This is an amazing site of ancient cliff dwellers. Montezuma castle up close. The climb feels very steep. Rises 350 ft over a half mile up. The trail is easy and paved the whole way with benches to rest at. A ranger is on site to answer questions. The view is gorgeous. I saw small children, and those in terrible hiking shoes do well but I would give yourself an hour to get up and back.

Hike is short but steep and there is no shade. Make sure you bring water and dress appropriately.Park rangers were very friendly and the entire path is paved.

A fun steep walk up, but worth it at the top. This was the first time I've been able to enter ancient dwellings. The path is steep but definitely doable for all levels, it might just be a longer journey. The path has reading cards, benches, cacti, and beautiful views of the lake. At the top there was a staff member to guide you around, answer questions, and share photos. The staff person we had was easy to talk to and knowledgeable. All in all a great time. We went in the middle of January and enjoyed one of the few snow days, so something to plan for if you're visiting in the winter. Down the road about a mile is a view point for the upper dwellings. We couldn't see them for the fog, but usually they're clear and easy to find. There are tours that go up there in the cooler months, but you have to book in advance.

40 ppl used to live here, not too long ago. Why did they leave? No one knows, check out the city on your own with 1 mile hike, see the doors, touch kitchen tools, talk about animals nearby, it's a short and sweet walk with lots of benches along the way. Oops, don't touch cacti!

I love historic cliff dwellings and this was no exception. On exception is I showed up at the Monument with a hurt wrist and in a lot of pain. Ranger Sarah or maybe spelled Sara was so kind and caring. Looked at my wrist and saw swelling. Got me an Ace bandage and ice. Talk about above and beyond. Thank you. (In today's world, this has to be said... she didn't diagnose me... just helped me relieve the pain and told me to seek medical help.) Thank you again! ❤️Me being me, I applied the ice and started up the trail to the cliff house. So amazing. Met 4 people working there and ALL were super friendly, all very cheerful, informative and very attentive to their work.Sara was swearing in two young female Junior Rangers when I left. How awesome is that! 🤠🤠

We were here about a year ago. I love all history. These lower dwelling are small but very easy access! If you want to see them but can’t walk there is a paved ramp to get you close! You can go in the dwellings and the view is great! Up for more adventure? Call the park to set up a hike to the upper dwellings!

Nature always gets a 5 in my reviews, but we were not permitted to walk the trail to the cliff dwellings. No explanation was given. We arrived at 1:30. Public posted information gives the trail access time as 8am - 4pm on both their website and placard at the park entrance. We drove 2.5 hours and were sorely disappointed. Our time was not completely wasted as we were able to visit nearby Lake Roosevelt.

My second time visiting, and again I'm struck by the natural beauty of this place. The short hike to the dwelling is through a really magnificent all-natural cactus garden. Staff at both the Visitor Center and the dwelling were really friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy answering our questions. I liked it so much I'm making plans to visit the Upper Cliff Dwelling soon. (Reservation required)

Nice views all the way to the top, once ontop you can clearly see for miles. It's only a half a mile hike but it's a tuff one, make sure you have your water, comfortable hiking shows and be prepare to stop and rest every now and then specially if your kids ask you to carry them lol.Very well worth it the hike and history you'll learn, sucks thatbthe name "Tonto" stuck though.

There's a steep hike up to the cliff dwellings that won't be a problem if you're in good shape. If not, you'll need to take it slow. The trail is paved and, there are plenty of places to stop and rest. Dogs are allowed on the trail, just not inside the dwellings. A ranger is on hand to answer questions. There are great views of Roosevelt Lake. It's best to visit during cold weather or, go early if the is going to be hot.

Such a cool, quiet and pristine place! They are doing a great work here preserving the site. Tons of information about life in the desert! If you want to visit the Upper Dwelling, be aware that you need to make a reservation for a guided tour in advance and it's a very long hike.

Amazing place. Not too crowded. $10 admission fee. The hike up wasn't bad at all. Paved and there are benches on the way up. Really nice stop.

Flowers are on full display on the wall up to the dwellings in late March. Bought some good books at the visitors center which help put perspective on the customs of the past inhabitants, helpful staff as usual and volunteers

I had a blast here! I didn't expect it to be so fun. It's about a 10 minute walk up from the Visitor's Center. The hike is on a paved concrete road. Along the way, there are benches to rest on (some shaded, some not). The Lower Cliff Dwelling is visible as you hike up that main trail on the right- you can see it tucked away in the mountain. The trail then takes you right into it. A guide sits there to answer questions. He was knowledgeable and helpful. There's also a book with some images to flip through of the pottery and the history. You can walk through each of the rooms in that dwelling. It a little under 10 minutes to walk through if you take your time and look around. As you look out, you are treated to nice views of the overlook of Roosevelt Lake.

It was a very hot day. We are older, and I have hip and back issues, so I use a cane. We slathered on high SPF sunblock and bug spray, wore (this is crucial) brimmed hats, and brought water and sports drinks. We took our time and caught our breath (harder at this elevation than usual) at every available bench and interpretive sign. There are plenty of those. It's steep. Not accessible to wheelchairs. There's a knowledgeable guide volunteer at the top. So worth the climb!
