Some gorgeous dogs are here that need homes and even a few puppies. This is a no-kill shelter. Please help these dogs and help the shelter make room for more.

Great experience getting our new pup here. large number of potential pets to see. staff was great through the whole process, yet it was simple and fast. The animals all seem to be happy and carried for.

Picked up our dog and WOW he smelled terrible and they even clipped me for $50 to bathe him. Now my dog has kennel cough. Do yourself a favor and don’t leave your pet there. Filthy filthy!!

We are such fans of the Humane Society, we adopted our puppy from them when we felt we were ready to welcome another fluff. They took the time to explain that since she was a puppy, we would have to wait for her to get her shots, so she will be safe, got her spayed and THEY EVEN GOT HER CHIPPED!!! I love the compassion and commitment they have for dogs and cats that don't get a fair opportunity

Their foster to adopt program is EXACTLY what every shelter should be doing. It's giving us the chance to make sure that Miss Luna fits in with the family. The staff very obviously loves the pups in their charge and they take the time to really help you get to know the pup you're interested in.

It was so clean and animals well cared for. We adopted a puppy and it adapted immediately. Soon we could tell she had been played with and already knew a lot if things.

I adopted "Becky" almost two years ago. Her name was Pulga at the time which meant FLEA. She was very scared and apprehensive towards people and other dogs. But she is now a happy dog that thinks everything.belongs to her. I have adopted two dogs from here and will never go anywhere else.

I love coming here!!! Everyone is so nice and almost always find something cute. Got my kids several books for their library. I've gotten throw pillows for only a dollar each. Quilts, purses, and a computer chair are only a few of the things I've bought here. At a very reasonable price, it's a great place to find what you didn't know you needed or wanted.

They work so earnestly and diligently to take care of strays and boarding dogs...but can never catch-up. They are severely underfunded by the County and it shows in the sad animals and stressed handlers who nevertheless persevere and show their wards love.

I adopted a beautiful puppy from your shelter. We named her Gabriella. She was my constant companion for years. She passed away too young. She loved rolling in the grass in Minnesota having never been on any.

Small little thrift store but pretty good prices. I bought a white leather double recliner which was in near perfect condition for $40. Brand new Christmas tree ornaments for $2.00 among others household items. The service was great and friendly. Kind of out of the way but well worth the visit.

Very great place. Staff are friendly and answer any questions you may have. I had my 73 pound Australian shepherd neutered for $100, were all the vets in town were charging $350+.

We adopted a male pug from here just 5 days ago. The people were very friendly and helpful. Frank (aka the pug) is very healthy and happy. We were told that he barks a lot well we didn't hear him bark for the first 4 days. Lol they sent him home with all his papers a food bowl and 3 new toys. I would recommend everyone who can to give to this Humane Society. They have a thrift store and all proceeds go towards the care of the animals. So if you have any items you no longer need please donate them to this facility.

It would be zero stars, if I could post that way: I called the Santa Cruz Humane Society yesterday afternoon to inquire about two dogs that looked promising to me. One had been already adopted. (Those are the "breaks". I was too late in a fair competition.) The second was still available. (Good.)Irma advised that she would hold the other for me to come in the following day (today). I drove more than 60 miles to get to their facility from where I live in AZ. I arrived well before noon.I patiently waited for Maria (who was at the front desk) to finish a phone call. She was pleasant and nice, but when I gave her the dog's name, she became shocked and said he had been adopted just a half hour before I arrived!!!She then advised me that normally "dogs are held" for people who called in ahead of their visit. In response I said that was EXACTLY what I had done the prior day. All she could do after that was offer me to look at their "other dogs". I politely refused and left. Another 60+ miles back to my house, plus $20 in gas and 2 1/2 hours TOTALLY WASTED.I almost was "bought into" the idea of "adopt, not shop" and "save a life", but now "shelter rescue" is seemingly more like an illogical, manic race where whomever gets to the dog first gets him/her. Calling in late the prior day and receiving "hold" assurances that the dog I wanted to see would be there when I arrived the following morning apparently meant NOTHING, even when I followed through as I had promised. (I call "unfair" !!!)If I want to see a specific dog and am promised he/she will be there, I don't want "bait and switch" upon my arrival. I don't buy from car dealers who pull that stunt, and I felt a similar disgust today. The "bait and switch" that happened today, which may have had "well meaning" behind it, just really hit me very hard in a very wrong way.Other shelters and foster organizations offering dog adoption go even farther: showing pictures of "available animals", soliciting required detailed personal information of the tentative adopter, and even require MANDATORY HOME VISITS OF THE ADOPTER'S HOME, while promising and guarantying NOTHING. I'm sorry, but I'm also measuring the dog up to me, and my needs and my standards...and NOT ONLY the other way around. (We ARE going to be in that "forever home" together.)I really DO miss my old dog. He was a loved and cherished family member, FOR MANY GOOD YEARS, and who had only the best of care and treatment. He was purchased at a pet shop that specialized in dogs, and was NOT a puppy mill freak. So, spare me any political outrage that wants to shut down all independent pet shops that sell dogs !!!One of THE hardest things I ever had to do in my life was to take him to the vet two months ago for euthanizing at SIXTEEN AND A HALF YEARS OF AGE. I made the hard decision to "put him down" before he became completely immobilized, helpless, and suffering in constant pain. The vet was very compassionate but confirmed that the deck was increasingly stacked against my dog. There would be no improvements to his multiple conditions, but only a quickening of the pace of his sinking. I thanked the vet, but my loss still badly stings. Today's outrageous episode just made things worse for me.So, throw me a curve ball again (like today's) or make it ridiculously difficult for me to "adopt"...and I'm going back to "shopping". I'm still willing to keep an open mind on adoption, but the ethics DO "cut both ways". Adoption cannot be a one-sided thing. It must be win-win for both the animal AND the new owner.

The most amazing Human Society. I wish every organization in the pursuit of rescuing animals could come and learn from Erma and the staff. The animals are protected, loved, cared for in ways you have to see for yourself. It's as if every dog and cat is personally owned by them. If you have extra 'stuff', donate it to there. If you have a place in your heart and home for a wonderful animal...that's the place to go.

The people are kind, but the shelter needs attention. Volunteers would probably be appreciated to help give attention to the animals. We adopted two dogs that we love. They don't appear to have any issues from the shelter like some animals have.

The staff here truly cares for animals and will even remember the animal you adopt when you come back months later. You can tell the animals are looked after, medically and emotionally. It's beautiful to adopt a creature and give it a new chance at life!
