I just visited AK Sled Dog Tours with my mom and it was incredible! We had Chloe as our guide and teacher for the day! Sledding with the dogs was amazing and they were so excited to run. It was amazing seeing the puppies and veteran sled dogs that brought Dallas to 6 Iditarod wins! Absolutely incredible, congratulations on being the highest awarded sled dog runner!

What a great experience. So informative and fun. Learned a lot from the knowledgeable mushers and staff. Got to spend time with the Iditarod champion dogs and went for a real dog sled run. An Alaska experience ticket you have to punch. Thank you to everyone there for giving us all a day we won't forget.

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this event as much as I did! It was a highlight of our trip! Driving the sled was a thrill, and my wife enjoyed the ride. Our lead dog was a 3-time winner of the Ididorod! Playing with the puppies and seeing all the dogs was great. The staff were really nice and went the extra distance to ensure our safety and comfort. It's definitely a must-do event on your Alaska adventure!

We did the tour today and it was a lot of fun. Holly was super friendly and led us through most of the tour, but everyone else was nice as well. We enjoyed getting to drive the sled, and of course hanging out with the ten day old pups. It was an experience we’ll remember for sure. Thanks!

AK SLED DOG TOURS IS THE REAL DEAL!We drove to Telkeetna from Anchorage about 100 miles to see where these amazing dogs live and train for what appears to be their passion and purpose in life—to pull a sled. And, of course, to see if we could “mush!” WE LOVED IT!First, the entire team are simply lovely people—as you would expect from folks who revere and honor these unique creatures. 2nd, the dogs were exuberant in their welcome to us—wiggling, licking, tails wagging, and leaning into us. And their passion for running was SO CLEAR. When another sled was being readied for a group, the dogs began yelping and jumping as if to say, “Me, me, me!!! Please pick me!” In the just published book, “4000 Paws: Caring for Dogs of the Iditarod,” the author Lee Morgan realized that the part of his vet training that dogs did not have the facial muscles to smile, was wrong. He was bowled over by their smiles and howls of delight. And so were we!!! The visit to the Husky puppies (8 wks), so affectionate and cuddly, was heartwarming.3rd, THEN we learned the basics of dog (and musher!) care during the grueling 1000 miles of the Iditarod. After that we went to our own sled and were introduced to the dogs in oir team, including TWO retired Iditarod champions, Gambol and Yak! Because of the snow and wind, our leader, Bill, drove a snow machine to clear the path ahead of us, while my co-pilot, Gabby, coached me on the use of the drag plate and the hard brake as I mushed around the track (and to NEVER, EVER let go of the sled when the dogs are harnessed to it!) What a thrill it was to connect with these powerful creatures as we glided thru the snow! When this magical ride ended, Gabby and Ben shared the traditional practice in which the musher gives physical affection and appreciation to their hard-working huskies. If you heart skips a beat as you read this, bundle up and meet your team: DOG SLED TOUGH!Grateful for this moment

We had so much fun on our dog sledding adventure with Jessica! The dogs were amazing and so talented. What an experience to get to actually mush a dog who has won the Iditarod three times!! That one would be Gamble who is black and tan.We even got to meet several of the retired dogs and the puppies!! All in all an amazing experience. I will cherish this memory forever. Truly once in a lifetime!!!

Absolutely the best of our trip to Alaska. Isaac, a participant in the Iditarod, explained everything about the dogs and race. Not just a tourist attraction but the real deal from 5x winner of the race. I highly recommend this be a stop on an Alaskan trip.

This was a first for me. As a dog lover, it was magical to see such a well run kennel. Dogs from puppies to adolescence to world champions from the Iditarod. The handlers and staff you could tell loved every minute of being there and the dogs were the focus not the humans. Mushing your own dog team is just too much fun. The only thing I was left wanting was to go faster which the lead dog, and I did Rod number one dog champion, looked over at me with displeasure when I wouldn’t let him go faster. Let me go fast, this is a must do and you will enjoy every minute. How the kennel operates and the dogs was just as great as the mushing.

I think this is one of the few tours you get to actually drive the sled! Each sled goes out with a passenger and a driver, and you can switch half way if you want. Of course the dogs are total pros and take great care of us newbie mushers. The guides rode snow machines in front and behind of the sleds so they could help if needed. After the tour I really enjoyed the replica Iditarod checkpoint, where we learned more about mushing, the Iditarod and Dallas Seavey. There were two smol puppies we got to play with, and all of the adults loved attention too! Even the Iditarod winners who I thought might be too serious for attention, but they were begging us to come over and give them pets and scratches. And as an added sweet bonus, there were a few retired dogs snoozing in the house. I highly recommend this experience!

This experience is a MUST if you're visiting the area. My family and I not only had an incredible time mushing, but the tour was super informative. Issac, our tour guide was knowledgeable and passionate about all they do with the dogs and the sport that surrounds dog sleds. We had an incredible experience and would highly recommend this adventure.

We LOVED our time at the kennel!!! Our guide was fantastic, the ride was amazing (the dogs are so powerful!), and the history and connection to the Iditarod was really interesting. We loved it so much that we are going to book another tour for the winter! And the puppies….oh my goodness, the puppies. That’s hard to beat!

Wow this was a great tour! All the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable about the sport of sled dog racing and the Iditarod. Being able to meet the dogs that one of the best competitors works with was a great experience. We enjoyed the cart mushing, learning about the training, details of the 1000 mile race, and playing with puppies! One of our tour guides is training for his first race which was exciting to meet some of his dogs and learn about his journey. This is a must if you’re in Alaska and the talkeetna area! Oh and we got to meet Beatle(Beetle?), an Iditarod legend!!!

Really enjoyed this! The dogs absolutely LOVE doing this, all they want to do is run. The staff was great, and in particular Jessica our guide. These dogs are every bit the athletes that you think they should be.

Fun activity for the family, especially the dog-loving family! And who can resist husky puppies?! The dog-powered summer sleds are big go-karts with big wheels! Be ready to go fast and pay attention whilst the dogs are pulling you; some of the tracks are narrow! Reasonably priced, esp considering the money goes towards the care of the dogs and facilities.

If you’re reading reviews because you want to know if doing this excursion is worth it, I’m going to put it simply: it’s worth every single dollar and penny you spend. The facility has extra gear that you need if you’re out of state and need additional layers. Everyone is super friendly, had a lot of interesting things to say, are hardworking and eager to please; including the humans too! Even when you’re not dog sledding, it’s a blast. We learned so much interesting information about the Iditarod, logistics of the race and keeping the dogs nourished. It was so fascinating and our tour guide, Terrance, was phenomenal! We also got to play with adolescent puppies (~7 months) and they were hilarious and eager to play. We had a fun impromptu game of try-to-get-your-gloves-back from basically Olympic level dog athletes with four legs and kleptic behavior. Also, the 2-3 month old puppies are super cute and fun (the enclosure is smaller if you’re worried about dog glove theft). The whole experience was incredible, from driving the sled to sitting passenger, it was a once in a lifetime experience. Especially meeting/mushing previous Iditarod winning dogs! I’d take any family or friends coming to visit Alaska again easily! You seriously cannot miss this!

You can dog sled anywhere there is snow. But AK dogs are the elite of dogs. You can tell they love to pull! So much fun for my family being pull by these awesome super athletic dogs! And the professional staffs do know their dogs and love these dogs. One of a MUST to do when traveling to Alaska!

One of the coolest experiences ever!! Highly recommend - for visitors as well as seasoned Alaskans. Very professional, friendly and knowledgeable staff, well organized, amazing facility. So cool to see where these famous dogs are bred, raised and trained. Amazing one-of-a-kind recovery facility for those dogs training hard. Love to see people take such good care of their dogs.Getting a taste of mushing your own sled was amazing! It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience!! And then we got to snuggle with some 1 month old puppies!

The team at AK Sled Dog Tours was phenomenal. Very warm and inviting upon arrival. Very knowledgable about the dogs and the sport. I think what shined through the most was their (both AK Sled Dog's and Dallas Seavy's teams)passion for the animals, not just the sport. The love they showed them was amazing. Even for animals that can no longer race. They were not just after thoughts, they were very well groomed and cared for as well. If you are looking for a professional, passionate, and ethical dogsled tour, this is the one. I would be remiss not to mention the beautiful scenery. Feels like something out of a movie. Be prepared though. If you are a novice (like me), the lead dogs will be side-eying you 😆Service: Group tours

I loved being able to drive the carts and see all the cute dogs. All the workers were so helpful and answered any questions. The mud puddles made it even more fun 😊 Would recommend 10/10

My wife, 18 month old daughter, mother and I had an absolute blast! The person that picked us up from the meeting spot was friendly and hyped us up for our experience. Elizabeth and our other guide (whose name I can’t remember ) were thoughtful about how to make a seat as comfortable as possible for my mom and daughter to ride on as passengers. They helped us take plenty of photos and, despite having a tour right after us, never made us feel like they were in a rush. They were knowledgeable and friendly, answering all of our questions. The dogs were adorable and we got to see puppies, which my daughter loved.I can’t recommend this place highly enough. Well worth the drive from Anchorage to take a ride with the best!

O. My. If I could give them more stars I would. My husband and I had an amazing time here. The team of mushers care for the dogs so well. The dogs are so friendly, playful and healthy! Isabella took us out on the trails with our team! Our team included one of the 4x Iditarod winning dogs! Isabella was so encouraging, knowledgeable and friendly as my husband and I were learning the ropes. It was early April so the snow was a little icy/muddy so we had to use a whip sled for safety but it was still 110% worth it!Elias was the musher who walked us around the kennel and he could not have been better. His customer service was amazing, greeting us right when we arrived and walking us through the kennel after the trail. He knew every dog and all the quirks about each one and answered my million questions about racing. He had a passion for the dogs and racing that was infectious. They just a liter of puppies 'aka nuggets' only 20 days old that we got to hold! They we so cute!I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this place any time of year to anyone wanting to experience Alaska. This place makes it worth the time and money!!

Wow! This is a must do if you are in the Talkeetna area. If you're a "dog person" even more so. What a great adventure mushing dogs that may very well race in the Iditarod a few months later. Great guides and facilities.

We visited on 7/4/22 and this was the best part of our Alaskan vacation. Hannah was awesome in telling us about the Iditarod and Dallas Seavey. Being in control of a sled dog team was an amazing experience! My daughter was able to take wonderful videos and photos! We were able to interact with puppies too. I will never forget this terrific experience.

My girlfriend talked me into doing this, however having done it, I'm EXTREMELY happy that I did. Mushing our own sled team was one of the coolest experiences I've ever had. The dogs were absolutely adorable and we could tell that they wanted nothing more than to mush. Their personalities were amazing. We had the pleasure of spending the day with Eli, who really went above and beyond to make the adventure as awesome as possible. Our vehicle actually lost a wheel an hour outside of the compound and Eli came to our rescue, Alaskan AAA style. Talk about customer service! In all seriousness, I can't give a high enough rating for this place. The pups and the staff made it exceed my wildest expectations. Thanks again for an awesome memory!
