Overall a solid experience sleeping for two nights at the Anchor Inn. It was everything it needed to be (a comfortable bed, a surprisingly adequate shower, with a mini fridge/micorwave, TV, coffee machine and convenient location in a small small town). Some things it lacked - curtains for the “midnight sun” in the summer. If you prefer a dark room to fall asleep, this might be difficult as it’s just blinds that don’t fully shut.If you’re looking to stay in Whittier, not a bad option!

We booked this hotel because the Inn at Whittier had to cancel us due to water damage…. Check-in is in the restaurant, odd but was quick and easy enough. Our room was a ‘standard’ queen, bed was very comfortable, but the room itself was cold and uncomfortable, no Alaskan type decor except the bed coverlet, very minimal and severely outdated furniture, one wall was all windows, only one opened to get fresh air into the room, no curtains, just metal 1 inch shades that did NOT keep light out(this was especially important due to the window view, see pics of our view). If you needed the front desk or had any questions, you had to walk downstairs, across the parking lot, go up another flight of stairs to get into the restaurant where the ‘front desk’ was…it was pouring the entire 2 days we were there to catch out cruise…the room phone was not hooked up and in a dresser drawer, not sure why.Definitely nothing to do in Whittier in September while waiting for your cruise because most shops are already closed for the season. Most staffers were very nice and friendly…room and hotel, including restaurant needs severe updating. The older gentleman who drove the shuttle bus to the cruise port had loads of great information on the area …..he was awesome.

We made a last minute reservation here when the Whittier Inn was water-damaged. We came to kayak. We walked through the hotel and smelled a lot of smoke. We called to cancel and had a hard time getting through. Finally a local person who knew the owner called for us. The woman on the phone said there was never any smoke and said she had never had one complaint and all the rooms are full and kept our$150 saying we’d already been charged even though we hadn’t checked in yet as it was early in the morning. The whole place restaurant, upstairs bar and rooms smell badly and need cleaning. We asked around and found a condo to stay in that was slightly better and smoke free. Until and unless Whittier Inn opens, I don’t see any place worth staying at in Whittier.

If you weren't expecting more, it's just what you expected. Solid 2 star hotel. My only concerns are when we pointed out there were candy wrappers left on the floor, manager said it would be taken care of. We walked around for 2 hours, came back and it wasn't. Ever.Food at restaurant is good, highly recommend homemade lumpia.Great water temperature and pressure. Room plenty warm, too warm.Walkability: Whole town isn't a square mile, everything is walkable.Food & drinks: Only about 3 options in town. This one is perfectly servicable.

Awesome food! Great stay for one night before our cruise. The waitress and hotel check-in lady Veronica gave us amazing service. We stayed at the condos (I think it was called glacier view). The views were amazing! The food tasted homemade. Had a burger for dinner and pancake sandwich for breakfast the next day. Our driver Daniel who took us around was also very friendly and made us feel at home. We had a very pleasant stay and would come back if we cruise out of Whittier again. 🤩

It's not fancy matter of fact when we arrived I wasn't sure I wanted to stay here. Then when we had to go upstairs to the bar/restaurant to check it I was tempted to leave but actually the place isn't that bad. The room was in the building next to the restaurant and was clean and comfortable. We got food at the bar which was good. The location is in a great location for touring!

I was a little concerned about this place based on pictures, but it had 4/5 stars so I thought it must be okay. Not for us! Most of the reviews are for the restaurant and not the hotel so lesson learned, don’t go by stars alone… dig deep. We checked into the restaurant at about 3:30 pm. The bar area was pretty full of locals, many of whom were already drunk. Odd, but it was a holiday weekend, so okay. We were given the key to our room, in a very sad looking building next door. The bottom is a laundry mat and grocery and the top are the rooms. I went up to check it out. It seemed clean enough but it was VERY outdated and smelled very weird. My teen daughter wasn’t feeling well and wanted to stay in the room while we explored and no way were we comfortable leaving her there alone. It’s hard to describe the room but somewhere between a dorm room and an army barrack. Marketing it as a hostel might better manage expectations. We quickly checked out, paid the 15% cancellation fee, and went to the Inn in Whittier where they, fortunately, had a last minute cancellation. Otherwise, we were prepared to drive back to Anchorage. I will say that everyone that we dealt with was very nice.

Stopped in for breakfast and lunch on two separate occasions. The cheeseburger was OKAY, pretty basic stuff. The Chicken Fried steak was pretty good though. Nice little place to warm up and grab a bite when you're in Whittier.

Absolutely terrible. The smell of smoke in our room was overwhelming to say the least. The toenail clippings on the side table were pretty disgusting as well. Had a overflowing toilet that they did not fix. Came back from being on a boat for 40 hours to find the towels that I used to sop the overflow still there. Do yourself a favor and stay as far away from this dump as possible.

We had booked for three nights at the glacier's condos. When we checked into the condo there were signs all over the condo saying that we would be charged for any smoking. However, the entire place wreaked of smoke. I called them at the time and was told it's okay. It comes in through the AC vents not to worry about it. So we went out for a hike and came back to the condo. At that point I went into the kitchen to Cook dinner and couldn't find enough silverware or pots and pans or plates which was really confusing to me because they said it was a fully stocked kitchen. I happen to think to open up the dishwasher. All of those dishes that weren't in the cabinets were inside of the dishwasher along with soap and a dishwasher that hadn't washed any dishes and a dishwasher that didn't work.I called again and said we would not be staying at least our third night and wanted to cancel and be refunded for that night. I was told to call back the next morning and speak with Gina who could help me with that. That it wasn't going to be a problem based on their refund policy if I called the next morning.I called the next morning. Never got to the person I needed to speak with. Although I don't know who I was speaking with. She never told me her name. I gave her all of the details around our stay and the fact that we had left and would not be returning because of the condition of the condo. I asked for a refund for our third night that we were not staying and a partial refund based on their cancellation policy for the second night that we would not be staying and felt that they should refund the entire second night because I had to wash dishes by hand in order to cook dinner the night that we did stay. And then hand wash the dishes that we used.I never received a call back.Since that day I have called multiple times. Sometimes they answer and hang up the phone. Sometimes they don't answer at all. I have submitted a contact request on their website. My intention with contacting them has been to come to a reasonable solution and to be refunded within their cancellation policy which would have returned one of our nights in full a second night partially and hopefully they would choose to do the right thing and refund me the full second night because of the situation with the kitchen.I have not been refunded any funds at all even the third night which I was entitled to within their cancellation policy. The condos themselves aren't bad. But my experience has been horrific. As a business they are completely unresponsive. They are not following their own agreements which they clearly state. And they didn't take care of our stay properly from the beginning. If you choose to book here so that you can be in Whittier I would recommend you book for one night at a time just in case you have a similar situation that we had.Or better yet stay outside of Whittier it's not that long of a drive-in.

Rooms are large and clean, if dated. Excellent shower/water pressure. Reasonable rates. Food in the attached restaurant was excellent and better rates than the dock area. Biggest thing to note if you're going to reserve when it's hot, make sure they give you a fan! There are no screens on the windows (needs to be added!!) We were lucky enough to have a fan. Our friends weren't, but she made do by getting ready in getting of the open freezer. Really enjoyed Whittier and would stay here again.

It was in a very interesting location, the shower curtain had mold on it, it smelled bad, I picked up a spill and and the rag was black. No paper towels, the fridge smelled horrible, and the fridge didn't have a seal shut, it felt really cheap. And it smelled like cigarettes.

Solid breakfast. FYI opened at 9 am on Saturday in February (not 8 am). Keep in mind that you need to travel through the one-way tunnel to get into and out of Whittier, so while that is a fun and unique experience, it will add time to your trip.

Great little place, simply and comfortably furnished. We took advantage of the full kitchen in our room to bake some salmon we had caught that morning. Friendly and welcoming staff gave us some salt and pepper for seasoning when we asked, and the bar had a great diner-style breakfast.

My wife and I both had the Halibut Fish & Chips, it was the freshest fish I've had in some time. The grocery store is very well stocked as there are many seasonal workers that have need of many different products. We spent the night in the hotel above the grocery. The furnishings are out dated yes (welcome to Whittier) but the room was very clean and the mattresses quite comfortable. The operators of these businesses are some of the friendlies people we've ever met. We where treated like family in all of the best ways.
