We save many babies from here like Macy that would otherwise not make it out the doors.

We adopted a dog. The staff was amazing! Courteous and professional. The adoption process was easy.Note: If you already have pet(s), prepare to bring them by for a meet-n-greet. It's best to see how they get along. This is a necessary requirement for owners who already have pets. They have an abundance of dogs to adopt. Please consider adopting one. We're so glad we did!

The staff are sweet, this is a kill shelter if they are full, drop offs and owner surrenders have a higher percent of getting killed, not even if they are full. The director Mike needs to resign, he just killed 3 a rescue could have coordinated and pulled. No weekend, no after 5 adoption, no volunteers....

It's not a place I ever thought I would be picking my fur baby up from but he happened to get out of the gate late in the evening a police officer snatched him up and took him here. I was able to talk to the police officer and I'm thinking her name was Jessica before closing and she told me I could pick him up in the morning and that's what I was able to do. They were kind and courteous and I appreciated their help. Thanks

Worst shelter EVER. Roxy still had a DAY to live. I had two homes for her. She was KILLED and not given the chance she deserved LAST NIGHT. I was more than willing to pay for her stay, or do anything I could until her new family would have picked her up Saturday. Her life was cut short, she wasn’t given a chance. She can’t have kisses, she can’t experience a pup cup, or even love or a family. She’s gone. We are all incredibly distressed, depressed and livid.Roxy deserved a home. Maybe if you were patient enough (just by 12 hours) she would have received that.

No one came to my home to get the pregnant dog what the guy left when he moved out of the trailer park, and I'm on oxygen

Stood outside for 30mins nobody came to the door. This other lady and me waited and knocked waited and knocked they never came to the door. Someone finally pulled and said she was on lunch. She don't know why the other person didn't come to do at least tell us they were short staffed or some.

They are very rude! If I was in any way able to care for the 6 kittens i found on the side of the road and if I had room I wouldn't have bought them up there. Not only did she act like I was lying but any question she ask was asked with an attitude.

The staff is extremely unprofessional and lack basic communication skills. I recently surrendered a stray dog , and for some reason the staff had a preconceived notion that I was the owner of the dog. Rather than assertively asking if I was/knew the owner, the staff made a multitude of passive aggressive and indirect remarks alluding that I was the owner. Although, I clearly stated I wasn't the owner upon arrival and several times throughout our short conversation, a deputy had the audacity to follow me to my vehicle and continue questioning me about my ownership or lack thereof.

Adopted our new puppy from here today. The staff were pleasant and made the adoption process very easy. Adoption fee was $95 and you must have cash or check.

Had a sad experience. Elderly family member was bitten by a stray cat they had been feeding for a few weeks. Called shelter for advice on what to do. They contacted Phenix City animal control who showed up within 15 minutes to take a report and setup a cage to catch the feral cat, and advise us to go to ER to have wound treated. The cat was trapped and taken for observation. Sorry for the cat but you need to avoid strays for your own safety and the shelter for your protection and the animals. We were very impressed by the professionalism of the shelter and the officers who handled the report.

I called several times for several days about a cat that was suffering and needed help.an infection so bad there was a hole in his face and the cat looked to almost lose his eye. I even offered to pay for the cat to get treatment . The only thing I needed help with was to be able to catch him because he was so scared and won’t let me grab him.I was told each time they will take my information and call me back and never did . The last person I spoke with was Ashley . I am sure you guys have a lot going on but this is your job! to help animals and you didn’t do your job at all ! Shame on you people !!

They were great! Very friendly and helpful.I adopted a puppy from here on Thu 6/28/18 we had to have him put down this morning 6/30/18, because he had parvo. He was part of a surrendered litter, he was in a kennel with two other puppies. The morning I adopted the puppy another lady adopted a dog, and a lady came in to get a dog that she is providing foster care for. I spent $400 ($95 on the dog, $100 on basic supplies food, crate, bowl, etc. $125 vet visit $75 to put him down.) on a puppy that my family had for two days, I have two small kids 2 and 5 who I had to sit down and talk to about why they couldn't keep the puppy they picked. As upsetting as this is for my family, we are not the only ones caught up in this mess. There are people surrendering animals thinking they are doing the right thing. What about the lady providing foster care to a dog from this shelter, what about whoever adopted the other puppies that our dog was in the kennel with? The animals from this shelter should not be available for adoption. They were very apologetic about the situation and refunded me the cost of the puppy. It was unpleasant, but they were genuine and very understanding.

I adopted a kitten (8-9 weeks old) from Russell County Animal Shelter several weeks ago. My kitten was very well socialized & had obviously been handled by humans on a regular basis. My kitten was litter box trained, a healthy weight, & received a clean bill of health upon his first vet visit. The staff was helpful & knowledgable. The adoption fee was reasonable. Overall, a pleasant experience.

I adopted my newest puppy from here when they were at petsmart for weekend adoption event. Wasn't expecting to adopt a puppy but I did leave with one. He was there with his foster mom and she was very friendly and helpful with information about him. All of what she said was true and I couldn't be more grateful. My husband wasn't too happy about it but once he met him, they've become inseparable. 1 star off because it's a kill shelter.

These SOBs ignored my calls after promising me assistance for the past two days! If you don’t care about these fur babies then why are you even in the business … heartless, cold, and careless! I hate these people! They are trash at being compassionate human beings! STRAIGHT GARBAGE!!!

If your neighbor's animals are running all over your yard, chewing on your children and destroying your property, either get used to it or deal with it on your own. These guys aren't going to do anything about it.

We found our Doxie-Bassett Hound mixed-breed here 5 years ago, but lost her ("Pebbles" [Photo attached]) on December 21st, 2020 due to bladder stones & a slipped disc condition. On January 21st, 2021, we got a little tan "hound" that escaped from her leash only 4 hours after rescuing her (named her "Dixie"), and we have been searching for her for five days now (Jan. 25th).This nice facility is aiding in helping us "catch" her since I reported to them that I think that she has been eating some food left outside on the front & back porches a couple of times. She is a "stray" that has likely been used to being "on her own" although being VERY timid and scared.

I called April 27th 2020 inquiring about a Yorkshire terrier female dog that got taken in on April 27th that same day was told by a male that I had to wait 7 days to make sure no one claims the dog which is understandable. So I return May 4th 20 mins after they opened and was told the dog got adopted. I said ok what about the Schnauzer the white female told me the dog was biting people and wasn’t eligible for adoption so I left and told my oldest and youngest daughter and my 6 year old was in tears because we left without a dog. So I had a friend call on May 5th the very next day and told her to ask about a Schnauzer that was listed on the website and she was told the dog got adopted. I find this weird because I was told yesterday that the dog was biting people and wasn’t eligible for adoption. This is my out take on this situation she held that dog for someone either for a friend, family member or herself. She was with another lady when I walked in but I think she was adopting the Yorkshire not the schnauzer and it look like they knew each other or maybe she just didn’t want a black person to adopt the dog. That dog would have been taken care of financially, physically and mentally in my home. Lots of love to give in my home. This is discrimination and I find this really sad. How the dog wasn’t eligible for adoption due to the behavior and the next day I guess the behavior changes and all of a sudden the dog can now be adopted. Nope I don’t believe that it’s ok though. A manager needs to look into this issue so no one else get treated like this.

Not sure how an animal shelter doesn't take in animals... But the fact that they won't even let you in the door to check an animal's chip to see if it's got an owner or not is weird in my experience for a shelter.

Do not recommend and god forbid your animals ever end up here. They gave my puppies parvo and all but 2 died on me after weeks of battling it. They also failed to follow protocol with putting dogs on leashes before letting them out of the vehicle and my little babygirl was hit and killed on a nearby road. Thank you for making my life miserable rcas.

I told them about a big dog in my yard with puppies. They said they will come to pick her up and bring traps for the puppies as they have been running around.

I called about a dog that was being mistreated, gave all the info and kept being told someone would come. No one ever has and whoever the guy is that takes calls is beyond hard to understand and tried telling me the address doesn’t exist..... even though I live in the same neighborhood. Then to find out they are a kill shelter when I was told they weren’t. Call someone better if you’re trying to help aand if you’re looking to adopt get these animals out of there as fast as possible. Can’t be trusted at all.

I'm gonna be honest about this. The day I went, this pup was on it's death bed. It has been at this shelter for days and refused early release so it could get medical attention. The pup was so weak, it didn't even want to look up. Later that day, it was reported they euthanized it.
