temporary housing for them and she took them in and I don’t know what I would’ve done without her, she literally was a godsend for me and my loving cockatiels and I am forever grateful for her help during our time of need and everything she had taught me about birds in general. I highly recommend her for grooming & boarding services and also for adopting or god forbid you have to surrender your feathered friend, Arizona Exotic Bird Rescue truly is there to come to your rescue and Mandy is my savior!

not only stressed out birds but the woman who owns the store wants you to die in front of her very openly with the way she talks to you

Just like everybody else, I'd give this place a 0 star rating. Rude is an understatement to describe the owner. She didn't even possess the slightest bit of professionalism; that's why calling her unprofessional would be a compliment. It didn't seem like she cared much for anything other than to sit down at her desk all day and be of no help. You have to call for her, like Big Bird, to get help. I was disgusted with the way she approaches her human interactions, which makes sense considering why other people were walking out of there, unsatisfied, after dealing with her. And why she's received so many 1 (or 0) star reviews on this board. She calls herself the "mother" of these birds. I only wish her the best of luck in selling her "children" for profit. You're better of catching a bird in your backyard than to give this "rescue" your business or time.

If I could give this place zero stars that’s what I would give it. The birds need to be rescued from this so called rescue. The owner is extremely rude and the cages are dirty with dirty water and food bowls. All of the birds are plucking and are very stressed. So unprofessional and The so-called volunteers knew nothing about the birds. It seems that you can only adopt a bird if the owner feels like you’re worthy to do so based on her own personal reasons not what’s best for the birds. Absolutely a disgusting experience. I would not recommend this place to anybody and it should be shut down. I feel so bad for those birds. Please look over other reviews before taking your birds here.

I was just rejected as an applicant even though I have a lifetime of experience with birds. And wanted to adopt a senior bird....The reason given was that I live too far to bring it in for grooming (I am about 60 miles away). Not even asking if I could, just flat out rejection. However, I now understand that the real reason was the I made it very clear that I will not clip my bird's wings, nor ever would I do that. So obviously "grooming" to them (which I couldn't understand what they meant? I give them regular baths, and keep their beaks and nails trimmed when necessary which does not necessitate stressing my birds out for a 1.5 hour car ride) meant actually mutilating them. No thanks. Sorry for the birds that are under your care. Hope they all find good homes.

I've been coming here for many years. This rescue has evolved over the years to better locations each time. I wasn't sure about this newest location but it keeps evolving for the better each time I come here to purchase things. The rescue is clean, the bird cages are clean, the birds always have clean cages, and food containers. The owners are knowledgeable and care deeply about the birds. The volunteers can be hit or miss at times. It can be heartbreaking to see how people have mistreated some of the birds the rescue has received. I would recommend the bird trimming services for nails and beaks. I've never been disappointed with the trim services or the advice I have received from this place for the care of my parrots. I buy all of my bird food and toys from here. The prices are good, the advice is good and the services are dependable. I appreciate that this rescue is still around and keeps improving.

Mandy was very personable, knowledgeable and caring. The birds were all kept in freshly cleaned cages, well fed and watered. We're picking up our new friend Lila ,the blue and gold macaw tomorrow. We would highly recommend AZEBR. All you haters out there must have been having a bad day during your visit!

I had a great experience adopting a bird from this rescue. The owner was kind and informative, she let me spend a lengthy amount of time with the bird I chose, to make sure we were a fit.

The rescue is small and only a few members are there every day to help take care of the birds that have been surrendered. Some birds were surrendered after living in stressful conditions or having an illness, and the rescue does the best with what they have to help the birds recover and find a new home. All staff are unpaid volunteers, and the owner Mandy is very dedicated to keeping the rescue going every day! Some volunteers may seem to keep to themselves, but they are there to help the birds, not be salesmen.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Adoptions: There are two rooms with birds, one room is a boarding service room and is labeled for staff only. The other room has the birds that are up for adoption, and Murphy, the store mascot.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Products: The rescue has toys and food for sale, the proceeds of course go to supplies and food for the birds at the rescue. There are even hand-made toys to brighten up your bird's cage and add some interesting textures and shapes for them to play with.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Grooming: Mandy has been running the rescue for a very long time and is experienced with grooming. She's careful when trimming nails and beaks, and seems to keep good relationships with the gentlefolk that keep coming back--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------When you enter the store, you'll be greeted by Mandy. She's usually busy making calls for products or general rescue maintenance, but she does the best she can to make sure all questions are answered. She keeps an eye out, in case it looks like someone might want help while they are looking around.

Words can't describe the wonderful service they provide. These are people who have dedicated their lives to taking care of birds, and they are doing an excellent job. Yes, birds cost money to adopt because, spoiler alert, rent isn't free just because you're a nonprofit. Their prices are as good or better than any bird store in town, and they don't support breeders, only owner surrenders and rescues.Anyone wanting to help out should come volunteer! They are wonderful people doing amazing work, and they can use all the help they can get.

This facility is beyond atrocious. The owner, Mandy, is quite rude, and when we brought our bird in for boarding, along with the food we wanted him to be given, Mandy accused my mother of stealing the food when there was only half in the bag and she realized it was not even sold in the store. That should have been a red flag but we disregarded it. I picked my bird up after a week, and found that his feet were quite sore after the grooming we had requested. We had had our bird groomed in other places before, and this never happened, but now my bird topples over and can't stand from pain, with his feet being warm from inflammation. In addition, his beak is agitated, and again, we've had his beak groomed at other facilities before with no issues, and now he is constantly favoring it. This place has no business calling itself a bird rescue with its horrid treatment of both people and birds.

I wasn’t going to write a review but I am very upset about my experience yesterday. I called to speak with a woman who knew my father. My father had 5 birds from this place, and passed away last week. I live in Maryland, but made a promise to my dad to care for these birds! The woman put me on hold for ten min to come back and say I need approval from the woman who surrendered them! What?! So a stranger can adopt them but I have to have approval from someone who gave them up to keep my promise to my dad? I understand I would have had to pay for boarding until I arrived in Arizona, but I was more than willing to do so. My dad had a lot of trust in this place and I am so incredibly saddened and disappointed that this is the outcome.

Sorry no pictures. I was so excited with all the birds did not think of it. Before I start, I want to give a big thank you to AZ Exotic Bird Rescue for what this place does every day and trying their best to not leave a bird homeless. It is very hard, expensive, time consuming, and a lot of patience to take care of one bird or parrot. So just, imagine 10 or more wow! I am glad that there is a place like Az Bird Rescue willing to take homeless birds. Places like this do not make tons of money and most of the time they are pulling from their own pocket. So please please donate what you can. Parrots live for 20+ years and most are not so lucky to have a forever home. Some people buy parrots and not know what they got into until it is too late (too loud do not know how to train). Owners have life issue where they have to give up the bird or get ill and pass away. If it were not for this place, where would these parrots and birds go?My experience: I went to AZ Exotic Birds looking for a certain species of parrot. I go by the adopt before you decide to buy tactic for all animals I take home. I wanted to see their beautiful Yellow ringneck, which by the way is available for adoption. When I got in, they welcomed me right away and asked what they could help me with. They brought out the ringneck for me. What a great bird she still needs some work and more loving but will come around. The employees sorry horrible with remembering names were all awesome very knowledgeable. If you are thinking about getting a bird stop here first and hangout, it will help and maybe you will find your next feathered friend. All the cages were clean and the ones that needed cleaning were getting ready for cleaning while I was there. All the birds I saw were in great condition and happy. They do provide Nail clipping and Boarding if needed. I really recommend people that read this to visit this place even if you do not own a bird and just want something to do. They have baggies with Almonds that you can purchase right there to give to the bird. Remember the birds appreciate the attention also.AZ Exotic Bird Rescue YOU ROCK!! Keep doing what you are doing

First visit today (4/8/2015) - what a wonderful facility! Took my birdies for grooming. Tyler was very gentle and caring. Although they don't charge for grooming, a 'donation' is certainly appreciated. The staff were very friendly and helpful - gave a tour and explained the different areas. The rescue birds appear to be very well taken care of - designated areas for them to be out of their cages, clean, volunteers to socialize with them - very impressive. It was a great experience...please consider using them for boarding or grooming - all proceeds go towards the care of the rescue birds.

We went there with the intentions of possibly rescuing a small parrot. At first we were happy with the staff and we hoping to be a part of the rescue efforts they seemed so dedicated to. We were shown a Quaker who was a sweetheart but not quite what we were looking for. When questioning the staff about other possible adoption options it seemed as if their attitudes changed and we started seeing a different side of them. Every question we asked was returned with an answer or look making us feel stupid. When asking about a bird we liked and if we could take it out of its cage, one staff member refused to help, stating she doesn't want to "deal" with this particular breed and to go talk to some one else. When finally given the okay to interact with the ring neck, another staff member stated, in a snooty voice, that these birds are mean and walked away. We could not believe what she said, there was no attempt to explain the birds demeanor and what it would need as far as care and rehab. As we started walking out, the staff member who previously refused to help told us she refuses to handle the ring necks because she they bite.I'm sorry but if you truly are dedicated to these birds, then you run the risk of being bitten and accept those risks. To discourage a customer who was interested in adopting a particular bird does not seem to fit with the stores goals.

We were researching exotic birds for a pet and called the rescue. They said to come up and learn! We did and for the next year we spent time learning about the birds and helping out where we could. We've never seen such dedication to an animal as these guys showed to all the birds that came through their doors. GO. If you have questions. GO see them. They are all about educating the public on what it truly means to have a feathered family member. You won't be sorry for having spent time up there. If you are already a bird family, go up there to buy your supplies. Their prices are MUCH cheaper than anywhere else. They have all different types of food, toys, cages, etc. They have an education area where you can watch dvds and read books/articles on birds. They host lots of events where you can ask questions of experts. They do grooming up there. So much there at their new, larger facility. You won't be sorry you went. :)
