Ketchikan offers a plethora of Alaskan souvenirs, but many are inauthentic and feature generic designs that can be found in other ports. This is why Ketchikan is often considered the shopping hub for Alaska cruisers. As one of the first or last stops in Alaska, it boasts numerous gift shops, and one of the prominent ones is Tongass Trading Company, which even has multiple outlet locations. They offer a wide range of souvenir items and promote themselves as a 'shortcut' to Berth 4, though it's important to note that you can bypass the shop by strolling along the boardwalk. If you purchase clothing in Ketchikan on your cruise's first stop, be prepared for disappointment in the subsequent ports, as they may carry the same designs with the city name swapped out. If you don't mind the repetitive designs, just consider switching them up with each port you visit!

My family and I stopped to shop here back in 2019 during our Alaska Cruise. I was impressed with the selection and the prices in my opinion.I made the vast majority of my purchases on this cruise at this location during the stop in Ketchikan. The boardwalk will basically take you all the way from where your cruise ship is docked all the way to Tongass Trading Company. So prepare to walk a fair bit.My whole family also bought clothing, souvenirs etc. The service was efficient and courteous.

I have been purchasing my tennis shoes from here for several years now. I like to try them on and like to purchase the pair that fits well. I have a hard time ordering shoes online because I don't like to wait for them to get here in the mail.

Tongass has 4 stores conveniently located in the cruise port area. They have a good selection of clothing, souvenirs and snacks. They also can ship bulkier items home for those visting Ketchikan.

Wife and I spent hours shopping. We took each item to the counter, because it is what we do at home. Sometimes expected so sales people know you aren't walking out with items. I Literally had $200. worth of merchandise.The Sales People behind the register put everything back out on the floor.. I walked over to purchase the items and saw they had put everything back.When I gave my perspective the young reps maybe college to high school age didn't seem to care. So my wife and I just walked out of the store empty handed.The store had Nice Gifts/Inventory etc, but the apathy they had about wasting our time by putting everything back out on the floor was Annoying and disappointing.

Went there to pick up some extra rain gear while on our cruise. They had a large selection of outdoor clothing. Everything from rain gear, base layers, caps, and shoes. A little pricey, but not unexpected given the remoteness of the location. Was happy to be able to pick up a lightweight pair of ring pants.

Decent store for souvenirs. I was looking for mostly stuff made locally or in the US. I didn't want anything made over seas. It is in a perfect central location. I also really enjoyed the big polar bear!

Awesome staff. Great selection of camping gear on the second floor. The memorial day weekend 25 percent off sale was clutch. Went back several times for gifts, camping gear and rain gear.

What a great store. We shopped and the selection was great, although They didn’t have enough of one item we needed, so Georgia went next door to grab it. She went above and beyond in her customer service. She is was so nice to deal with. Thank you Tongass for hiring such an amazing lady.

Wonderful experience. Each interaction with the staff was top notch. Marsella (not sure if spelling or name is correct!) in the shoe department was extremely knowledgeable and went above and beyond to get the perfect shoes for me.Patrick in the clothing department was also very helpful. Helping us try stuff on and had a deep knowledge of what the best product was.The cashier was also very nice. It was a couple days before Christmas and it was busy but everyone was on top of their game. Really appreciated the friendly environment. 10/10 would recommend.

May 2022 I needed to exchange an on-site robe purchase long distance from California. The Tongass Dock St store customer service was terrific. Located the size needed and held it awaiting receipt of the one I had purchased. Replacement was priority mailed quickly. No shipping charge. Staff was very helpful and pleasant to work with. Great follow up to my on-line inquiry. I recommend a visit to the Tongass Dock St store. Next time I am going to bring an empty suitcase with me and take better advantage of the wide selection and prices.

Tongass has two locations, which we didn't realize at first. The one nearest the water has all kinds of wet and cold weather gear, as well as a good selection of shoes (including Sorel, which is a particular weakness of mine).The second location is more touristy, with the usual gee-gaws, but the upstairs has a great selection of women's clothing. All three of us left with at least one new piece of clothing and our party ranged from 50's to 20's. There was something for all of us.The sales clerk was hilarious! She had her own Easter Eggs in the bathroom and made everyone happy just to talk to her. She was still efficient, even as she cracked us up with her sense of humor.

We bought several great items here when we were in port August 2022, Ketchikan AK. Prices were reasonable and many items were $5 cheaper than all the other stores. Upstairs there is a clean restroom 👍🏻😁 the staff is very nice and the store is clean.

This is the best locally owned store that has always been supported by lie community and has never had to shut down. They have the best quality of items even though it might be a little expensive or is worth it so it doesn't fall apart like Walmart brand items. They have the best staff and cover everything from baby to toys to kids to sports to fishing you name it they have it all in different Department and store location
