My husband and I recently purchased our first horse - “Justice” - from AHR. We were hesitant to purchase from a private buyer with all the stories of behaviors being hidden.I had sent an email inquiring about two different horses, and our experience level, what we were hoping to do with an horse, and they were very responsive and inviting to visit.AHR helped us make a decision for what horse would be a good fit for us, answered our questions regarding his history, and also told us about some of the other animals we can into while we were there. We were able to get in to see him next day.We are boarding Justice after his purchase so we can take riding lessons to ensure that we can get off on the right hoof with our future. My riding instructor McKayla is very knowledge, welcoming, and answers all of my off the wall questions with a smile.I am grateful for the opportunity to have purchased Justice, but also to find the support within AHR from everyone I’ve interacted with to help me on this journey.

We had a very good time at Alaska Horse Ranch in Houston, Alaska. Our guide Laura is great! We learned a lot about horses and about Alaska in general including names of local plants on their beautiful 100 acres of trails. We were a little late and still got over the hour of riding we paid for. We will be back next year for sure!

I love this place! Been there for 8 months now and it feels like family. My favorite part is riding in the arena and everyone helping, suggesting and cheering each other on!

Both of my kiddos take weekly lessons here, and it’s the most family friendly place with some of the greatest instructors. They are patient and have a special way of empowering the kids to take control. The owner is super friendly and very involved in every aspect. We enjoy this amazing establishment and would recommend it to anyone experienced or just a beginner!!

My daughter has been taking lessons here for the last year. All of the instructors are wonderful and it is a very kid friendly environment. I recommend them for anyone who wants to learn how to ride and take care of horses.

The owner of the Alaska Horse has been repeatedly unfriendly and unprofessional when conducting business with my friends. The owner of this ranch bought an older horse from them in January. When bought, part of the signed contract upon sale included terms that the previous owner, a teenage girl, could visit the horse whenever she wanted. When said girl asked throughout the summer, she was met with less than professional response. Also included in the contract were terms that the previous owners, my friends, were to be notified if the horse in question was to ever be posted for sale. Now, this fall, we find out that the signed contract was breached by posting the horse for sale without notifying them. The owner was also warned not to impregnate this old horse as it would cause the animal severe pain and discomfort due to additional weight on aging joints and poor knees. Come to find out, the horse is now pregnant. And my friend, who cared very much for this horse, was told by the owner that if the horse did not quicken with foal, it would be put down. So my friends recently bought back the horse to care for it again, and are out a huge sum of money and have to care for an aged, pregnant horse. This horse, inspected thoroughly upon being released back into their care, had hooves that were severely overgrown, a jaw that was not floated, and several scars that were not there when I last saw her in January. I am appalled at how this wonderful animal has been treated and would not do business with a ranch owner who appears to show an apparent disdain and lack of concern for animals in their care.

This was the most unprofessional interviewing process I’ve ever experienced. The employees were rude and snooty. They weren’t communicative on their part either. When I came in the morning to work I was greeted very rudely and told to leave over a piercing that was “unprofessional”. But it wasn’t mentioned beforehand because if it was I wouldn’t have woke my toddler up to go to the babysitter’s at 7am.Just an overall horrible experience with unpleasant people 1/10 would not recommend. Very just downright mean people, I would never ever bring my horses or my child here for ANY business needs for the sake of their emotional health. It was very draining to be there as an empath and to have to feed off of such negative energy.0 stars. Awful experience. Won’t be coming back, and I will be making sure all of my friends and family never give this place they’re business because I’ll be damned if they treat my family like that.

I sold my 23 yo mare ‘Danse’ to the owner, Lynda Plettner, this spring. I included a buy back clause into the bill of sale, and repeatedly mentioned the mare’s degenerative knee disease which prevented her from being sound for breeding or heavy riding. Lynda said this was fine and she would be lightly used as a kid’s riding horse. 7 months later, I saw Danse posted for sale on Facebook, also pregnant. Lynda made no effort to contact me about Danse being sold or to buy her back( which I would have done in a heartbeat). When I visited Lynda’s ranch in big lake, she was very rude and unprofessional towards me and my family. When I asked about Danse being bred despite her knee issues, Lynda replied “good legs or bad legs, a horse has to be useful or I will put them down”. Lynda Plettner’s unprofessional and rude behavior shocked me as she seemed to be friendly in our previous interactions. I bought Danse back for three times the amount I sold her for ($2500), pregnant - and suffering from medical care neglect to the point of affecting her well being. Lynda Plettner has a rich horse stable and pleasant employees, but she is money-oriented, rude, and unprofessional. I was not surprised to learn that I am not the only one who has been subjected to manipulation by Lynda Plettner after widely sharing my experience. There is no shortage of stables owned by genuine and honest people to board your horses or take riding lessons; I encourage you to give them your business rather than someone who has no issue manipulating anyone to her agenda. There is a reason that many equine professionals in Alaska refuse to work with Lynda.

Well trained horses, fabulous riding trails, a variety of arenas, staff is remarkably professional and pleasant. Best stable in the state, by far.

My friends' kids ride there and they love the place. If they could stay all day they would. They love the summer camps that run for 4 days.
