Normally I only do restaurant reviews, but I had to post something here because of how absurd the buyback program is at this chain.I wanted to mention first that I like this place. There's great games, lots of books, and plenty of great merchandise. I thought it would be a good idea to try and sell a bunch of books that I had and get some money back.I brought a ton of books. I brought 3 large boxes full of them. After they sorted through them, I filled 4 totes full. I figured that, considering many of them were in good shape, I'd get maybe $100, closer to $150 if I was lucky. The cash offer they gave me was just under $15.As many other reviewers have stated on here, it's not even worth the gas to drive down there. It's absurd how little they pay. It's not the employees fault because it's 2nd and Charles process. Honestly, I'm going to pick up my books tomorrow and donate them to a local small library. Any company who values their sellers that low don't deserve it.

We drive all the way across town to shop here, and it's always worth it. Absolutely love all the cool selections for sale, and the LEGO table can keep the entire family occupied for hours! Wildly varying prices that are often way off base, but there are always good deals to be found.

An awesome spot to hit up for a wide variety of merchandise. Everything from toys, comics, music, movies, books and manga.I actually picked up a used CD that I thought I'd never find and there it was used and at a great price. A great selection of used movies and books, I could definitely file for bankruptcy in this place. So much to see and look through. Very cool!The fact that they buy stuff also makes this an extra bonus. If you have any old books or toys, definitely think about turning them in here and maybe getting some cash back. It's better than nothing and it helps the store. A win win for sure. Would recommend and I definitely will return!

This has to be the most creative book store I’ve even been to!! I can spend hours here easily! They have more than just books! They have tons of very cool gadgets, toys, books, pictures, mugs, guitars, video games, stuffed animals and unique snacks. Go and find something new or used and have a good time!

Very cool place, especially for geeks and nerds! They have tons of used books in great condition. You can also find video games, comics, collectibles, guitars, and niche stuff like Harry Potter candy. We needed a base for Disney Infinity, and I didn't want to resort to eBay. 2nd & Charles had one for a great price! The staff is very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend giving them a visit!

Trade in values and cash offers are a complete joke. The way they advertise their prices is nothing like how it actually is…I brought in an Atari and some decently sought after books in pristine condition and I was offered $4 cash and $7 store credit. The trade in and cash values I was offered were so low I found it offensive. Will never go to this store again. It took three hours of waiting just to be offered some bogus prices. Very disappointing.

This rating does not apply to the staff or the facility, it is for the pricing. Store itself is very nice looking , clean and impressive. I had no staff interactions. The section I was interested in is the used comic book area. Books that other 2nd & Charles that I've been to, and that the local comic stores in the area would have priced at $1 or $1.25 were at this store $4.95 and $5.95. This was their go-to price no matter the condition etc. Every 2nd & Charles I buy stacks and stacks, this one I bought none. Collectors won't be paying $5.95 for Dollar bin books. Especially mid range condition. That inventory won't be moving.

I was very happy that I decided to go to the Madison location. I've gone to the one in Hixson TN, I repeatedly leave without finding anything. This time I came out with a good size stack of movies. Great selection!

If you dont care about fair value and just need cash same day this place is alright but if you want a fair price for what you sell them id look somewhere else. Also be prepared to wait a while to hear your low offer.

Super disappointing experience at 2nd & Charles - I hope they can make it. Took about 40 books, some really great to exchange for cash or store credit, got $3.58 cash or $7.85 credit 😬 I should also mention I sell books on Amazon and at McKays in Chattanooga and have never had such a low exchange ever. I knew the value of those books before taking them.The book transfer process was also a bit complicated, a 3-bin allotment would take 3-4 hours and could only be atttended to by the donor and had to be picked up before closing at 7:00 pmAlso, their disorganization of the store is Uber frustrating, aisles are in alphabetical order, not subject or genre so you better know the author you are looking for, Koontz was in the same aisle as King and mixed up all between.The staff also seemed a bit stressed out. I have had wonderful experiences at McKays in Chattanooga my suggestion would be to have someone visit to see their efficiency, busy busy store and really fair exchange for your books. My guess is they are making a ton of money on the other items from Pokémon and notepads, travel pillows and the donated books are the least. Quite a bummer bc I think Huntsville would really benefit from this store if it were better managed.

Brought 3 baskets worth of trade ins. Waited half a day to hear back about my offer. When I arrived they told me that they could not take anything because one book had some mold from old water damage on the pages. They made me load my items back up and leave. Would not recommend. Next time, don’t spend half a day going through someone’s items just to turn down the whole trade because of light mold on one item.

For a “used” bookstore, they are very expensive. Recently published books cost more than Barnes and Noble and I couldn’t find any “used” newly published books that weren’t priced more than retail. Also, since there seems to be no where else in Huntsville that I can sell back my books, I took them to 2nd & Charles and got barely anything except pennies for brand new, perfect condition, Tik Tok popular books (which I know they will turn around and sell for full price). From now on, I’ll sell online. It’s sad because I came from a state that had many Half Price Books which were so much better than 2nd & Charles. Half Price Books beats them hands down, and knows how to treat book lovers, not cheat them like 2nd & Charles.

I like coming here for the books and my husband loves looking for new CDs.The kids area does need to be gone through and fixed up, it's not organized 😑. But all and all I enjoy coming here.

I Absolutely love this place. It's someplace my whole family and go and enjoy from ages 3 to 36. You never know what awesome stuff you might find inside and I always walk out satisfied with getting great deals and bags full of books, collectors items, and more.

Very cool store to shop in, very friendly staff. They are good with processing returns. They don't haggle on prices because they can't. But I really enjoy shopping here. A lot of very cool products to look at. They have books, cds, comics, guitars, video games, video game consoles, video game accessories, D&D dice sets, backpacks, hats, and other cool gifts. Check it out if you're looking for a good deal!

It’s a cool store and i enjoy browsing the different sections but i have to complain about the absolute joke that the buy back program is. I sent in about 7 books, half of which were non fiction hard covers, and one which was a 2022 fiction hardcover release by a popular author. The options they gave me were about $3 and some change for cash and $5.90 in store credit. I’ll stick to media sales on depop from now on. That’s just about robbery.

The store is very nice and has a huge selection of books, but their "used" books cost more than new books on Amazon. Their prices reminded me of BAM or B&N. I drove an hour to this store because their Facebook made it seem like it was a used bookstore with great deals and prices, but I was disappointed with their prices and walked out empty-handed.

There used to be shelves with used books for really decent pricing, some even as low as .50 ! Now they are all $4, $5 for the cheapest?? When did this happen? I was very disappointed last time I came here. Not sure if they're trying to compete with Clift Farms now or what , but the price has definitely gone up.

Went for their Black Friday sale that ended sunday. Was supposed to be by two video games get two free. But their selection of video games was a very small. The store seemed to be mostly books

2nd & Charles seems to have something for everyone. I have sold gently Used CD's here a couple of times. The staff has always been friendly and professional. Their buyback offers are way better than online buyers.

I went to the Madison alabama store. I needed five nights at Freddy's toys. I called then drove to store. I wasn't sure what they had.was what I needed..omg they had it all. ..thanks 2nd. Some kids are gonna have a great Xmas. I got all mine shopping done. Thanks again

A fantastic store that sells used and new books, some signed by the author. They have trade paperback comics, a large children's section, a vast amount of pop culture memorabilia games. Some of the things I personally perused were a large selection of pops, a lot of popular non big box store board games, and a large selection of records

Good selection of new and used books. I like their buy back program but have to say they are somewhat inconsistent in what they will take and what they won't. Refused one paperback I offered because it had some spine damage. When I started shopping for books I found literally dozens with way more spine damage than the book I offered. Otherwise it's a good place to shop for your reading favorites.

Incredible selection of Funko, nice vinyl section, loads of various comics... Great place to go browse and see what strikes your fancy. Cool new little section of "blind date with a book" options. Bring a reusable bag though - we bought an armload of stuff both times we've been here and didn't get offered bags either time which is kind of a pain when juggling multiple books and figurines.

Also, the penny per page promotion was so good- but we found plenty of well priced, perfect quality used books that we got without the promotion too!

One of my favorite places! They have such a great variety and I always find things I want. They even have a free bin out front where people can put books for others to enjoy. Love the Harry Potter merchandise selection!
