The staff was so friendly and amazing, I can’t thank them enough! My boyfriend brought me by on my birthday to look for a kitten to keep me company while I work from home. We fell in love with one of their adult cats who looked like she needed a nice home. She’s been with us for about 4 months now and this little grey tabby has us wrapped around her little paw. They have a great program that waives fees for veterans looking to bring home sweet shelter pets! Her fees were waived so she was basically free but you know what they say, money doesn't buy happiness 😉

Like most shelters, ours has many challenges. But they seem to really care about these displaced animals. I was told that as soon as the kind lady, whose son had rescued my dog, turned him in, he was recognized. I had him back before they closed for the day. His brother missed him terribly and they've been next to each other since reuniting. Thank you to the family who cared for Buddy. Thank you to the HAS staff whose diligence returned my furbaby to his brother and me.

We adopted our German Shepherd/Malinois cross Max (our and our vet's best guess as to his lineage, Max still refuses to divulge his family ties) at Huntsville Animal Services in January of 2020. Little did we know that we were on the cusp of a pandemic that would, among other things, alter everyone's relationship to the outside world. In the midst of the isolation and uncertainty, Max gave us much to do and talk about. His funny quirks made us laugh every day and his issues...well, let's just say his issues gave us a great deal of motivation to seek out expert advice and learn to apply it. We've learned so much about dogs and how to work with them and we will always be grateful to HAS for giving us the opportunity. I appreciate the staff and volunteers at HAS for their dedication to giving the animals in their care the best possible life under the circumstances.

These cats and dogs are awesome and deserve a caring, loving, devoted home. All that love and devotion will be returned 100 fold!! The staff will help you visit with all the pets in which you are interested to ensure a perfect fit for your family.

I rescued my girl almost 2 years ago & she is my absolute best friend. The BEST dogs come from the shelter, I swear. I came back this week to play with some of the puppies up there & what a night and day difference from even 2 years ago. All the dogs get warm blankets, cots, raw hides, treats & toys. They've even done a meet & greet area outside. They are really trying everything they can to make these pups less scared, more comfortable, more interactive & adoptable. Staff was friendly, even more knowledgeable on their personalities or background than what I experienced in the past. They've done amazing to improve. You cannot go wrong with a small fee to get a best friend with all shots, vaccs, spay/neuter included plus they'll give you a small bag of food to start.Photos:Day 1 home from HAS2 Years later- a happy girl

My old hound went to the rainbow bridge a few weeks ago. The facility is clean and I can stop by anytime to love on some doggies. I will be back for "therapy" again and help socialize some great sweet souls.

A staff member was having some kind of personal issue he felt was appropriate to passive aggressively express, a bit rude. I mentioned I was looking for a job, because I thought it would be neat to work with animals, maybe there, and that seemed to raise a big red flag when it came to adopting the puppy I was going to get. The puppy was twice as much as the first lady said it would be, after I filled out the paperwork and was at the counter, which was irritating. I ended up not buying the dog mainly because of how the staff was. Kinda wish I would have bought it anyway as I live alone, with no pets, and my house can feel kinda lonely and sad. Cute animals however in need of homes. I might go back for a pet, just kinda got turned off by the place. 9 weeks is a little early for a neuter anyway I felt, but I don't know.

what a sad excuse of a shelter. me and my friend saw a dog get left on the side of the road, and we grabbed it and immediately took it to the this shelter due to it being the only one open. when we got to the shelter we were told they wouldn’t take the dog and it was our responsibility now because we picked it up. what did they want us to do leave the poor dog on the road?!? after saying we were taking him to the police they immediately tried to say it was our dog WHICH IT WAS NOT, and then said the police wouldn’t help us and wouldn’t take the dog. thankfully the police did take the dog, and he’s now in good hands.

110% would recommend! The staff and facility are amazing. The dogs (can’t speak for cats) are very reasonably priced, loved and well taken care of by staff. We’ve been adopting and fostering from HAS since we moved here last year.

I cannot speak more highly of the staff. We brought in a lost dog and they received her with big hearts. If you have found a dog, you can be sure they will take good care of them. If this is your sweet dog, please find her with the Huntsville Animal Shelter.

We lost our baby to old age, so we decided to rescue a baby, The staff was amazing, answering all of our questions, and going above and beyond to help us, our baby picked us! We took Wilson home and have been in love every since, We decided Wilson needed a sibling/ playmate, and went back a week or so later...in the same spot Wilson was in, our next baby Manny picked us! We are all in love, and a very happy family...just look at these fellas ❤️

We adopted the sweetest little girl. Wish we knew what her life before was like. She is so gentle and mine very well, she had to have had a home. But she is heartworm positive, some skin issues and sores (from fleas) and has had a litter recently. We got her for$0 but would have paid an adoption fee. She is now loved and will never have to worry about anything again.

Love the work of the Huntsville animal shelter! They helped my dad get the most loving mama cat imaginable! She gave him lots of love, and he returned it! Thank you all for the work you’re doing at the shelter.

I was looking for a cat. The one I was interested in was gone when I got there (thank goodness). So I looked around and found the sweetest, shyest baby I could have hoped for. She was well taken care of, had already been fixed, and is in great health. I am overwhelmingly happy. The process only took about 20 minutes and didn't cost me anything because of the specials they were running, and I am a disabled veteran. I would definitely recommend them to everyone!

Hard Knocks Rescue & Training, Inc. works closely with Huntsville Animal Services. Most of the dogs pulled into our rescue come from this facility. Three personal foster fails were saved because of their hard working services.Every Wednesday, my co-owner/trainer (whom also has personal foster fails from HAS) and I assess the “underdogs” at the shelter. The staff is constantly pouring their souls into the never ending work of saving and caring for homeless pets. They have taken our observations into heavy considerations and followed through with recommendations we have given. HAS has contacted HKRTinc. in efforts to save some of these misunderstood, abused and/or neglected characters from euthanasia, whereas most other shelters wouldn’t have bothered.HAS is clean, considerate of the animals, provides vetting, resources for low cost vetting to the community and works closely with local rescue groups. With quality of life in mind, they genuinely try their best to save the lives of these unwanted souls. HAS is not given enough credit, in my opinion. Please view the animals at Huntsville Animal Services or local rescue organizations and consider adopting, before purchasing an animal. Many times, the shelter will waive adoption fees or sponsorship provided. HKRTinc. often provides discounted or free services for select dogs at HAS.

I chose a very sweet and chill dog named Parker. The Huntsville Animal Shelters staff we’re all nice and informative about how the dog may behave and honest about health. I liked the atmosphere! However, my dog Parker was neutered without having a bath. In previous experience with an animal shelter the dog was washed beforehand.

You can tell the people working there really care about the animals. They answered questions and gave me advice before I even went there. I ended up with the perfect dog for me.

We were there 3 hours playing with different dogs until my son found the perfect companion. They didn't complain and were very nice. Even took my mom back and got her one too.

Very helpful and informative! Sadly we couldn't keep raider due to our complex not willing to work with us on breed but he found a good home and hopefully we can find another fur baby down the road that needs a home!

Went in with my 3 and 6 year old girls to get a puppy. The layout was really cool. Basically self service. There were pens outside or rooms inside that you could get to know the animals in a more private setting. The staff were very knowledgeable about the dogs and were very helpful in letting us know which ones would be suitable for a home with kids and other animals. Ended up with an awesome 2 month old lab/pit that we named Maeby.
