Fantastic location just inside the national monument. Rooms are comfortable and clean, cafeteria style restaurant is convenient, with enough options to keep most satisfied. Best of all, the staff are all very friendly and helpful. A wonderful stay. Oh, goes without saying, Canyon de Chelly is gorgeous with much to learn about Navajo culture and history. Will visit again.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at the Thunderbird Lodge for two nights, and our experience was nothing short of wonderful. The lodge boasts a beautiful and peaceful ambiance, exuding classic beauty that made our stay memorable. Our room was a comfortable retreat, meticulously cleaned daily, which we greatly appreciated. The check-in process was seamless, and we found the gift shop and restaurant not only convenient but also stocked with a variety of options to enhance our stay. What stood out most, however, was the exceptional service. Every staff member we encountered was helpful and considerate, contributing to a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We're already looking forward to our next stay at the Thunderbird Lodge, confident that it will be as delightful as this one. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a serene getaway complemented by top-notch hospitality.

There is not many choices when it comes to this place. But this lodge would be the best in the area. Rooms are super clean and comfy. Food in the cafeteria is OK. Not our kinda food. But will do when hungry. The trips to canyon where great. Realy must see all. We did 4h with kids. 8h would be too long. We stayed in March and it is cold. Be ready and dress for the tour. The canyon itself is spectacular. We believe the best in AZ. No crowds.Rooms: Clean and comfySafety: SafeFood & drinks: Accessible food

Rooms are comfortable and clean, albeit ready for a bit of renovation and repainting. Location is unbeatable, incl. dark skys. Staying here supports Navajo Nation rather than some national chain. Lodge has one single 110V outlet available 7 pm -7 am for trickle-charging an e-car.Nearby activities: In-Canyon tours (Spider and Speaker rocks in whole day tour only); unforgettable South Rim drive and overlooks). Visitor Center at park entrance should not be missed.Walkability: Large cottonwood groves right around lodge are very enjoyable.Food & drinks: Dinner is very limited as to choices, very challenging for those with a vegetarian preference. Service can be slow but consistently friendly. Breakfasts were quite good, blue corn pancakes excellent. Bashas-Dine is an excellent in-town supermarket that seems to have everything except alcoholic beverages; roasted chicken esp. good.

I ate at the Cafeteria with my family. Their Saturday specials were Stuffed Peppers (which I had 👍) and BBQ Spare ribs that my niece had, she liked it. I really like the historical feel of this place...it's the first Trading Post in the Chinle area. The Gift shop has some really beautiful Navajo rugs for sale, jewelry and souvenirs too. I usually buy their post cards and small gifts to send to friends far away. I haven't stayed in the rooms but I hear it's clean and comfy. I would recommend this hotel if you want a quiet corner Canyon de Chelly area.

It's clean, somewhat basic, but everything worked as expected -- it's still better than the Holiday Inn just up the road. I would have appreciated a newer larger TV that allows streaming and a walk-in shower versus the tub. Bed was good. The front desk check-in person was very cold and impersonable, but the people in the giftshop and cafeteria were pleasant. I'd stay here again.

We totally enjoyed our stay. This was our 2nd visit and it did not disappoint. We had a problem with the toilet upon check in. Maintenance addressed it immediately and no further issues. Check in staff was considerate. Our assigned room was too far for my husband to walk to, so they bent over backwards to get us a room that we could park in front of. I read comments about decor being outdated…to us, it adds to the ambience…rooms are immaculate.

Some rooms are called canyon-side rooms with a partial vire. Either one king bed or two queen beds. Amenities: full bath, refrigerator, flat screen television with satellite TV, telephone, hair dryer, coffeemaker, safes in thd rooms. They have microwaves now. There is a cafeteria but you must pay. The 1st two photos I have were taken at the actual lodge. The rest are photos from the tour we paid for through the lodge, & I highly highly recommend it!Rooms: Clean rooms with comfortable beds!Nearby activities: Walking distance to restaurants, gift shops, Kolb Studio, Verkamp’s Visitor Center and Bright Angel Trail Head. The lodge is located directly on the Rim Trail, which spans from Hermits Rest to the Kaibab Trailhead—approximately 12.8 mile. Tours availableSafety: Safes in all rooms and deadbolt

We checked into a room. The shower was horrible. Water barely came out of the shower head. The tub had to have been clogged. Water wouldn't drain. They gave us another room with the same problem. The maintenance never came by to fix the problem. Also, we smelt smoke in the room. There's a campsite near by. I'm assuming the smoke smell came from there.

This was a fantastic stay. Clean, spacious rooms. We spent 1 day experiencing the canyon tour which was superb. Then one day hanging around the room catching up on paperwork. Both days were great. The room lends itself very nicely to temporary office.Had the blue corn pancakes at the cafeteria. They were huge and delicious.Thank you to all the staff for an excellent stay.

We stayed one night at the lodge and did the sunset tour. Upon check in I was told we were not allowed to leave our dogs alone on the room. I asked how I was supposed to do that when we have a 4 hour tour booked. They said they had outdoor kennels we could use. It was nearly 100 degrees and I was not willing to put my dog in an outdoor kennel for 4 hours in that heat. They said if we had a kennel we could put them in that and leave them in the room. Be aware, although they allow pets, you cannot leave them alone. The tour was nice, if not windy and hot. Quite bumpy and by the end all our butts hurt. I really think a 2 or 3 hour tour would be sufficient but they don't offer that. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and nice. Bring cash as they have a stop where you can buy Navajo items.I don't feel like the staff were very helpful. They don't tell you how to dress for the tour or that you should bring cash. The dog policy was not stated when I booked the lodge, even though we also booked a tour. That seems like pertinent info to me. I just felt no one really cared if you had a good experience or not.Noteworthy details: You cannot leave your pets alone in the room.

I'm leaving this review so people will know the reality of staying at the TB Lodge. First of all, Canyon de Chelly is a wonderful place that should be more popular and visited than it is. That said, it was nice to visit the lookouts for free without dozens of tourists to wade through. The location of the hotel was perfect. But the hotel itself does not seem to have been updated since the 70s. The motel-style AC unit smelled funny. The only window in the room lead out to the parking lot. The shower head needed Teflon tape on the threads to stop it from spraying sideways AND there was not enough hot water for me to shower in the morning after my wife. The pillows were too thick and hard. In a word: disappointing.

We absolutely loved staying at the Thunderbird Lodge. The hardworking staff are friendly and professional, the rooms spotlessly clean, quiet, and comfortable, and the cafeteria dining a tasty and fun experience. Don't miss the blue corn pancakes! Although the canyon had a lot of water, we were able to take a half-day tour through the lodge and had a fantastic time--thank you, Harold, for an enlightening tour, for your absolutely amazing driving skills, and for sharing your stories of growing up in the canyon. We will definitely stay here again. Highly recommend.

Quaint room with the best air conditioner that I've had in 2 weeks of travel and hotel rooms. Towels in the bathroom were plush and plentiful and the room was very clean. Everyone ar the lodge was friendly. Very quiet and serene. I would definitely stay there again!Nearby activities: The canyon jeep tour was amazing and our guide Fernando was very knowledgeable about the ruins and history of the canyon.

Staying at the park was wonderful and gave us a chance to go back in the evening and enjoy he views after the snow had cleared at the higher elevations. Staff was very friendly and check in was easy. Room was perfect except the door frame was a little off so there was a cold breeze coming in all night. Room was clean and nicely laid out. We also enjoyed dinner at the Lodge and the gift shop.
