A stray (lost?), medium sized dog wandered onto my daughter's property on March 17, 2024 during very heavy rainfall. I took her in and contacted Animal Welfare Services and established a Request ID# for dispatch to pick the dog up. They closed the request without speaking to me (see below). I tried to respond to them, but they do not accept replies.The following is what I attempted to send them:"I stated (to the operator) that I 'might' have located the owner. I saw a notice on a stop sign for a lost, elderly dog. I called the number and left a message this morning. I left my name and number and said they could text or call me. I have not heard back from them. In the meantime, I am taking care of an elderly, severely emaciated female dog, with fleas and ticks on her, who was wearing a thin, very stiff leather band as a collar which was so tight, it left an indentation when I removed it. I bathed her. She was severely dehydrated and clearly starving. She has difficulty walking because the muscles in her hind quarters are atrophied. Without confirming any details with me, you chose to inappropriately close out Request ID# 4124472 and instructed me to return her to her owner and stated that then I could request that a welfare check be done at the (non-existent) owner's home. Okay, so, abused dog, no owner. Utterly irresponsible service (or non-service) on your part.I live in a 750 sq ft apartment with my own dog and two cats. I can no longer keep taking care of her!! She is very friendly and gets upset when I leave her. I will be bringing her to your facility tomorrow. Then you can do your welfare check (or possibly not) at your leisure In the comfort of your own facility. If an owner is eventually located, you can be responsible for giving an abused dog back to her abuser(s)".(I received an email asking for a rating. I chose one star, but the website won't accept the rating).

Yesterday, going down Bit & Spur, there was a pit bull in the middle of the road chasing traffic, almost causing several wrecks. I stopped along with three other ladies to help corral the dog out of harms way. The dog was very friendly, but no collar or tags. After a little coaxing, I was able to get the pup in the back seat of my car. He was a very good boy, he lay down like he had been in a car many times.I took him to the Mobile,AL animal shelter, hoping that someone would miss him and search for him and find him there, not dead on the side of the road.While I was at the shelter, in the lobby was the sweetest kitty I had ever seen. She had been surrendered by her owner, only 8 weeks old. Well, one look in those mesmerizing green eyes, and I was hooked. Laverne, whose sister Shirley had been fostered earlier in the day, was alone. I lost my tabby mix a couple of weeks ago, and my heart needed some healing. So, to end this long story, Laverne is living with us as we foster her and give her great love and a happy home environment.Fate has a funny way of working!

Scheduled to adopt a dog and they gave it to someone else right out from under me.Irresponsible and unwilling to correct their mistake. Ripped my heart out. Don’t trust these people to hold a dog for you.

The most dedicated shelter with the hardest job in the city. They need towels and blankets. They work under overcrowded and difficult conditions but try their best to make these animals feel loved.

Ceymone is wonderful! We are in Meridian Idaho and are hoping to give Dutch his furever home. She is working with us on possible adoption and transport. We fell in love with him when we checked out the site on Facebook. I keep updated on many adoption sites all over not just Idaho. We are definitely willing to go the extra mile or miles! to help an animal in need and I hope you will as well. If you can not adopt at this time please donate..time, money, food, bedding and most off all LOVE! And please like and share this post with others. Help get the word out for all animals in need. First off i’m very impressed with the facilities that they keep their animals in. Most animal shelters don’t have a lot of funding to work with and are run down, but you can tell they work with what they have and use their funding to fully benefit the animals. There is extremely good AC in every kennel, and they make sure the animals are comfortable and kept in great conditions. The dogs are able to have access to the outside to potty whenever they feel the need to with a little doggy door inside their own kennel, which I think is amazing so they aren’t cooped up and having to sit in their own business. They also let the dogs out to play in the yard and socialize frequently. The cats get to roam around their cat house freely as well when it is their turn to do so, which I just love. You can tell the staff here LOVES these animals and truly wants the best for them. Audrey showed me around and was extremely helpful, knowledge, personable, and wonderful with the animals. You could tell she had a true relationship with each of them and personally cared for them so much. It was also evident they loved her back just as equally. I am just really impressed by the staff and their efforts and care torwards these animals! The animals are truly taken care of better than i’ve seen at most animal shelters. I’m impressed! If you adopt from here, you can be sure your animal has been loved on, worked with, and kept in a great environment! :)

I got my dog here in May of 2015. The lady that showed me and my father around was absolutely incredible and very patient. She heard we had a Black Lab at home and offered to show us another one that had puppies there that were just adopted out. They let me take her for a walk and I just knew immediately that dog was going to be my best friend. Now, four years later, Ella is still with me and she is my best friend. She absolutely loves kids and other people. From the bottom of my heart, I thank this shelter for rescuing my Ella!

I had a case with a dog since November 2022 thru April 22,2023. When I myself did their job and rehomed the dog. But 311 did everything they could do to help me but you wouldn't even lift a finger to make a phone call to help or even find out any info to help. But on those reasons if I could give you a review worse than one star believe me I would.

I visited this location with a kitten i found on the side of the road and they were so rudely dismissive about it . This little kitten was very sick and i was trying to put her out of her misery and bring her somewhere safe , and the lady working there turned me away because they were “Closing”. She was very rude about it and sarcastic . I don’t understand how someone who works at a shelter who helps animals is so quick to turn away a kitten seeking help. Because she didn’t wanna do some paper work. Blows my mind. Very disgusting to think about. That same afternoon my kitten ended up dying in my lap. The animal control guy was very nice and he tried to help me but the workers there need to fix their attitudes. Very frustrating. I hope this doesn’t happen to you

You can tell they really care about the animals and are doing their best to help save them. Because of them, these kittens that I rescued recently will get the care that they need and have a second chance at life. I know it’s not a easy job, so thanks for all that you guys do ♥️

I came in on Saturday March 9th 2019. they told me and my family after we looked through all the dogs all the cats all the animals that was there and we came upon a cream colored female puppy. They told us that the dog would not be available to be sold until Wednesday the 13th because it had a five-day holding. And it was listed in a computer red so they weren't able to sell me and my family in a puppy until Wednesday. I asked the staff there four different people on Saturday if there was anything I can do to save that puppy for me and my family they told me I couldn't fill out the paperwork they told me I couldn't prepay for the dog to guarantee us to keep the puppy. they told me there was nothing I can do until Wednesday. Me and my family drove from Mississippi to get that specific puppy at 9 in the morning on Wednesday and they told us that they sold the dog on Monday despite five staff members telling me and my family on Saturday that they would not be able to sell that dog until Wednesday. that is not the way to do business I was very furious because we took the trip not once but twice and we got there the moment that they open the doors on Wednesday so we can be guaranteed that particular puppy when I brought it to the attention of the staff there they shrugged their shoulders at me they told me like oh there's nothing that they can do because they already sold it. they completely brush me and my family off despite us being very furious for being lied to over dog. then they stated that they sold it to someone that they knew so if they're just holding dogs for people that they know what is the point in having puppies out there if they cannot sell it I did not understand that usually they have a holding area that they hold puppies and dogs that cannot be sold. They had a whole litter of puppies so they were able clearly to sell the puppies because not only was the white puppy that are cream colored puppy that we were supposed to get not available but they also sold two additional puppies that was in the same litter. I did not appreciate being lied to nor did I appreciate the rudeness that occurred when I went there on Wednesday morning to get the puppy from the staff that was there the kennel cages were filled up with poop they weren't clean the the puppy pen was completely covered in feces. I would not recommend this particular shelter for anyone they are not business like at all. not to mention like everybody was on the phone and two people are having personal conversations on the phone when I came in with people in their family like it's a business I didn't understand that at all they're very non-professional.

The staff was very nice and patient ... Very compassionate and understanding. They explained the process clearly. Ten times better than my past experiences. The staff makes the difference. They deserve recognition and a pay raise.

No place to take animals when you don't live in the city. And there isn't any place in chickasaw to take animals i have been trying for months(before the kittens were even born )to find some place to take them and now I don't know what to do(mama is a stray and my dad let her in because of the cold. I can't afford to feed them and I have to move now. I spent 3hrs looking for someplace to take mama and her kittens. All I can say is I really hate the area when it comes to animals. You knew me when I came in asking(begging you to take in kittens. And now I'm guessing they are all dead now because I had to leave them outside . The way for you to address the problem would have been help. I have never seen anyplace turn down animals and I have lived in lots of different states.

I found two cats on their site, Famous and Fabulous which wanted to get for our family. The twin cats were at a Petco store. We lost a cat, and wanted to replace her. My 3 boys liked the cats, and we drove to Petco twice to pet them. We waited 4 days for application approval by the animal rescue team, who took time to call my veterinarian. Be well.

This place is AWFUL. I took them a stray cat because I couldn't take care of her and I couldn't find anyone else who could. They were so rude. The guy I spoke with even suggested that I leave the cat in my HOT car in the middle of ALABAMA SUMMER while I fill out paperwork. You would think that they would be the first to tell you not to do that. I would hate to see how he treats the animals after I saw first hand how he treats people.

Went to adopt a kitten today but they would not let me hold any. When I asked how I was supposed to adopt without petting or holding this kitten, the worker said “well you don’t have to adopt” You would think that a shelter would really want people to adopt but he seemed to have no care at all if the kitten got adopted. It’s also disgusting in there and cluttered. It’s sad that these animals live in this daily and I wish I could have rescued one today from that filth but no one seemed to actually care.

The staff there was friendly, I believe they are run by City of Mobile police, from what the girl that helped me had said. I did not expect to pay for adopting an animal, but they do charge twenty dollars, however, we got an animal that had been neutered, and that's pretty convenient

This place is horrible! Very dirty when I went. They don’t. give a d*mn about they animals. Very money hungry. Was fast to throw me two puppies & didn’t inform me one was very sick. Now im up at 5:30 AM because my puppy keeps throwing up and shaking. I will never deal with this crappy animal shelter again! I feel for the animals that’s stuck there.

These folks need to get their act together. Talk to one person and they say "You can come pick Ruby D up tomorrow". Tomorrow comes and they say, (in a rude voice) "You're 3rd on the waiting list and she's quarantined for 10 days." We were never told these little details. You broke my wife's heart.

My dog was picked up after breaking her leash, they were friendly both on the phone and once I came to the office which was very busy. Fines weren't ridiculous so all in all I was very surprised after reading some of the reviews

Impressed with the cleanliness of the whole place and with the fantastic disposition of the personnel working here, we went to donate some food and towels and other goodies and they were so friendly and grateful compared to the ASPCA place here that is not so clean and even over the phone people have an attitude, couldn't even leave a message, so we went to the City shelter where we were received with open arms, thank you for the work you do!!

They lie...said I could put a puppy on hold and when to pick her up and gave it to someone else..I would not go back there..they are bad with the animals..are dog my husband got is scared of the water hose..now I know why they blast them with the water hose when so called cleaning the cell...I would look other places before I would tell anyone to go there..and everyone said adopt dont buy... think twice about that

These people are nice and caring. They treated my family and my dog who was wrongfully accused of biting someone with care and respect even though he is a pitbull. They loved him.
