we fondly remembered our last visit to Bear Wallow Cafe in Alpine. We remembered really friendly service and mouthwatering pie. we even bought souvenir coffee mugs! Today we drove up in anticipation, but we're put off by a new sign in the front window. The wood carved sign essentially declares half of the country unwelcome. So, we moved on. Wondering how a business could make that kind of a choice. Their anger is palpable.

Such a cute little restaurant in the middle of Alpine. The employees are very friendly and know their regulars by name. The food was really pretty good. I had a chicken fried chicken sandwich with fries and it come with gravy to dip it in. Very yummy! I would only say that the table, menus and seats could be wiped down a little bit better and the knickknacks by the tables be dusted better. The bathroom was really clean, which says a lot. I really love the fact that they know their regulars and they took the time to chit-chat with them. I would definitely go back and support them.

A very friendly hometown Diner. Open for breakfast lunch and dinner. A good selection on the menu for each time you want to eat. Sarah our waitress was absolutely wonderful. I had the open-faced beef roast sandwich and mashed potatoes. Was very good. My wife had a Mexican combo plate. Very large portions so you will get plenty to eat. They also had quite a large assortment of pies. See the attached pictures if you would like.

Quaint small town diner with very friendly staff and cozy atmosphere. Fresh pies are amazing. Fruit and pie crusts and very tasty. Makes for a good day trip from Show Low to see beautiful Alpine.

Hello reader. Not from here, passing through on my way north. Found this place and it’s pretty good. The beef soup was amazing good. We had the sandwiches which were on point as we were rolling. The soup to go comes in a foam coffee go up which you can eat on the go. They make pretty good pie too.The general store across the store is pretty cool too.Free street parking right out front.

Found the breakfast fantastic and the service great. Definitely home style cooking and more importantly a home style feeling. Staff were all great towards me and my wife. This was the place that I enjoyed the most on my Grand Circle tour road trip. Wish I could go there right now for a meal. People should be aware that cell phone usage is not allowed inside. Yet another reason to love this place. Enjoy the meal and company. Use your phone after.

Stopped for breakfast on 9/11/23. Loved the decor and the philosophy - conservative, 2nd amendment, anti - tyranny. No talking on cell phones in the dining room; love it! Not for everyone, but they get my vote! Kathleen was our server. She steered me to the Chicken fried steak and eggs - I'm glad she did! Husband had Juevos Rancheros and commented on the generous chunks of beef that were smothered in with his eggs, tortilla chips and cheese. We'll be back next time we pass through!

Just tried to have breakfast at the Bear Wallow, we couldn't get waited on. The place was half empty and our waitress walked by us 3 times saying she'd be right with us. Then she took a cup of coffee to the back and took a break. She then waited on other customers that had come in after us. All the while walking by us saying, I'll be right with you. Then back to the back again. After 15 minutes we left.We are now enjoying our breakfast in Springerville.

Stopped here for lunch passing through so I can only comment on this one experience, but it was very “meh.” Our server was impatient and apathetic, and she had to “check with the with the cook” to see if he would start making lunch 5 minutes early. She also didn’t want to open the salad bar, which was annoying. The food was okay at best. It was bland and something I could’ve made at home for a lot cheaper. The chicken was really over cooked, and the vegetables were still cold.

Consistent food. Not awesome but tasty. Great salad bar. This really is the best place to eat in town. Fastest service of the sit down restaurants in town. Also don't pass on the homemade pies. Always good. You haven't been to Alpine if you haven't been to bear wallow.

I found this place on a small advertisement at a small gift store in a ghost town in New Mexico. It was on my way back home so I chose to go this way vs the 10. No waiting and grabbed a spot in the back with a view. The waitress didn't see me come in so it took a little longer to get a menu. I had the half order biscuits and gravy, eggs over easy with hash browns. It was the BEST biscuits and gravy I have ever had. It was hot and I had to drink water to cool it off. I came in very hungry. I had to try their pie too. I ordered mixed berry and it was warned up with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. Everything was to die for and I love this place. It is a pretty drive through the mountains to get to Phoenix. I will definitely eat here again on my way to New Mexico. I can't say enough good things about this place! Try it and it won't disappoint. Best to call prior to find out their current operating hours and days before you go. I got lucky when I went because if I had shown up the next day I would have found them closed.

They were slammed which apparently is normal. You never would have known any issues with the wonderful attitude of the waitress. Everyone knew everyone. Hi Norm. It may be the only place for breakfast but you weren't rushed to move on. Oh..and meal was fantastic. Met a gal by the name of Kay or Kate. Small world, we went to the same high school in Tucson. She looked 10-15 years younger than me, but only ?3?. Such a Nice accommodating town.

We had breakfast. I had the omelette with hashbrowns. My boys had french toast and scrambled eggs and hashbrowns. We were all very happy with taste and service.

Maybe it's nostalgia, but this place has got to be one of the best breakfast places I've ever been. They do everything well, and it's such a cozy atmosphere, it's hard not to love.Kid-friendliness: It's such a cute place to go, and they are really family-friendly.Wheelchair accessibility: There was a ramp last time I went. They cater to some older guests so they do know how to help with mobility accommodations. Not too sure about other necessary accommodations, but they were very helpful and kind there so I don't think it would hurt to ask for certain accessibility help.

The food is average. Not great but not bad. Something I could make at home. I stopped here on a road trip last summer and was just looking to get breakfast and keep traveling. The girl who sat us at our table said our server would be by shortly but no one came for 20 minutes. The same girl came back and said she would just take our orders and then our sever would be over but this server never came. Instead this girl, who I believe was supposed to just run the register, served us our entire meal and it didn't seem like she was even asked to, she just felt bad that we were sitting there for so long. She was excellent and very nice even though it wasn't her job and we made sure the tip went to her. We found out that the person who was supposed to be our waitress was "too busy" to come over to take our order or bring our food. There are several signs inside and out that say "no phones allowed" and I obeyed their request when I had to use the phone. If I'm following the rules can you be courteous enough to ASK someone else to take your table and not have us sit and wonder what's happening. Based on the other reviews, this seems like a nice enough place to eat at so I really wish I had a better experience here but after this trip I don't think I would.

The food was outstanding. Staff was friendly. Food came out on time .My coffee was always full. Cool mountain vibe, mountain decor . A local favorite, the place was packed. Cool signs and local poetry to keep you entertained all throughout restaurant. If you swing to the right, you'll love it. Liberals beware.

Ever ate pie that made you wanna cry? This place is amazing! We love supporting small town America and this is a great place to stop!We had the chicken fried steak with green beans, Texas toast, mashed potatoes, and a side of vegetable beef stew. And we also tried the Green Chile Burro which is served enchilada style (basically a smothered burrito), came with beans and cheese and served with chips and salsa. To top it all off we had a slice of pumpkin and blueberry pie. We came at the right time because they were still warm out of the oven! Homemade from scratch- we even had them throw on a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream. We left feeling extremely satisfied! The wait staff were great and friendly too.Don’t forget to tip your servers! Vote with your dollar! Shop local and support small businesses!

This place is so cute! We had to wait a long time for our food but it's because it was super busy, probably because it might be the only breakfast place in town or the best one at least. We met some people that live right by us back in Phoenix and they also knew the people sitting next to them. Small world. The company was good so the wait didn't even matter. The food was yummy and the staff was super nice and friendly. Will definitely recommend and return.
