Shelves bare. Produce selection is terrible. Front doors are inoperable and have been for weeks. I tend to drive into Fairbanks to shop just to avoid this Safeway. Prices & selection are better in Fairbanks.

I've never seen a Safeway with so many empty shelves. The food in the deli cases was old and oxidized. The selection of deli meats was extremely sparse. The cases appeared as though they had not been organized or cleaned for some time.

Last night I was trying to buy a cake from the display case in bakery. The person working in the bakery area walked over and told me I have to go to customer service! I've brought cake from here many times and from the display case, the native kid (sorry don't remember his name) was wonderful always help and greet but he wasn't there last night. I walked over to customer service it was closed! Walked over to front cashier and asked who should I ask to get a cake out of the display she replied that would be me but I'm going to break soon, if I could wait then she'll get it! No thanks! So after all that walking around from one end to the other end, didn't get a cake! You guys should just pack the cake up like before instead of displaying since everyone is lazy to grab it from the display! Those cake that's pack up by the slice will not feed a crowd! The time I was there was a little over 8.

*My review is specifically for the bakery* The bakery was great with my birthday cake order! I ordered over the phone and produced exactly what I wanted and helped me confirm what I needed (how many people it is for, the flavor, colors, etc). I even asked just for a white icing with blue accents and it turned out great! They were even nice enough to complete it next day and include candles that went with the colors. Highly recommend the bakery for orders!

I saw another comment and just wanted to say I totally agree if you shop here late at night any night you definitely will be subject to one there lady employees that will be more than rude to you.It’s unbelievable they still have jobs here.I avoid going late at night at all cost just sone of rudiest people you will ever meet.

Safe is getting cheap by not having cashiers and the only one they have stinks like he hasn't taken a shower for a couple of weeks..and if they would stop chatting with all there friends we might actually get out in a timely fashion.. i will take the extra time to drive to fairbanks...

So my family went to Alaska, during MEA break, to visit my oldest that is stationed at Fort Wainwright, in Fairbanks. We decided to stay in a tiny town outside of Fairbanks, called North Pole. We were able to get a hotel room that is like a small 2 bedroom apartment, with full kitchen and everything. We got to the hotel, and settled, around 1 am, so we hadn't had a chance to explore. I knew Fairbanks had vegan friendly restaurants, based on all my searches, but I wasn't sure about grocery stores, or even any place at all in North Pole. Let me tell you......I was practically dancing in the isles at the grocery store!!! These pictures are a small sample of what I found.Moral of the story.....North Pole, Alaska ROCKS for vegans, and I have only been here for a few hours.

Was just at your store. There was a lady in a wheelchair, an elderly lady, and several others waiting to get checked out. There was one person checking with the cord down because she was just helping the one person that complained.I myself had a boat load of groceries that I had to do at the self-checkout. Last time I looked I didn't work for Safeway. Why is it your store only that has this issue?? There should be no less than two checkers at all times. Safeway used to care about customer service clearly that isn't the case anymore. Absolutely disgusting what you are doing to the elderly. Shame on you!

Reliably clean store and courteous employees. Excellent customer service. I gave it only four stars because I found they had closed early the last time I tried to go there. The doors were locked although the time on the sign in their parking lot read 12:55am.

It's a great place to stop by in North Pole. It's best for families that are going to be doing small shoppings and for individuals. It's more expensive than the Fairbanks counterparts because of the sales tax in north pole.

Well the shelves were not stocked well. They had no checkers, just self check. Self check employee would not call one. I had to go to the customers service for service. Not going back.

This store has some RUDE individuals working there.Last night I had about six items in the self check out it was about 5 o’clock busy as all hell.. huge line.. I ring up my 6 items, the total comes to 29.75. I attempt twice do use my debit card which both times it’s declined… at this point people are all starting to lineup and stare…I turned to look for the woman who is working the self check out she’s nowhere to be found… So I grab all the things that are already in bags and set it right behind her second self checkout counter… I have my two sons with with me as well, One waits next to the bags of stuff I left while I ran down to Alaska USA to get cash ( SINCE NY CARD KEPT DECLINING AND I KNEW I HAD MONEY IN MY ACCOUNT) in this like 5 minutes that passes, said woman working self check out discovers that I had walked away from my transaction… and by the time I get back, grab the bags to re-ring them up, said woman is up in my face saying that she reported it as theft when the items was sitting behind her the whole time! I explained to the woman who was completely rude what had happened. I also explain to her why would I put in my club card information and ring everything up if it was going to be theft!??!?? (Mind you WITH my son who is an employee) And the thing is is this is the second time somebody’s approached me and accuse me of stuff in the store when I’ve never stolen anything from this establishment. The first time it was based on looks alone - a woman ran up and started yelling at me in front of everyone in the store that I had been trespassed which had never even happened. This was about 4 years ago. I am a 43-year-old mother who’s been shopping at the store for the better part of six years and my eldest son works there!!!!!!!!I’m just going to say that the customer service in this Safeway SUCKS. The employees attitudes SUCK. (Not all- but damn, you got some rude ones in there.) And this woman accosted the wrong lady yesterday. And when I told the woman to go check the cameras she tells me “oh we can’t do that it’s 5 o’clock it’s busy right now” NOT MY PROBLEM LADY!The experience was completely embarrassing and I’m disgusted with the way that your store is ran.TRASH!

My husband bought me red roses from Carr's in North Pole for our anniversary. Three days later they already started to wilt, despite me putting the plant food in the vase. I brought them back to customer service later. The response from customer service was , there is nothing we can do. Excuse me?? Your store is selling flowers that only last 3 days, but you cannot do anything?? Well, I can do something! I can NOT SHOP AT THIS STORE ANYMORE!EDIT:The store reached out to me and made it right! 😄

I get being short handed however for a manager to try and discourage a customer from purchasing something they are in need of because it would require them to grab a key and unlock a cage which should only take all of 4 minutes of there time max. It does not make a customer feel like it would be worth shopping at this location because the employees can't be bothered with assisting customers if one might need. only reason I did not give this a one star is because I do understand what the manager was having to deal with at the time and the frustrations that come with it is just it could have been handled differently without trying to make a customer change there mind about purchasing an item.

Well, where to start? Never any managers around, shelves never stay full, they fire people without notice or informing them. ( Theyre always short staffed as well !)

I like this safeway location mostly! It is clean, employees are helpful and polite. They make sure the customers are taken care of! Customer service is pretty quick and they are also polite!I love that there is a bank inside. Very convenient and bank people are also friendly.Update:Bank has moved into the mall. So still close. Mall closes at 8pm.

It's a grocery store. There is always a line to checkout cause, like most big business now they don't hire people they want you to use selfcheck out.

We have only been there once. But the first impressions weren't too bad. Store was well stocked, just the least bit tidy, but fine. The prices seemed high to my wife and I, but it is Alaska, big, big tourist State. We had no real regrets, was a bit busy, and us being from another state didn't have their club card, but the lady behind us let us use hers, and the cashier didn't mind, so it saved us some money!

Overall, very friendly staff. The downside is North Pole has out grown this store. This store is in need of a refresh on the inside. It is a great one stop shop for all your food needs. They have excellent fried chicken in the deli. Fair price and better than KFC.There are some items that I would recommend you shop elsewhere for: toiletries, cleaning products, paper products. Safeway seems to be on the high side price for those items.This store is very busy between 430-630pm.Note: There is an Alaska USA CR and ATM in the back of the store.Update, store was refreshed on the inside in 2021. Much better and up to date motif.

North Poles only supermarket, it can be pricey, but if you coupon it's not much more expensive than any other Alaska market.

They're pricey, usually only go here when the commissary doesn't have what I need. Sometimes you can see crackheads fighting outside. Pretty standard Alaskan grocery store.Mediocre Safeway, they rarely have doughnuts, no Chinese food, and their ready to eat section is usually picked clean.

My first time in Alaska. I never knew what to expect from a grocery store because Alaska is so far away from the lower 48. I came into Safeway and I was very amazed with the variety of fruits, vegetables and everything else you are accustomed to in the lower 48 supermarkets. I would compare to a few big supermarket chains I know outside Alaska, like Publix, Jewel, Kroger, Winn Dixie, etc.

Shelves are bare most of the time. Couldn't get most the things I went for. No cashier available so I had to use self check out for a cart full of groceries. Not enough room to put the bags so the attendant had to keep resetting it. Its getting to the point that driving to Fairbanks is worth it now. This Safeway has gone pretty far downhill.

Fairly typical Safeway. Prices are noticably higher than other locations, but North Pole is a fairly small town and isn't far from Fairbanks, which of course has Fred Meyers, Walmart and other Safeways. So it's just nice to have a shopping option close by. The parking lot can be a little hectic because of how many shops and stores share it.
