Picked up Hobbs, from their. It was my daughter's early Christmas present. The staff there was awesome. Hobbs is 4 months old very easy to potty train. Hobbs and my Rottweiler play in the backyard all day long. (The odd couple) He is a great addition to our familyThank You Greater Huntsville Humane Society

This Review is long overdue. One year ago today, I met and adopted my dog Roxie (aka Sally Kate). I had no idea just how much of a perfect companion she was for me. I would challenge anyone to visit a Shelter first. The love and joy a rescue can bring to your life is like no other. I found a ādiamond in the roughā, when I saw her picture and adopted her. Iāll always be grateful to Greater HSV Humane Society for this cherub.

Hmm. Told the CEO was the foster and would be hand picking the owner of the dog; no meet and greets allowed. Tons of room for bias. Also, speaks volumes about their CEO and which dogs he himself is āwillingā to foster while others are boarded. Animal lovers beware.

I had a negative experience adopting a cat from GHHS. First thing is the adoption system they have is flawed and a bit cruel. When you apply online for a cat, they can take days to approve your background. A bit frustrating but I get it. The problem is, if you don't pick up the cat as soon as possible once they approve your application, another person can come with an approved application right after you and get the cat. This makes it really stressful to wait days to know if you can even get the cat and then randomly getting a called mid day saying, hey come get this cat now or someone else can take it. This feels unfair that if I was busy the next day, someone could get the cat even though I applied first.Second, and more pressing matter, there is a lot of miscommunication when it comes to the health of their animals. We were told that the cat we wanted to adopt is getting over a contagious virus and that she should be done with her meds. We were given the cat and sent home. she looked bad but they told us she was fine and that she was getting over it. I took her home to our other cats and called again to see if I could get more information since she was clearly sick. They then tell us that they have medication for her that we could pick up if we really wanted to. So we did. We had a scheduled appointment with a vet 3 days later through the GHHS to get her spayed. The vet says she is very sick with a high fever. The GHHS tells the vet on the phone that they never treated her for this virus when they told us they did. So they sent us home with a cat who was contagiously sick knowing we had other cats, lied to us about her still being sick, didn't tell us she needed medication until after we got home, and then told the vet that they never gave her meds for something she was sick with for at least a couple days under their care. This is awful and I'm so glad my other cats didn't get sick too. Thanks to us, she is feeling better and was able to be spayed. I will never get another cat from GHHS again. (The vet they are contracted with was awesome, 5 stars to them)

Heads up, a few of the reviews here seem to be confusing the city shelter (Huntsville Animal Services, not no-kill) with this no-kill, nonprofit humane society. I go all the time and the staff are friendly and understandably busy. It is always clean and they take some of the worst cases. I have seen pets other than dogs and cats on their website too. I know from the news they donate a ton of food to the community. So grateful to have them in Alabamaāwe need more shelters like this.

I have had the most amazing experience here at Greater Huntsville Humane Society. I've been looking for a dog for a while and went to visit Greater Huntsville Humane Society over Christmas break, and they took their time to help me find the perfect match! I live in Virginia, but they still took their time to talk to me about the process it takes to adopt. Today, on 2/5/22 I took home the most perfect puppy! Their staff is very understanding, caring, energetic , and their customer service is outstanding. I would adopt all over again if I could!! Thank you to Greater Huntsville Humane Society, I have a best friend again!

The people are nice and more importantly, the staff really care about the animals. The animals are clean and well treated and cared for. I adopted a kitten. She was clean head to toe, had been recently spayed, and had all but o e shot, she was too young for. ( she had a voucher for that last shot when she was of age.) She was also micro-chipped. If you don't have a carrier with you one can be purchased for a few dollars. They also give you a few new toys to ease the trip home. A bag of food comes along too. The whole process shows a very loving caring staff.

We went on Saturday to adopt a cat. We were told we had to put in an application which we did. She looked at it and we were told they would call our vet Monday and were under the impression we could pick up our cat Monday. Monday came and went and no one called us back so on Tuesday I called and was told the manager was busy and would call me back, never called! They did reach out to my husband and was told the cat was being fixed and we could pick him up on Wednesday. I went to get him Wednesday and they had let someone else adopt him. This was totally their fault and the admitted it. The girl in the office with the black hair should be fired. She is rude and uninterested in seeing anyone adopt a pet. It is a shame that they poor mouth for money and gripe about the pet population and yet make it so difficult for people to adopt. I would not recommend going here, you will only get your heart broken.

They do a GREAT service, but..... I went to meet a cat I was considering for adoption. Paperwork was filled out, fee payed, then she was brought out in a carrier to take home. I should have spoken up, I didn't even get the chance to meet her, pet her, hold her first :(Too many prescious animals and not enough resources!! PLEASE VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME, DONATE $, FOOD, SUPPLIES, whatever you can to help this organization!!!

based off of my experience today that the woman is probably the most disrespectful person Iāve talked to over the phone. She loves to overtalk you and assume situations Im surprised that the woman even has a job the way her attitude is very sour wouldnāt recommend a person like this for customer service jobs would be better off working by herself

They really do care and love for your animals. They have a program where you can get dog or cat food for a month. You can go 9 times in a 2 year period. Up to 4 animals as long as they have been fixed. They saved my animals on more than one occasion and treats.

We adopted a 12 yo dachshund. It's my second animal from this shelter. They are easy to deal with and the facility has always been very clean.

Huntsville Animal Shelter is so much better, cleaner than this place. The shelter has much better boarding and the cost is MUCH cheaper or free.

Me and my wife went there looking to adopt a dog. We were greeted by a young man at the front desk who was rude and disinterested in helping us. Every question we had was responded to with a sign or a rolling of the eyes first before answering. We were told not to touch any of the puppies. He took us outside where the few dogs they had were in small enclosures with barely anything protecting them from the elements. The place looks like they should be reported for animal cruelty. We went to Huntsville animal shelter instead and the experience was 100 times better

Absolutely terrible idea to adopt a pet from here. They arenāt in any hurry to review your āapplicationā for your new pet. They make excuses for why they havenāt reviewed your application. If you are planning to surprise someone with a pet knowing they are a pet lover theyāll deny your application. Theyāll come up with some excuse and say itās against their policy to let you adopt the pet as a gift (even after youāve explained why itās a gift and that it will goto a loving family). The best part is on the application it even asks if youāre adopting as a companion or a gift. Do not go here, they donāt want pets to be adopted. Absolutely awful experience.Oh and the short chubby girl in there is rude.

They give out free food on the 2nd Wednesday and last Saturday of the month if you qualify financially. They want to help those that are struggling financially but still want pets šš©šāā¬š. I think that's great!!! You can get food for up to 4 pets.

Staff is not very friendly. When we walked in and signed up to see the animals, they acted like we were bothering their screen time. Facility is nasty and not very well taken care of. Not alot of animals to adopt, which I guess is a good thing??

Filled out an application to adopt Roxie the pit bull. Both of my roommates were just as excited to get her as I was after visiting her a couple times. I put in an application the Friday before last and still havenāt got a call. We called three days in a row after being told it would only take 24-48 hours and they told us each time the application hadnāt even been put through yet and that they would do it then. I just donāt understand how a humane society can beg for people to adopt these pets but when a loving family wants to take one in they put them through so much trouble .Doesnāt make any sense to me.

Nicole is EXTREMELY rude and hateful. Do not waste your time or money with these people. These poor animals deserve so much better.
