We stayed here one night on our way to Anchorage. The woman at the front desk was very friendly and accommodating. The room was newly remodeled and was very nice. The bed and bedding were comfy. We appreciated the mini fridge to store our food, the hot water to take a shower, and the heater to sleep soundly during the night.Rooms: Newly remodeled, clean and comfy.Walkability: Not super close to anything.Food & drinks: Canned beverages available in the lobby. It looks like there may be a restaurant opening in the future.

Undergoing renovations and very nice in the redone rooms. Spacious with sofa, mini fridge and microwave plus extra sink was so helpful. Super clean and very quiet. We were traveling in winter and there was plenty of parking with our truck and cargo trailer. Also super nice staff. Restaurant was not open but recommend Fast Eddies, which was fantastic.

Such a great and cozy stay. The bed was super comfortable had trouble leaving in the morning. I would definitely recommend the stay. Clean rooms, great customer service,pet friendly, and the military discount was great as well.Safety: Felt very safe in the location

The rooms are recently renovated and are better than some of the chain hotels that we stayed at on our trip. They were very clean and I like that there was a surplus of soft towels. Make sure you support small business! They are the new owners as of last year.Noteworthy details: They had plenty of parking for our big rigs, don’t worry about being boxed in or not being able to turn around.

This hotel was quite cozy! Tye bed was comfortable.Barbara went above and beyond. First, I left my bathroom bag. Was at breakfast and went back for it... then later in the day somehow my drivers license was found in the floor. She mailed it to my home address.I highly recommend!!

Owners are super nice and helpful. They are working hard to renovate this motel and campground and the rooms they have finished are clean and cozy. Lots of 110v outlets as well as electronics charging plug-ins. Our room also had an extra lavatory which was a very nice touch. This is the 2nd time we've stayed here in the past 2 weeks and would stay here again if we're in the area.

Room was recently renovated and very clean and we will certainly stay here again. Only one recommendation…put a blind on the bathroom window. You can see directly into the shower from outside. Not sure if every room was like the one we stayed in but it was uncomfortable using the bathroom. Ended up showering with the bathroom door open as it blocked the window.

I think most of these reviews are from previous management.We drove through Tok in mid June. We arrived in the early evening with no reservation anywhere and most places were full. I took a chance on the Golden Bear (no posted reviews or info at the time), and it was an excellent experience. The new owners are in the process of renovating the place, but willing to rent out rooms as they finish them. The room was perfect and in very good shape - we were the first ones to stay in the newly renovated room. I'm sure that as they finish up other areas such as the lobby, it will be even better.I would definitely stay here again (although I'm not eager to repeat that drive from the lower 48 anytime soon), and I would definitely recommend it.

Wanted to hop on here and give a review on the "Golden Bear Motel" in Tok!My family ended up taking the detour on the cassiar due to the washout and of course the day that we were traveling they had reopened the Watson lake!So we were a day behind majority of the other travelers which didn't leave us with a lot of time or availability to book rooms on our move to Anchorage!We had called a few hotels in the Tok area which were all booked.However one hotel that we called recommended "Golden bear motel"I called the motel and spoke with Matthew!He was very nice and said he needed to double check to see if they had availability as they were in the middle of a remodel.Thankfully they did!He told me they would have our room ready when we got there and to just call!Once we got there, not only was our room ready, but it was one of the rooms they had been remodeling and they had completely finished that room for us so we could have somewhere to sleep with our toddlers!It was a brand new room and it was amazing that they were able to completely finished that for us in time!They had wifi, a smart TV, microwave and a fridge with a freezer, plus a place to park our truck with a 16ft trailer!All new flooring, paint, bed spreads and decor!Their remodel is coming along great and I would highly recommend their motel as a place to stay! Very friendly and the environment was great and very clean!Him and his wife are from the fort worth area (as am I) so it was great Getting to meet him and experience great hospitality!

Nicely renovated place in the heart of Tok Alaska, it’s clean comfortable and the owners are nice. I only stayed here but from the looks of things it’s one of the nicer stays in the area especially since they renovated. Of course it’s a work in progress but it’s nice bedding is new pillows soft and as of today no noise.

Had a wonderful peaceful night here. They are under renovations as new owners. Friendly and helpful! The room was clean and had everything needed except a coffee maker. Bed was very comfortable ! Very good wifi and internet TV.

I am grading on a curve here because it's Tok. I have tried two other places here and neither could match the friendly ness and professionalism of the new owners at Golden Bear. They are making huge strides to fix this place up and if you can overlook the absence of a few finishing touches, you will find clean rooms that have a very homey and comfortable feel. The beds are a bit firm. The TV is a smart TV and very nice. The WiFi did not leave me wanting which is saying something in the backwoods of Alaska. I would definitely chose this place over Young's. Young's doesn't have a fridge or microwave, but Golden Bear does! I have bumped into Mat and Susie on the grounds and asked them questions about extending my stay and both times they stopped what they were doing and handled it immediately on their phone. Wow, that kind of tech in Tok?!? Definitely recommend them and look forward to upgrading my rating when they finish the renovations.

July 12, 2022. We stayed at the Golden Bear Motel twice in the summer of 2022. Susie and Matthew are the owners and they are remodeling the hotel. It is wonderful! Clean rooms. Nicely decorated.Highly recommend staying here.5 stars!!
