The workers were very helpful and kind. They answered questions, let us see the dogs and explained any known behavioral issues, and even sent us home with some food to transition the dog we adopted to new food. Vixie is settling in and enjoying exploring.

DO NOT GO TO THIS SHELTER. I adopted a puppy from here and everything was fine. The problem was the second dog I adopted. I was aware that she was very shy and thought my dog would open her up and she would settle. After a week of the craziest behavior I've ever seen in a puppy I called to see if she was previously abused and told no nothing happened. After 2-3 months of working with dog and lots of trial and error we had to bring her back. She bit me after trying to correct her and the shelter labeled me as abusive. The director met us at the front desk while filling out information and told us we are blacklisted and unable to adopt in the future. When asking why, she stated "you abused her". After asking how, she stated that telling the dog "no potty inside" while pointing nose to the spot is considered abusive behavior. She stated in front of all of the people and staff that we are abusive people after grieving and having to surrender a dog that we worked with for 2 months. I would have otherwise recommended this shelter, but after thus situation I caution anyone adopting from here.

I had my dog fixed Thursday March 28th, 2024 at the humane society s spay/neuter clinicAfter my dog was spayed within hours of coming home she was unable to walk. I reached out to the vet as directed by the staff or volunteer who discharged my dog. They stated due to my dog being in nest and a large breed she had a hard surgery and would need to take some time to recover. By Friday at 10 am she was completely unable to walk and was rushed to a vet office for an emergency. Testing was inconclusive but the vet said it could have been nerve damage from the spay, reaction to anesthesia, injury from how she was tied. I reached out a week later to the humane society (today April 4th) asking if I could get assistance to wrap the foot as one foot is still limited on movement and started to develop sores, I left a voice mail. The humane society member Cali reached out and stated it's not the vets fault, questioned if I had proof of my vetting the previous day (which I did offer to get, along with 2 other vets opinions, 3 in total), we can wrap or brace our dog however we want and THEN SAID THEY WERE REMOVING MY OTHER DOGS OFF THE SPAY LIST. As the vet isn't comfortable spaying "big dogs" or older dogs.( My big dog who was still scheduled is probably 80-90 lbs, they just fixed my great Dane 131 lbs a week prior). Prior to this call they had no issue spaying my other 2 girls. The staff member or volunteer was extremely rude on the phone, I did hang up the phone because I was in tears with how this whole thing happened and I couldn't continue the conversation without completely sobbing)I was asking for help. Not blaming anyone as I know with surgery there's a risk no matter what. But to be dismissed, talked down too and acting like I was a problem is beyond me.All I wanted was to get my dog spayed to be a responsible pet ownerNow my previously healthy great Dane is now HANDICAPPED. Her hind end is limited in use, and has to be assisted moving around, walking, going potty etc.And because I asked for help and a conversation the retaliation is to cancel my other pets spays after being on the list for months.I don't want to bash any facility in an area that's already hurting for resources but this has to have light shed on the situation.A simple spay how has my previously healthy dogs quality of life jeopardize and I couldn't get more then a horribly rude response and retaliation. As I will state again I have NO ISSUE bringing all records and receipts of conversations. It is just sad instead of the humane society goal to help an animal they would rather respond in the nature they did.

Worse place. Been trying to rehome a dog with issues. They will take big dogs. Sad that there is no help in this small town for people and animals. They will tell you their shelter is full but you will see them taking dogs all the time. Usually only bigger dogs. Thank God for the humane society down in the Valley they work with you to help obtain other resources. Not this one.

What an amazing staff! In 2020 we decided it was time to add a new member to our family. After several visits to the Humane Society of the White Mountains, we found ourselves drawn to pup who was too afraid to even walk through a doorway. The staff gave us a bit of her background and let us speak to the staff members who were working to rehabilitate her. Prior to adoption I spent two weeks visiting the shelter during my lunch hour. At every visit I learned more about how much the shelter's staff cares for and about their guests. Our family will be forever grateful for the time and love everyone at the Humane Society put into taking care of and not giving up on our little girl!

We had the best experience! We adopted Emma (previously Ciara) a border collie mix a few weeks ago. She's doing wonderfully and came to us happy and healthy. She's already an important member of our family especially with George our hound dog!

We lost our old man Crunch from kidney failure and after 40 yrs we needed some little fyr baby to share our love with. We found 2 brother 7 mon.old kittens. They are wonderful and run the whole house. Oreo and ding-dong are happy and full of love and are running all day. The people here love the animals and it shows. Very perfestional and very clean. Thank you to all for helping us and you all brought happiness to us again.I urge everyone to adopt a pet here not buy one. They are waiting for you!!! Just look into their eyes. Don't leave empty handed take love...open your hearts and eyes and you won't be disappointed. The Hancock'sIf you can't adopt try donating some food. Chewy is great for that. Always needed. I hope this touches someone's ❤️..

Absolutely did not love my conversation with kaitlyn. She wanted my landlords number to call and confirm, as if I am not an adult. Secondly she said I cannot have the cat outside without a leash even for 30 min in the morning while watering flowers with my other kitty. Ridiculous. Are they even trying to adopt out pets or are they trying to tell you how stupid and irresponsible you must be if you don’t follow their guidelines? As invasive as the government apparently. All to adopt a kitten. My child and I had planned on volunteering at the humane society and were so excited about our kitty…needless to say - not anymore. He could have been so loved and cared for and had a big beautiful home to play in with a big brother kitty. Boooooooo

Our experience here started with visiting the facility to find a puppy that is a good fit for our family. We found such a dog, he was perfect, and we adopted him. He brought him home after his vaccinations and had a wonderful week with him. He was becoming a part of our family and was very comfortable with us. He never went a moment unsupervised, and was treated well, and was remarkably well behaved. On the 7th day he started acting very strange and upset. This continued the rest of the day until the evening when he laid down and went into a seizure. These seizures continued for around an hour until he died at the animal hospital where we rushed him. This dog sadly was injured by the vaccine the vet and hospital had given him. Watching this puppy die was one of he hardest moments in memory. He was a part of our family, and we loved him very much. Sadly, the hospital would not admit he had a vaccine injury. We decided in our grief to seek another dog, and to not give up, and we understood that if a puppy was not a good fit we could adopt another one without paying additional fees. We confirmed this with the staff at the shelter, and began meeting other dogs.We found the perfect puppy, and decided to adopt him when we were asked for money again.Bear in mind, I have no issue contributing to the shelter, or even paying hundreds or thousands of dollars for the right dog for our family. We had already spent around a thousand dollars in adoption costs and the cost of cremation for the last puppy. So when we were asked for additional money, we were a bit taken back. We explained that seemed a bit absurd given the last dog we adopted from them, that they poisoned, had died within a week. We didn't ask for any of our expenses to be recouped, which would have been a fair request.. we just wanted another dog. This was after insulting us that "they had no proof the last dog was poisoned by the vaccine". They basically said without saying they didn't believe us. How absurd, and hurtful, and insulting. We are friendly, professional, and frankly more financially capable dog owners than 90% of the people they are likely giving dogs to, but they think we would just make this kind of thing up?We were told they would ask the director and get back to us. So today we got a call that "we are not being approved to adopt a dog right now".This was the most insulting moment of 2020 for my family. How terrible the small ignorant people at this shelter must be.Watching my poor young puppy convulse and empty its bowels on my floor uncontrollably while my children watched and all I could do was try and comfort this poor suffering animal.. all because this place had poisoned him.. to be called a liar. What a horrible place full of horrible people. Disgusting. We will find a puppy somewhere else, but we want absolutely nothing to do with this place. I feel very bad for the dogs in this facility.

this place gave me my best friend. before i adopted my dog 5 years ago, she was a scared little dog in a kennel, she was scared of everyone and a dog that required a lot of patience and love. she was showed all of that here. i now volunteer here and they put in so much effort into every single dog. if you are considering rescuing a dog from here, i promise you, you will not regret it:)

Drove 1300 miles round trip to adopt a dog from these folks. They approved me after talking to my vet. After losing my beastie of 11 years to cancer, stephen/buddy fit the part! Great dog. People are nice. Great facility for the dogs in waiting. Don't buy a puppy, adopt a lonely buddy needing a home. Can't say enough!

They are a wonderful organization. Their pricing made it possible for me to spay my cat for a fraction of the cost that a regular vet would have charged. Spay cost was $15 for my female cat. Why can't regular vets do it for a better price????

Reply to your reply: maybe if you don't want bad reviews about your actions then you should conduct yourselves more professionally and show more empathy. I never mentioned the shelter side, I love animals much more then people because they are loving and loyal unlike most humans who are self serving and temperamental. You're sorry for how I felt annoyed at not being able to make an appointment but not sorry for how I was treated by Debbie?Your responses back to myself and others who leave bad reviews shows you want to guilt trip us. I don't feel bad for telling the truth!___________________________________Awful experience. Debbie, the manager, was talking over me and being very confrontational over the phone. She was upset that I was annoyed.I called February 21st the day they opened up for spay and neuter and even left a message and she gets back to me today, 2 days later, saying they filled up the clinic in 1 day. Ridiculous and unfair. They booked 2 months of appointments in one day, she said the phone rang for 3 and a half hours straight. I called for hours February 21st and it was ringing repeatedly yet no answer.I also left messages to get my 3 animals in trying to do the right thing and she tells me there is nothing she can do. Pathetic and sad.

You fill up appointments for spay and neuter in one day and when someone is upset because they have been trying since the day they opened up for an appointment you yell at them and act rude?? Debbie you should be ashamed. I also see you respond to previous negative reviews highly unprofessionally, customer service is not right for you.

Gina is very caring and very kind. She worked with Peggy and me for several weeks then said we could bring in our 3 kittens. She tried her best to assure us they would be placed. I had the runt kitten who was and has been scared since captured but if you can get past her scary hiss she loves to be petted but not picked up. Thank you Gina, for your kindness

Do not go there if you are looking for a pet. The application is worse than applying for the military. Would not give us a kitten because I had a dog. If we did not bring in the dog and test her with their tester cat. No kitten. Btw my dog is a 7000.00 dog and I am not bringing her in with all of your strays. Keep your strays. I hope the kitten gets a home. You will have to be interrogated first

We found the shelter very clean, staff friendly and helpful! We went to see a couple of dogs from the website and lucky for us our first choice was still available 🙌 We met and fell in love with Belle, completed the application, answered additional questions and we're approved 💜 Belle is doing amazing and we are shaking our heads as to how we got so lucky that she chose us!!A big thank you to everyone who helped us adopt our Belle😍
