Kim at the Vestavia store helped my husband years back and just last weekend she came through again! My downstairs looks and smells brand new! Carpet on steps are awesome! Premium vinyl on floors in all three rooms match up to the flooring we installed upstairs! It’s like having a new house! We have not had a good experience with Don's Carpet One in Vestavia. We had carpet and laminate installed. First, we were given a really high quote. When we did our own research online, we found the carpet we wanted much cheaper so when we inquired about that, we were told they would give us a lower price (not quite what it was online though as there were so many service/install fees, they still made up for it. They advertised no labor fees on labor day yet there were thousands in fees on our quote). We were promised a speedy installation but then kept getting calls that there were delays from the manufacturer so it was pushed back again and again. The laminate was installed first and the installers were chain smokers so our house reeked of cigarette smoke when they were done. When carpet install day finally came, we noticed the padding was not the "best" padding. We were told when we were given the quote that we were quoted the best padding we could buy but we were given a step down from that. When we asked, they said they first gave us lots of shady answers but then admitted they didn't have the premium memory cloud padding in their warehouse. We didn't want to delay again so we went ahead with it but we weren't offered any discount or compensation since the wrong padding was installed. Then the installers left noticeable seams in the carpet and scraped up paint on several of our walls. We had to call to have the manager come take a look and then wait weeks to get it fixed. They were supposed to come fix one day and didn't show. I called and was told it was scheduled a different day (it wasn't). So they were supposed to come today but then the installer cancelled again.

I contracted with Don’s Carpet in late 2021 to update kitchen backsplash and countertop. The job was done in short order and at a reasonable cost. A very good experience. Unfortunately, my second experience with Don’s was nothing short of disastrous. Problems which resulted in a very protracted completion time included some mistakes by Don’s staff, supply chain issues, and bad subs. However, I got a personal call from the owner of Don’s Carpet APOLOGIZING for the poor job that had been done and assuring me that it would be remedied with NO additional cost. This included a total do over. While painful, Don’s Carpet made good on it’s owners word and I now have a beautiful new tiled master bathroom. Rough start, bad middle, but a HAPPY ENDING. B. Moore

I had a horrible leak in my master bathroom which ended up requiring me to replace master shower and the closet that is on the level below it. The master shower was tiled floor to ceiling (including the ceiling). The tile I needed was discontinued from Italy - and NO TILE seemed to match. That is where Dons Carpet One Floor & Home in Vestavia came in. I worked with Jesse and HHI Construction to formulate a design plan that 1. Saved me from having to retile the entire bathroom and 2. Delivered a new look that my wife and I loved.***When they time came to install the tile it was a COMPLETE disaster - the installer they sent totally butchered the job and quit in the middle with no one knowing about it NOT even Don’s (It was so bad I thought I was being pranked - speechless and I was furious!!). However what happened afterwards is what oddly prompted me to give this five star review. When I called and vented my frustration to management (Jabin) he was very professional and accepted complete responsibility and displayed a rare sincerity in his effort to rectify the dilemma. I VERY RELUCTANTLY allowed them to fix what was damaged instead of pulling out, requesting a refund, and going elsewhere. They did so at a DEEP cost to them and no additional cost to myself. Jabin graciously explained this installer was newly hired and had done a few jobs and displayed competency and professionalism - but obviously Don’s and I were fooled. As a retired Sergeant Major in the Army (21years) I understand as a leader/manager sometimes bad things happen even with good intent - however their response and professionalism afterwards showed me the company’s true character. Dons Carpet One responded by accepting responsibility and fixing the issue in an expeditious manner. This is INTEGRITY - rare in our day - mistakes happen not often but they do happen. Don’s displayed how to respond with Integrity and Professionalism to uphold the company’s character and reputation. My master bath is today BEAUTIFUL and it was done in a timely manner with precision and skill. I recommend Don’s Carpet One for their selection and their availability of high end materials - BUT- most of all because they stick to their word, their craftsmanship, and products! Good men and women of integrity that work to place the customer first.

I bought grout, tile and plumbing system from them. When I gave Jesse my measurements for my tile, he encouraged me to buy extra so tht I would have some tile if I needed it. When I finished my tile, I had 3 full boxes of extra tile. When I called Jessie to return the extra grout and tile, he informed me they do not take returns. I informed him tht I was not informed of tht nor was it on my receipt. He eventually took the grout back but not the tile. I will never buy flooring from Dons Carpet again!!!!! They are very unprofessional!!!

We used Don’s in Vestavia to order tile for a bathroom project because years ago I used Don’s in Trussville to do my tile floors in my kitchen and bathrooms and had such a wonderful experience working with them.  The experience with the Vestavia store has completely soured us on Don’s and we won’t be using them again for future projects we have for our house.  As our project progressed, it became obvious the employee we were working with at Don’s, Steven Kitchens, did not know how to order tile or supplies based on measurements provided by our contractor.  He ordered no bullnose tile and when our contractor called to find out where it was, he stated “It was supposed to be on your order”.  So we had to pay expedited shipping to get the tile in since the job was in progress.  We also ordered a Schluter pan system from them, which my husband found out after doing a quick Google search, requires UNMODIFIED thinset.  Steven ordered us MODIFIED thinset, something we could not use for the shower pan system we bought from them.  When we asked the manager at the store for a refund on the thinset that was mistakenly ordered by them, he refused.  His reasoning was that he offered our contractor to exchange the thinset and they decided to purchase from another store.  The reason they chose to do that is because Don’s supply store is located approximately 45 minutes from our house and there is both a Lowe’s and Home Depot within 5 minutes of our house.  Our contractors had already been running back and forth to their store several time for other minor ordering issues, including Steven not ordering the appropriate amount of backer board.  So I would prefer them go to a closer store for supplies when we were having to pay for their time.  At the end of the project we had so much overage for subway tile and an 8x8 mosaic tile that was over $3.60 a tile.  Steven had ordered us 3 boxes of subway tile, and we had 1 and a half boxes of untouched tile left over.  The expensive mosaic tile was even more grossly misordered in my opinion, since it was purchased by the tile.  We enlarged the section where we used this tile AFTER getting in the tile, going from 55 pieces to 66 pieces.  We were left with 21 additional pieces of tile!  If using the original plan that was measured and provided to Steven, we would have had an overage of 32 pieces of tile.  At $3.60 a piece, this was a significant cost.  We’ve tried repeatedly to work with Raj, the store manager, to return the incorrectly ordered thinset and the exorbitant overage of tile, but he only wants to blame our contractor for his employee’s mistake and will take no ownership of the situation.  Our contractor, by the way, has an A+ business rating with the Better Business Bureau and top scores on HomeAdvisor and many other business rating sites.  Steven and Raj at Don’s in Vestavia do not care about the customer, they only care about making a sale.  And once your card has been charged, they have no interest in ensuring you are happy with the product or their service.  We will never work with this Don’s again and we will advise all our friends and family to steer clear of this business.
