Rea Cord is the most nastiest person I have ever met. Such an awful personality... Hateful, rude, judgmental as heck. There is no reason to be rude and take your negative feelings out on people. I honestly pity the animals here and hope they can go to good homes. I have valid vet records & references yet denied an adoption. Why? I'll never know. My pets are fixed and UTD on vaccines. She tried to say they weren't. Dont try to talk down to me and accuse me of being a careless owner when i have documents. Why lie? Animals take 24 hours to be approved and adopted out yet every time I've applied, I've been denied and told they were already adopted, even when the pet was listed less than 24 hrs ago. I don't get it. Now the fun part... I've volunteered to potentially work here. The kennel assistants (& I guess she's like a vet tech?) are rude too & careless. The way they clean and care for cats is questionable. I've witnessed cross contamination from the quarantined room to regular rooms, amongst many other things. I used to praise Elmore's shelter for being a good example to other shelters, but my God. Rea Cord, you need to seek therapy. Instead of judging, why don't you teach and educate? Denying people for minuscule things doesn't make you look like a great business owner or a great person in general. Learn to work with people instead of jumping to conclusions and making an @$$ of yourself.

update! I went elsewhere and was accepted without being interrogated and without being treated like trash. Denied adoption bc I dont have vet records... I've never had a pet or adopted... so how else am i supposed to adopt animals in need?? Rea Cord don't even try to communicate with you. Her messages are all one sided and she wants to have the last word. Very accusatory and argumentative. Ms Cord u are a miserable person and u make sure everyone else is too

To all the one star reviewers I am with you. I tried to adopt and wasn’t able to because I didn’t list anything about my veterinarian.I wish the animals the best with the time they may have in life after being subjected to this place. Of course they don’t encourage adoption, the animal are dollar signs in the eyes of the ones who run this place.

got a "3 month old dog" from them that was in "perfect health" she is neither I love her to death but she has clearly been mistreated in some way she had scabs all over her neck some bald patches that around her eyes that looked like demodectic mange (still need to get it checked out) and she is 5 months or older according to size charts she could be 9 months old so not 3 and she has extreme behavioral issues and isnt open to training in the slightest me and my family believe this behavior has come from being mistreated and not properly looked after she is a border heeler and from the looks of it she got no extra care given for her high energy levels also we got hung up on by them when we called to ask what her age really is and to inquire about how a return process works (we are not bringing her back there)

I'll start by saying we are very happy with the pup that we adopted. With that being said, I am generally not one to leave poor reviews, but this is needed. Rea Cord is one of the most unpleasant people I have ever met, and I feel sorry for the animals that she is the director of the humane society. She was unprofessional, accusatory, and all around blatantly rude. I came in to my appointment, followed the process as requested, and ended up adopting the dog we were looking at. If it wasn't for my love for animals, I would have turned around and left immediately. On a positive note, the rest of the staff was very friendly and finished the adoption process in a timely manner. As happy as we are with our pup, I will most certainly never return.

We have adopted 3 fur babies and our experience was great both times and all were so nice. Yes, screening is a process for adoption which I am glad. I guess to ensure the fur babies are placed with the right family. The screening helps make the best fit for all involved. Thank you ladies. 💕

I'm writing after having a rude encounter with Rea Cord this afternoon regarding a dog that I surrendered due to aggression. I called to get a follow up on Bentley my German Shepherd. Upon talking with her she rudely informed me that Bentley was put down the same day and that she did not have to time to talk to me because of being busy. After calling back she then stated that she did not have time for this and that I bought them an aggressive dog. I understand that my dog was aggressive which is why he was surrendered but that in no way means that he was less than or not loved by my family and I. This was not an easy decision to make nor do I ever want to make such a decision again. It would be very helpful if staff especially the director would be more compassionate. I can not imagine anyone with an attitude such as this working with animals. Hopefully Ms Cord will be more compassionate to the next person that she has to deliver such news to.

Picked up a cute 3 month old Shepherd mix on the 27 JAN 17. Over the weekend he just got sick. Emergency vet today and find out the puppy has parvo and upper respiratory infection. Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious virus that can affect all dogs, but unvaccinated dogs and puppies younger than four months old are the most at risk. So now instead of $100 rescue dog, he will cost close to $2000. Truth be known I could of bought a healthy pure bred german shepherd puppy for far less. New owners beware..

Went here awhile back. They let me walk thru and pick my puppy out...I was so excited! But then they hit you with application and screening and if you have other dogs or cats keep that to yourself. They'll want to do a whole trial and error process over a period of days. If you don't want the animals adopted out and would rather kill them just say that. Don't make it super difficult to adopt a dog. And also don't make the adopter feel like they are criminals needing a second chance. Y'all can have that.

I cannot say enough great things!! I filled out their adoption form online and within 10 minutes had a response and an appointment scheduled for that afternoon to see the dog we were interested in. Upon arrival, the staff was very friendly, the facility was very nice and clean, and the dogs seemed very happy and healthy! We chose a sweet little fella to bring home and the staff had all of the information we needed to know and more! I would HIGHLY recommend visiting this location for adoption!

Adopted my sweet pup from here this past summer. She has been the light of my life and I’m so grateful the staff here took the time to bring out and introduce dogs to me. Being a small shelter, it must get hectic having few staff members and so many animals. However, the staff was welcoming and happy to help during my entire process. Yes the facility is small and it’s not like a major humane society that has the funding to have elaborate kennels and volunteers everywhere, but this group takes what they do have and make the best of it. Every dog and cat was cared for and papers kept at the kennels giving you a brief synopsis of each pets personality, medical records, and history helped guide you when you couldn’t find someone to help. Overall, I was very happy with my experience and hope that everyone considers adopting, helping, or donating to this humane society because they really do care about giving these animals the best lives possible. I’m so grateful and thankful for them! Can’t wait to adopt more fur babies from them soon.

We took dog food. Good people doing good work. There were many nice dogs and cats for adoption. They work hard keeping place clean. Also there's a thrift store next door. Accepting donations and have really nice items for sale. All proceeds benefit Shelter. They are always in need of Clorox, towels, blankets, shredded paper, many other things including $$.

The director is extremely rude. Cussed at one of the employees and interrogated us while we visited with one of the dogs. I understand you want to know the kind of home the pet will be in but you can ask questions without being rude! My mom was looking for a companion and I can assure you the dog would have had a wonderful life. We left because it wasn’t worth being treated like a criminal.

I gave this place a 4 because of the people working at the thrift store today. There was one lady that was very rude to us.The shelter itself was vary good. Staff was great and let us look at a couple of dogs and we ended up with the one we originally wanted.

Love these people! Greatest gift to the animals that really need it. Always a good experience when visiting, and I always volunteer when I can. My absolute favorite humane shelter EVER! If I could give them more than 5 stars I would. They ultimately are in the animals' best interest and best fit for a forever home that's full of love. 😊

We went to look for a little girl cat and we were "picked" by a sweet little boy who is the same age as our other cat. We named him Willy and after dealing with some medical problems we are happy to say that he and Sammy (our other cat) are becoming great friends. The staff at the shelter are great and the over all experience was wonderful.

We adopted this little lady back in April. Her name was "Toga", when we adopted her. Her name is now Daisy. We couldn't be happier with her. She is very sweet and lovable. She is so laid back and loves to snuggle. We just wanted to say thank you.

I give it one star because they have animals. The manager is rude and makes you feel like a x-convict for coming to adopt an abandoned animal. You must make an appointment. Fill out an application and be screened. We visited two other facilities today and they were requiring the same but they did not make you feel like you were lake scum. People should be encouraged to adopt pets.

I adopted Sparky from there twelve years ago. He's still going strong! We are pretty much inseperable. He had already had two homes, and had been returned to the shelter because he was a lot of trouble. He just wanted attention and love. He is still a trouble maker, but in a good way. We love each other , I am blessed to have found him. And, the staff was amazing. They knew we were a good match. He wasn't what I was looking for,but,we needed each other.

Ive been here several times! There are always beautiful doggies and kitties needing a home. This is where im going when im ready to adopt! If ever missing an animal, this is the 1st place to call just in case they picked them up. @ the store/shop part, there is always something for someone here. They have a variety of things for animals too! The prices are decent and im definitely going to shop here again!

It is a really nice thrift store since the new building has opened up. It is easy to shop and the prices are reasonable. The prices have gone up somewhat since the new building opened up. All the proceeds go to the humane shelter. All the workers are volunteers, also.

Incredible people, everything benefits a good cause at their thrift store. Volunteers always willing to help you find an item or unload donations. Plus the animals are adorable and you're welcome to walk them while visiting, the staff and pets will thank you!

I've adopted many fur babies over the years and taken great care of them! If anything ever happened in an event that I could no longer care for them, I gave them to others offering a forever home. This time no one was looking for a fur baby so I took my kitten back to the shelter do to me having to move and only being able to keep 2 animals. It was a hard decision, but I chose her because she was younger and had a better chance at adoption. It was a very hard decision and not something I wanted to do in the first place.After I got home I received a phone call from the director who then began to question every animal I had adopted from there. As I was explaining she didn't seem to really care. I'm still confused on why I got a phone call and interrogation when this was the first animal I had EVER had to take back. The animals there need homes, and I wish them all the best, but please DON'T take your animals there if they need new homes unless you want a venomous phone call.
