I should have rated this store a year ago and given it 5⭐️. Perhaps it's the universe reminding us to be ever thankful, because if you are not, you may lose what you hold as precious. Today, I write this review in hopes that someone on the corporate side of things can see that the changes they've made are noticeable. But in no way, was this good. There are some people who like change for change's sake. Myself, I hope the spirit of change continues with this store until it chamges back to the shining gem of commerce it was, you know, before someone in control and with a vendetta against vegan/vegetarian/ or just plain healthier choice decided to make their resentment felt.Now, with the produce section decimated to a fraction of what it was, you're more likely to find what you're looking for at Walmart, Safeway, or the East side Freds. Maybe even the Co-op downtown? Alternative foods is generally a thing of the past. And the organic selection? Well, an employee pointed me to one of the integrated areas when I was looking for a can of Amy's soup. I could tell as he was talking, that he was telling the customer the lies he was told to say. Simply put, the organic selection, while small before, is all but non existent in anything but name. Many of the selections left are obviously picked because they are corporately lucrative, not because of their quality ingredients.In the end, disappointing.

Wish you would have never done the remodel. It’s nearly impossible to find things in this store. Who organizes a store and separates paper goods to put napkins with paper towels but paper plates are now in the same isle as bread? The produce section shrank and the quality went down as well. Rearranged the store so people have to shop longer because they can’t find what they came for.

Exceptional selection of foods. Great organic selections as well as pré-made and bakery goods. Feels like a Whole Foods with similar prices. Excellent grocery selection!!

WEST is the one by the Airport. It’s on Airport Way. This is the WEST location. Closes at 11pm, yet does extended hours during Holidays. Everything you need and more might be here. Get a rewards program, my 99 grocery ring up went down to 80 right in front of my eyes. Main door (middle) access only after 9pm.

This store has a local cult following simply because of how long it's been in Fairbanks and its proximity to the Airport and UAF but warm, fuzzy nostalgia aside, the place is more of a frustrating headache, with cramped parking, narrow aisles and complete indifference by staff and management about making life harder for customers to shop. It's one thing to stock during the day, it's another to completely crowd aisles that can barely hold two customers side by side as is.The management of this particular location takes full advantage of their customers, often providing subpar service, often inadequately staffing service areas like the deli and meat department and using systems in self check that encourage customers to wait longer than what's necessary(It's not unusual to see one person behind the meat/fish counter or deli counter trying to serve multiple customers at a time while other staff behind the counter walks by). The entire experience, even before 2020, is one massive inconvenience from beginning to end, from the second you pull into the cramped parking lot to when you leave.Save yourself the hassle and just head over to Safeway across the street, which carries most of the same grocery items for often slightly cheaper prices. Service is generally better, meat and seafood is literally bought from the same distributor and cut fresh. The store is just far more streamlined.

Huge store with great prices. We were looking for souvenirs and birch syrup. They had 2 huge section with souvenirs which was great and fairly price but no birch syrup. Great customer service too.

Fred's is the main grocery store in town. They have good produce, and quite a large selection of all kind of goods. Clothing, baby needs, furniture, sporting goods and much more. Pharmacy and liquor store as well as electronics department. In the summer a well stocked garden department. Good customer service.

Freds Airport way store is doing a reset, and moving the food products around. You will need to relearn where things are. Store was not too busy for a Wednesday afternoon. All was good.

One stop shopping. Friendly, helpful staff. - update 2024, the variety has gone down and availability is also if he sometimes. Just the overall shopping experience is not as great as it once was. Still, at the end of the road we don't have much choice. Especially if you have more than just groceries to shop for.

Ordered a graduation cake what can I say the cake looked like it was decorated by a 4 year old severely disappointed!!’ Coupled with the poor looking cake the gal in the bakery department had a terrible attitude. I took the cake to customer service and left it there and refused to pay for it .

I am over 40 with valid photo ID and the cashier refused to sell me cigarettes, said I had to leave the building and go to fuel center for them. So I did leave and went to Safeway. I'm a vendor I'm in this store 6 days a week and I'll be doing all my shopping somewhere else from now on.

Food is too expensive to sell produce with microbial growth on it. I don’t care if it’s not expired on the package, if I open it up and smell something awful with carrots i shouldn’t have to bring it back to the store for the produce to be “inspected” to see if I am telling the truth. It’s carrots for Pete sake. Whoever I talked to on the phone is a jabroni, and not the good kind. Also, digital coupons are not customer friendly, especially in a store that largely lacks cell service. Put your wifi info out at each coupon or something more courteous to the customer. The manager at this location should pull their head out of their nether regions.

The self checkout is terrible, half of them don't even work and I have to wait in line longer to bag my own stuff. A group of red vest managers stood and watched us through. Why can't they ring us up? Why not pay employees a living wage so they'll stay? Everything is way too expensive, $23 dollars for a pack of paper towels? You really don't care about the people in your store.
