After my baby girl crossed the Rainbow Bridge, I found my sweet boy to make my home complete again. Caring, effective staff. Ignore anyone who posts otherwise. Adopt don't shop.

I won't go here again, I walked in asking to see dogs and was asked a bunch of questions as to what kind I was looking for, etc, which I didn't mind answering but then I felt like I was putting them out when I finally had to ask if I could at least "look" at what they had. The gal then asked a worker if he'd take me back there. The guy was very nice, but I didn't like the way the gal treated me as if I wasn't really welcome there. My daughter told me they weren't friendly when she went there a couple of years ago, but I wanted a dog and thought I'd check them out. I've been to 3 other places and was treated like they actually wanted me to look. I haven't found my fur baby yet but will continue looking anywhere but Pell City. They're not very welcoming.

i adopted my puppy kai from this shelter 8 months ago and he is now the sweetest boy! the adoption process was very easy and we came in close to closing time because we didn’t expect to find & fall in love with this little pup but we did and he is now in his forever home! even though we came in 30 mins before closing the staff didn’t treat us any differently and was very helpful

Very efficient folks ( could use to answer the phone a little more often). Sadly, they do a service that should not have to be done if pet owner's were a little more responsible!

If your looking to adopt a dog this is the place to go. The staff are so friendly and will let you look and pet the dogs. The dogs are all needing homes and I hope they all find one. There great on telling you everything and the whole medical history. Overall wonderful experience I hope these people keep doing what they do

The shelter is very clean and run by what seem to be really friendly, caring people.

If you see suffering and hurting animals, should you bring them to the shelter or just call animal control to let them handle it??? Was able to round up this little guy and surrendered him yesterday to connect with owner or find forever home.

Spotted a very well written and delightful review on one of the o their take ins. They worked with me on directions and holding the dog while I drove in from out of state. Couldn't be more pleased with my new family addition.

Drove all the way from Georgia to get a puppy they had and all was well and good at the shelter but as soon as we got in the car he was sick and it just got progressively worse we took him to the vet and they said he had kennel cough we’ll turns out that’s not the case he passed away less than a week of us getting him. I’m out over $500 (adoption fee, supplies, vet visit) for a dead dog. Ps I know have to figure out how to tell my 3 year old.

New to the area my dog ended up getting lost on our farm and the farm next door call animal control. Thankfully the animal shelter contacted us as my dog had an ID tag. I was unable to pick my dog up on Tuesday as I am a new employee at work. They informed me the shelter was closed on Wensday and I could pick my dog up on Thursday. I arrived to the shelter happy to get my dog back when the employees told me how friendly my dog was. After paperwork and payment I was taken to my dog with puke on his back, urine and poop inside his kennel. Understanding I thanked them for taking great care of my dog and contacting me. The hour drive home to Blount County my dog coughed and gagged and had severe runs. After giving him a bath my dog looked very thin after four days of being picked up and had white stuff leaking from his eyes. Looking up the symptems my dog has Kennel Cough and lacked nutrition. A report is being filed with the city and we are contacting our congressman on what steps we can take to correct the care for animals in this shelter.Update; we took our dog to the veterinary clinic after a few hours of picking him up. They kept him overnight, he had a very high temperature and dehydration which they gave him several IV’s and kept him overnight. At 5:43am my beloved dog died.

We got our furbaby on February 13. He is an angel. The adoption process was easy and the staff was attentive. Great experience!!!

They were super friendly, efficient when i asked to make a donation in memory of a friend, and obviously understaffed. Mawmaw, the sweet greeter dog was precious 💖!They need more support from the community, for sure. Please make a donation or adopt a dog or 🐈 cat. They are the best friends you can ask for.

I really do believe the people working there have a good heart for the animals, but they have got to care more for the health of them.I adopted a puppy a few days ago, on the ride home from picking him up he started having a bad cough. (I work in the vet field and right away could tell it was kennel cough) his belly was also swollen. Took him to the vet and he started to have nasal discharge and the cough got worse, and has diarrhea. Confirmed it was kennel cough, and he has two types of worms. (But they say they give them dewormer? Hm.) you shouldn’t be adopting animals out that are clearly sick. Like any other shelter, you close off adoptions, sanitize and clean until things get better. Kennel cough spreads like wild fire, and it’s not fair to the pets or the owners to fork out a bunch of money on vet bills if they are not made aware the pets are sick. I let them know about this and they said “it’s very common for them to get kennel cough in this environment, so sorry thanks for letting us know”Not a very apologetic response, and don’t seem to have much care about their well being.

I can't say enough about this place. My wife and daughter go there frequently to volunteer and help care for the animals. They enjoy walking the dogs, cleaning the kennels, and helping with the cats. The staff is very kind and helpful and will help you pick the perfect match!

It was a very clean facility with friendly staff. I didn't get to see the dog area but the cat area was very clean and spacious. We adopted a male cat who was just neutered the previous day and he was getting over a respiratory infection. He is much better now, like the vet at the facility said he would be. They also chipped him before we left. Very little paperwork considering. Highly recommend going there and at least checking them out.

This is the best shelter in between Atlanta and Birmingham. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great veterinarian referral. Health looking pets. We happily adopted from here.

I want to be clear that I understand that this is a control center, that can only handle so much with the animals. But, I have been a volunteer and foster parent for another shelter for many years. I recently adopted the sweetest angel dog from this control center, and the experience was alarming. I have another dog at home, and was excited for him to have a friend. I was informed that everything was fine with my new dog, they informed me she had a mild kennel cough. Something I’ve dealt with before, no big deal. I get her home and start to notice a few concerns. Granted, I regret not noticing these conditions during the adoption process, but my mind was focused on meeting her, etc. We discovered multiple, deeply embedded ticks. With infection surrounding the ticks. Dead flea aftermath in hard to reach crevices. And, when we proceeded to brush these discoveries out, chunks of her skin started to release. Leaning toward the early stages of mange. Because of this, I had to take both her and my other dog to the vet. With racked up vet bills because she exposed my dog to these infections. I called this shelter to inform them, not expecting much of anything, but the response I got was a very cold, “well, what did you expect?” I am not happy about this clear negligence. And, wanted to speak my peace.

Want to start off by saying great operation helping animals but, I adopted a Dog yesterday and the person who had given him up had brought in all of his possessions, when I got home and read a letter written by previous owner which was very detailed I am trying to make his transition as positive as I can but a dog stroller was missing. Called the shelter and have been told a foster took it? They will not ask said foster to bring it back. Would not recommend to any one. Animals have a hard time being given up and going somewhere new and when you know what and how the dog has been treated you want to do all you can to make them happy and if you know their routine you do your best to abide by it.But!

I adopted a kitten four days ago. And even since we got her in the car on the way home she’s been nothing but sick.I took her to the vet and where we took her informed us that this shelter has had alot of issues with keeping their animals healthy. I would not recommend going here. I can only do so much for my new kittens sickness. This place should be shut down in my opinion.I took her to the vet because of her illness they gave me some medicine for her but it still wasn’t helping after three days. I finally ended up having to take her back to the shelter because there wasn’t anything else I could do to help her. When I took her back to the shelter the people inside were so nasty to me demanding me to give them a good explanation why I’m surrendering her so I let them have it right back and told them that they let me have her knowing that she was sick and exposed to other sick animals and didn’t even bother to tell me she was sick when I adopted her.

This place helps to save local animals and they're great when you have to surrender animals also.

The place is ok I believe they are trying to help the pets that come in. The reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I have tried several times to by email, messages and phone. All I wanted to know is how to become a foster for some of the animals. What do I need to do. I know they are over crowded and having to turn away so many.

My wife found a dog online that we fell in love with. She called to see if she was still available and we were told she was. We checked multiple times for everything we would need as far as if an appointment was necessary and payment. They told us they don't do appointments but to come on in. We said we would be in on Saturday since we are both working during the middle of the day on a Friday. We then fax over our application and are told we're good. We check back later and the website says she's been adopted. They tell us that yes she has been adopted this afternoon?! I was told that someone else already had an application in for her and they got her first. If this is the case WHY WOULD YOU NOT PUT PENDING APPLICATION ON THE SITE OR AT LEAST TELL SOMEONE INQUIRING THAT SHE ALREADY HAS SOMEONE APPLYING FOR THE DOG?!?! I can't understand this process. Wife and kids very upset. What a joke of a shelter.

I adopted my dog in march of 2021 it is now October of 2021 and she has been one of the biggest blessings in my life this was my first personal dog and not a family dog. She was perfect right from the start all with the exception of they told me she was an Australian shepherd but she is full blooded boarder collie which okay with me and when i got her she had really bad kennel cough it took a week or two but she beat it and had been healthy ever since.

I gave a dog away that was microchipped in june 2022. (LONG STORY) She was turned on to the shelter by the owner in feb 2023. They scanned the dog snd found me. I am so grateful. They went above and beyond to help my dog get back home!!

Never rescuing another animal from here. They indicate that each animal has all their vaccinations when it is clearly not the case. We’ve adopted three cats from this shelter within the past year and have had nothing but health issues. These issues could have been prevented from the start if they would have given our animals the proper vaccinations from the start.

They put two of my dogs down because they were “timid”. No call before they did. Please don’t leave your dogs here to find a better home. I had to cus I had to move and I didn’t have anyone to take them. They told me it was a no kill shelter

Anyone who will take care of a animal that is in need gets 5 stars. What can I say I am biased. I can't be impartial for this review. For all of those who help with the rescue and adoption center, thank you!
