Store manager and corporate must not give a damn about this store. Outside is absolutely filthy and they don’t care to clean it. Inside is a lot better but they don’t clean the floors very often I guess. There’s always homeless people hanging around outside and bothering people and they don’t care about that either. Go to Fred myers literally down the street. It’s clean and they seem to care a lot more about their store and customers

Been in twice in the last few weeks. The restroom (only one of two are working) is atrocious. The floor, the sink, the counter and the toilet look as tho they haven’t been cleaned in a very long time. The trash was overflowing today and the hand towels were empty. This is the premier Safeway in Fairbanks, there should be no excuse. It makes me wonder about the food prep areas.

The shriveled up, old, grey haired prune working in the liquor store should be cut loose for retirement, where she obviously wants to be. Made the most rude comment (that I wasn’t too bright) and has no clue about customer service.

Always love to come shop at Safeway, the Fairbanks location off of Airport Rd has an amazing staff that showcases amazing customer service. Shoutout to the young woman who helped me with my shopping experience yesterday when I came in for some food and necessities. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Used to give 5stars, but the evening manager ruined that. She is beyond rude and snappy, the store director didn't seem to care. She snatched a money order from my hands and waved it around. The back of the store also always smells like diarrhea. The only people who get watched in self check out are natives. The one lady stood so close to me and my whole 2 items I offered to hold hands with her if it would make her feel better. Watched several white people go through and they didn't watch them at all.

Safeway has a good floor plan for spacious shopping. If there was only one item I could purchase at this store it would be the artisan bread they make fresh in the bakery. The pharmacy was administering covid vaccines, which we thankfully received today.

Three stars because of the dark, dingy, dirty, rundown, unisex bathrooms. I completely avoid them unless my little grandchild has to use one, and then I feel like we both need a shower after we exit. Your bathrooms reflect very badly on the rest of your store. In spite of that, I do the majority of my shopping here and am pleased with the service, the selection, and the pharmacy. But please do something about your restrooms, and if and when you do, please go back to separate facilities for women and for men. Unisex bathrooms are not pleasant.

We went in as a quick stop before our flight and ordered a sub at their deli. The gentleman behind the counter took a lot of care and pride when he made my sandwich. I didn’t appreciate it as i should at the time because i was in a hurry. But it was clear as i ate the sandwich. It was delicious and his care was greatly appreciated. Best part of my day.

Good place but needs working on, too dirty like I'd rather go the bathroom outside than use theirs. The place smells in some spots and stuff is kinda everywhere. The Fred Myers across is better and bigger and has more stuff, also much more clear and better price. So just go there.

The man in produce was friendly and helpful. We found most of what we needed (bought the rest at Fred Meyer). I wanted items from the deli, but the tops of items were dried and discolored, which was unappetizing, so I skipped those items.

I rate Safeway West a 3 on their customer service desk. I called today to get some of my favorite creamer, they were the only one in town that had it. The customer service desk lady was nice and took the time to check if my product was in stock. When I came to the store she remembered us. That’s nice. The prices are high at Safeway, compared to Fred’s low prices and bigger selection. I do however love their cut fruit and vegetables. They make dinner ideas easier with fresh cut tomatoes, onions and lettuce for burgers. Guacamole, fresh salsa, chopped tomatoes and everything for fresh nachos is awesome! They need improvement on their cashier customer service. Sometimes it’s like they don’t pay attention to the customer at check out. The shelves are stocked well, prices being still too high. The courtesy clerk was nice and polite, Very much appreciated. Spend about couple hundred dollars on four grocery bags.

Editing to reflect its current state.I've been shopping here for years since it was a great alternative to the chaos that's Fred's across the street. The selection is great but I cannot rate it higher because of the deli.The old woman behind the deli counter is unbearably rude and has been for years, along with a few members of her staff. Any requests for a sandwich or help just leads into confrontation. This was addressed to the store manager Sunny when he was around but still nothing has been done. Its such an uncomfortable, bad experience going to the deli department that it kills any interest or motivation to shop elsewhere in the store.If this single issue was addressed, it would easily make Safeway a much better place to shop.

I heard more than 2 separate employee conversations of cursing and yelling about what the previous employee did or did not do. Felt uncomfortable, dirty and unsafe. It was really surprising for fairbanks.

I also gave them top rating at the store as they are currently taking a pin pad survey. They were well stocked and full staffed. That is hard for any store right now so thay alone was impressive. But they were super busy. Not a free cart in the store. Their cart retrievers were on a never ending loop heading out into the negative weather to bring more in and the cashiers never seemed to stop scanning. For anyone who has never worked retail you should understand that they can reach 10000 steps a shift. For the cashiers never getting a chance to lower their arms that leaves them sore. Try holding your arms out for 2 minutes, now think of an 8 hours shift. Many times this leads to the workers to have poor attitudes because they are sore, want to be with family for the holidays, and too often customers have poor attitudes when a store is busy and thay rubs off on them. I interacted with a few staff members and witnessed a few others during my wait. Everyone was laughing and seemingly enjoying their shift. I didn't witness anyone being unprofessional or rude. That is very impressive. I have worked retail management and couldn't always get a team that worked that well. Especially a busy day before a holiday.

it seems like the Safeway on University is always out of everything on my list. I understand maybe being out of 1 or even 2 items, but everything? Almost everytime I make a trip, it feels like a waste of time, really frustrating. They need someone a little more efficient handling the inventory. For that many things to be out of stock is clearly not good for business. Just stating the obvious, sorry guess I'm just a little annoyed.

Deli is always fresh and if it isn't, they'll offer to make a new batch for you if you have time to wait. They are always incredibly nice and go out of their way to provide stellar customer service!

Safeway saw me looking at the fish counter and even though the manager was off duty with her child came over to me and asked me if I was looking for something special. I told her I was looking for the catfish fillets from Louisiana and she let me know she had just ordered them and they would be in stock and 3 days. They are unbelievable for a boy from the south. Averaging 2 lb each they are not the Chinese farm-raised that you're used to getting. A little trick scrape the dark fat on the skin side off before you slice them up to fry. The fat accumulates the taste of the water they are in and can sometimes be brackish this improves the quality of your fillet tenfold. Fry them in cornmeal with black pepper red pepper garlic summer Savory and tarragon.

Everyone there was fantastic. We loved the associate cashier at self check out. However the Courtesy Clerk did not even respond when I said hello. He seemed very unhappy at his job.

Highly unpleasant, very high traffic. Nobody ever around to help you find things, always one visibly overworked cashier, associates push you into the self checkout lanes that don't work properly. Millions of people are unemployed, is it too much to hire more people so my shopping experience isn't so miserable? I wouldn't reccomend going there at night.

Bakery is super inconsistent. Got a cake that was great the first time and went back a few weeks later and got another . If you get ANY kind of fruit filling , especially strawberry I would ask for double or EXTRA filling because my cake was so dry and the THINNEST slices of strawberries . Tried to talk to someone about the same evening and they didn’t care . Will be supporting local small businesses for now on.

It is your typical grocery store with a decent variety of shopping goods. Floral department is ran by the professionals. They even won an award last year. Asian food section is fairly small. Pharmacy gets your prescriptions ready in a matter of minutes.Overall, I'd give it a 5 star rating, but they are in a heavy need of remodeling.

There was a very nice old lady making sandwiches. Took forever to actually make the sandwich, but she was so nice and we talked about all sorts of stuff. It was like my grandma was making me a sandwich, and it tasted way better because she made it.
